An attempt was made to examine the many factors which influenced the growth and development of Houston's Colt .45's Baseball organization. Among the factors analyzed were the attempts to organize and operate a community based franchise. The Houston Sports Association was born from these efforts. By combining a broad ownership with community funded facilities the organization hoped to provide a solid foundation from which a lucrative, civic source of pride would prevail. This study examines the successes and failures of the organization in both the front office and on the playing field. Examination of the sources indicates that the organization, although well founded, experienced an alienation from within.
