Polarized Positron Source with a Compton Multiple Interaction Point Line

This is essentially due to the high luminosity required, orders of magnitude higher than existing ones. In addition,polarization of the positron beam rather expands the physics research potential of the machine by increasing the precision of the measurements and enhancing certain types of interactions. In this framework, the Compton sources for polarized positron production are taken into account where the high energy gamma rays are produced by the Compton scattering and subsequently converted in the polarized electron-positron pairs in a target. The Compton multiple IPs line is proposed as one of the solutions to increase the number of captured positrons. This allows a significant increase in the emitted gamma ray flux impinging on the target. The gamma ray production with the Compton multiple IPs line is simulated and used for polarized positron generation. Later, a capture section based on an adiabatic matching device followed by a pre-injector linac is simulated to capture and accelerate the positron beam. The results obtained are presented and discussed
ERL Scheme for Compton Polarised Positron Sources
International audienceOne of the main challenges for the future linear colliders projects (ILC and CLIC) is to design an efficient positron source taking into account the constraints imposed by the target heating. At present, different schemes have been analysed to produce high energy gammas and to convert them in an amorphous target. One of them considers the possibility to boost the energy of the backscattered photons of a laser pulse by Compton effect. This method is very attractive since the source is independent from the main Linac and since the photon helicity is conserved in Compton scattering and subsequently transferred to the produced pairs. This allows the physics experiments disposing of both positron and electron polarised sources. Different schemes have been proposed to provide the electron beam for the Compton collisions. taking into account the constraint imposed by the low value of the Thomson cross section. One of the explored possibilities is to design an ERL with relatively low repetition frequency, high charge per pulse and then to stack the produced positrons in an accumulation ring. Different considerations on this scheme will be illustrated and the main constraints discussed. MO6RFP06
Development of an intense positron source using a crystal--amorphous hybrid target for linear colliders
In a conventional positron source driven by a few GeV electron beam, a high
amount of heat is loaded into a positron converter target to generate intense
positrons required by linear colliders, and which would eventually damage the
converter target. A hybrid target, composed of a single crystal target as a
radiator of intense gamma--rays, and an amorphous converter target placed
downstream of the crystal, was proposed as a scheme which could overcome the
problem.This paper describes the development of an intense positron source with
the hybrid target. A series of experiments on positron generation with the
hybrid target has been carried out with a 8--GeV electron beam at the KEKB
linac. We observed that positron yield from the hybrid target increased when
the incident electron beam was aligned to the crystal axis and exceeded the one
from the conventional target with the converter target of the same thickness,
when its thickness is less than about 2 radiation length. The measurements in
the temperature rise of the amorphous converter target was successfully carried
out by use of thermocouples. These results lead to establishment to the
evaluation of the hybrid target as an intense positron source.Comment: 17pages, 10figure
Positron Production and Capture based on Low Energy Electrons for SuperB
TUPEB057International audienceProviding a high quality and sufficient high current positron beam for the ultra high luminosity B-factory SuperB is a major goal. In this paper a proposition for positrons production and capture scheme based on low energy electrons up to1 GeV is presented. For this technique, several types of flux concentrator used to capture the positrons are being studied. The following accelerating section bringing the positrons up to 280 MeV and the total yield for L-band and S-band type accelerators are given. Also the result of the benchmark between ASTRA and a LAL code based on Geant4 toolkit simulation is discussed
A positron source using an axially oriented crystal associated to a granular amorphous converter
Submitted to Chinese Physics CA non conventional positron source using the intense γ radiation from an axially oriented monocrystal which materialize into e+e- pairs in a granular amorphous converter is described. The enhancement of photon radiation by multi-GeV electrons crossing a tungsten crystal along its axis is reported. The resulting enhancement of pair production in an amorphous converter placed 2 meters downstream, is also reported. Sweeping off the charged particles from the crystal by a bending magnet upstream of the converter allows a significant reduction of the deposited energy density. Substituting a granular target made of small spheres to the usual compact one, makes easier the energy dissipation. The deposited energy and corresponding heating are analyzed and solutions for cooling are proposed. The configurations studied here for this kind of positron source allow its consideration for unpolarized positrons for the ILC

The reports collected in these proceedings have been presented in the third
French-Ukrainian workshop on the instrumentation developments for high-energy
physics held at LAL, Orsay on October 15-16. The workshop was conducted in the
scope of the IDEATE International Associated Laboratory (LIA). Joint
developments between French and Ukrainian laboratories and universities as well
as new proposals have been discussed. The main topics of the papers presented
in the Proceedings are developments for accelerator and beam monitoring,
detector developments, joint developments for large-scale high-energy and

Growth hormone secretory in healthy aged women and men of Tunisian population
With aging, men and women experience multiple hormonal changes, and in particular the activity of the growth hormone (GH)/insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) axis. This perturbation may be involved inaggravations of numerous abnormalities. In 64 healthy elderly, we determined the concentrations of GH in both sexes and its correlation with thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), the descriptive data, BMI,electrolytic assessment and some biochemical parameters. Collected data suggest that there was an age-dependent decrease in GH secretion. For TSH, there was a slight increase. The simple regressionanalysis revealed non-significant direct relation between these two hormones. We also found that BMI values were inversely related to the serum concentrations of these hormones. For the lipid metabolism,the positively correlated relation only exists between GH and total-cholesterol, on one hand, and between GH and LDL-cholesterol, on the other. For the other parameters such as glucose and triglycerides as well as HDL-cholesterol, this relation does not exist. For the BMI, this index shows a positively correlated relation with glucose and triglycerides. The electrolytic assessment shows that inmen, phosphorus was positively related to GH. In women, calcium and sodium were positively related to GH. Aging was found to be associated with decreased morning serum GH levels and slightly increased TSH levels in healthy elderly Tunisian population. Reduction of the GH-IGF-I axis in the elderly has important clinical implications. Indeed, this deficiency in GH could contribute to the decline of various functions associated with normal aging
The CLIC Positron Sources Based on Compton Schemes
International audienceThe CLIC polarized positron source is based on a positron production scheme in which polarized photons are produced by Compton process. Compton backscattering happens in a so-called "Compton ring" where an electron beam of 1.06 GeV interacts with a powerful laser beam amplified in an optical resonator. The circularly-polarized gamma rays are sent on to a target, producing pairs of longitudinally polarized electrons and positrons. An Adiabatic Matching Device maximizes the capture of the positrons. A normal-conducting 2 GHz Linac accelerates the beam up to 2.424 GeV before injection into the Pre-Damping Ring (PDR). The nominal CLIC bunch population is 4.4x10**9 particles per bunch. Since the photon flux coming out from a "Compton ring" is not sufficient to obtain the requested charge, a stacking process is required in the PDR. Another option is to use a "Compton Energy Recovery Linac" where a quasi-continual stacking in the PDR could be achieved. A third option is to use a "Compton Linac" which would not require stacking. We describe the overall scheme as well as advantages and constraints of the three different options
Jasmonate promotes auxin-induced adventitious rooting in dark-grown Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings and stem thin cell layers by a cross-talk with ethylene signalling and a modulation of xylogenesis
Background: Adventitious roots (ARs) are often necessary for plant survival, and essential for successful micropropagation. In Arabidopsis thaliana dark-grown seedlings AR-formation occurs from the hypocotyl and is enhanced by application of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) combined with kinetin (Kin). The same IBA + Kin-treatment induces AR-formation in thin cell layers (TCLs). Auxin is the main inducer of AR-formation and xylogenesis in numerous species and experimental systems. Xylogenesis is competitive to AR-formation in Arabidopsis hypocotyls and TCLs. Jasmonates (JAs) negatively affect AR-formation in de-etiolated Arabidopsis seedlings, but positively affect both AR-formation and xylogenesis in tobacco dark-grown IBA + Kin TCLs. In Arabidopsis the interplay between JAs and auxin in AR-formation vs xylogenesis needs investigation. In de-etiolated Arabidopsis seedlings, the Auxin Response Factors ARF6 and ARF8 positively regulate AR-formation and ARF17 negatively affects the process, but their role in xylogenesis is unknown. The cross-talk between auxin and ethylene (ET) is also important for AR-formation and xylogenesis, occurring through EIN3/EIL1 signalling pathway. EIN3/EIL1 is the direct link for JA and ET-signalling. The research investigated JA role on AR-formation and xylogenesis in Arabidopsis dark-grown seedlings and TCLs, and the relationship with ET and auxin. The JA-donor methyl-jasmonate (MeJA), and/or the ET precursor 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid were applied, and the response of mutants in JA-synthesis and -signalling, and ET-signalling investigated. Endogenous levels of auxin, JA and JA-related compounds, and ARF6, ARF8 and ARF17 expression were monitored. Results: MeJA, at 0.01 μM, enhances AR-formation, when combined with IBA + Kin, and the response of the early-JA-biosynthesis mutant dde2–2 and the JA-signalling mutant coi1–16 confirmed this result. JA levels early change during TCL-culture, and JA/JA-Ile is immunolocalized in AR-tips and xylogenic cells. The high AR-response of the late JA-biosynthesis mutant opr3 suggests a positive action also of 12-oxophytodienoic acid on AR-formation. The crosstalk between JA and ET-signalling by EIN3/EIL1 is critical for AR-formation, and involves a competitive modulation of xylogenesis. Xylogenesis is enhanced by a MeJA concentration repressing AR-formation, and is positively related to ARF17 expression. Conclusions: The JA concentration-dependent role on AR-formation and xylogenesis, and the interaction with ET opens the way to applications in the micropropagation of recalcitrant species
