Exponential dichotomies of evolution operators in Banach spaces
This paper considers three dichotomy concepts (exponential dichotomy, uniform
exponential dichotomy and strong exponential dichotomy) in the general context
of non-invertible evolution operators in Banach spaces. Connections between
these concepts are illustrated. Using the notion of Green function, we give
necessary conditions and sufficient ones for strong exponential dichotomy. Some
illustrative examples are presented to prove that the converse of some
implication type theorems are not valid

Adaptive estimation in circular functional linear models
We consider the problem of estimating the slope parameter in circular
functional linear regression, where scalar responses Y1,...,Yn are modeled in
dependence of 1-periodic, second order stationary random functions X1,...,Xn.
We consider an orthogonal series estimator of the slope function, by replacing
the first m theoretical coefficients of its development in the trigonometric
basis by adequate estimators. Wepropose a model selection procedure for m in a
set of admissible values, by defining a contrast function minimized by our
estimator and a theoretical penalty function; this first step assumes the
degree of ill posedness to be known. Then we generalize the procedure to a
random set of admissible m's and a random penalty function. The resulting
estimator is completely data driven and reaches automatically what is known to
be the optimal minimax rate of convergence, in term of a general weighted
L2-risk. This means that we provide adaptive estimators of both the slope
function and its derivatives
Dichotomies with No Invariant Unstable Manifolds for Autonomous Equations
We analyze the existence of (no past) exponential dichotomies
for a well-posed autonomous differential equation (that generates a C0-semigroup {()}≥0). The novelty of our approach consists in the fact that we do not assume the T(t)-invariance of the unstable manifolds. Roughly
speaking, we prove that if the solution of the corresponding inhomogeneous difference equation belongs to any sequence space (on which the right shift is
an isometry) for every inhomogeneity from the same class of sequence spaces, then the continuous-time solutions of the autonomous homogeneous differential equation will exhibit a (no past) exponential dichotomic behavior. This approach has many advantages among which we emphasize on the facts that the aforementioned condition is very general (since the class of sequence spaces that we use includes almost all the known sequence spaces, as the classical ℓ spaces, sequence Orlicz spaces, etc.) and that from discrete-time conditions we get information about the continuous-time behavior of the solutions
Measurement of shower development and its Moli\`ere radius with a four-plane LumiCal test set-up
A prototype of a luminometer, designed for a future e+e- collider detector,
and consisting at present of a four-plane module, was tested in the CERN PS
accelerator T9 beam. The objective of this beam test was to demonstrate a
multi-plane tungsten/silicon operation, to study the development of the
electromagnetic shower and to compare it with MC simulations. The Moli\`ere
radius has been determined to be 24.0 +/- 0.6 (stat.) +/- 1.5 (syst.) mm using
a parametrization of the shower shape. Very good agreement was found between

Highlights from the Pierre Auger Observatory
The Pierre Auger Observatory is the world's largest cosmic ray observatory.
Our current exposure reaches nearly 40,000 km str and provides us with an
unprecedented quality data set. The performance and stability of the detectors
and their enhancements are described. Data analyses have led to a number of
major breakthroughs. Among these we discuss the energy spectrum and the
searches for large-scale anisotropies. We present analyses of our X
data and show how it can be interpreted in terms of mass composition. We also
describe some new analyses that extract mass sensitive parameters from the 100%
duty cycle SD data. A coherent interpretation of all these recent results opens
new directions. The consequences regarding the cosmic ray composition and the

Performance of fully instrumented detector planes of the forward calorimeter of a Linear Collider detector
Detector-plane prototypes of the very forward calorimetry of a future
detector at an e+e- collider have been built and their performance was measured
in an electron beam. The detector plane comprises silicon or GaAs pad sensors,
dedicated front-end and ADC ASICs, and an FPGA for data concentration.
Measurements of the signal-to-noise ratio and the response as a function of the
position of the sensor are presented. A deconvolution method is successfully
applied, and a comparison of the measured shower shape as a function of the
absorber depth with a Monte-Carlo simulation is given.Comment: 25 pages, 32 figures, revised version following comments from

Two special calorimeters are foreseen for the instrumentation of the very
forward region of an ILC or CLIC detector; a luminometer (LumiCal) designed to
measure the rate of low angle Bhabha scattering events with a precision better
than 10 at the ILC and 10 at CLIC, and a low polar-angle
calorimeter (BeamCal). The latter will be hit by a large amount of
beamstrahlung remnants. The intensity and the spatial shape of these
depositions will provide a fast luminosity estimate, as well as determination
of beam parameters. The sensors of this calorimeter must be radiation-hard.
Both devices will improve the e.m. hermeticity of the detector in the search
for new particles. Finely segmented and very compact electromagnetic
calorimeters will match these requirements. Due to the high occupancy, fast
front-end electronics will be needed. Monte Carlo studies were performed to
investigate the impact of beam-beam interactions and physics background
processes on the luminosity measurement, and of beamstrahlung on the
performance of BeamCal, as well as to optimise the design of both calorimeters.
Dedicated sensors, front-end and ADC ASICs have been designed for the ILC and
prototypes are available. Prototypes of sensor planes fully assembled with

RESEARCH REGARDING THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF "POPULATIA DE CLUJ " OF MELISSA OFFICINALIS L. CULTIVATED AT CLUJ-NAPOCA
In this paper there are presented several results regarding the chemical composition of the prime vegetal matter at "Populaţia de Cluj" of Melissa officinalis cultivated in Cluj-Napoca. The culture from which the samples were taken for analyze is ecological. There were achieved 3 extracts: 1. prime dry vegetal matter 10% in ethylic alcohol 35%; 2. prime dry vegetal matter 10% in propilenglicol: water 1:1 and 3. prime dry vegetal matter 10% in tap water with boiling for 10 minutes. Compared with watered extracts and (3) and alcoholic (1), propilengliceric extract (2) allows the obtained of a more concentrated bioactive compound from phenolic acids class, in flavonoids and chlorophylls.

Expected Performance of the ATLAS Experiment - Detector, Trigger and Physics
A detailed study is presented of the expected performance of the ATLAS
detector. The reconstruction of tracks, leptons, photons, missing energy and
jets is investigated, together with the performance of b-tagging and the
trigger. The physics potential for a variety of interesting physics processes,
within the Standard Model and beyond, is examined. The study comprises a series
of notes based on simulations of the detector and physics processes, with
particular emphasis given to the data expected from the first years of
operation of the LHC at CERN
