Relativistic Coupled-Cluster Theory of Atomic Parity Nonconservation: Application to 137^{137}Ba+^+

We report the result of our {\it ab initio} calculation of the 6s2S1/25d2D3/26s ^2S_{1/2} \to 5d ^2D_{3/2} parity nonconserving electric dipole transition amplitude in 137Ba+^{137}\text{Ba}^+ based on relativistic coupled-cluster theory. Considering single, double and partial triple excitations, we have achieved an accuracy of less than one percent. If the accuracy of our calculation can be matched by the proposed parity nonconservation experiment in Ba+^+ for the above transition, then the combination of the two results would provide an independent non accelerator test of the Standard Model of particle physics.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, Submitted to PR

    NS Fivebrane and Tachyon Condensation

We argue that a semi-infinite D6-brane ending on an NS5-brane can be obtained from the condensation of the tachyon on the unstable D9-brane of type IIA theory. The construction uses a combination of the descriptions of these branes as solitons of the worldvolume theory of the D9-brane. The NS5-brane, in particular, involves a gauge bundle which is operator valued, and hence is better thought of as a gerbe.Comment: 20 pages, harvma

A Society Based Research to Assess Adherence of Antiretroviral Therapy

Access Adherence to Antiretroviral Therapy. A community-based antiretroviral (ART) drugs adherence study was conducted in Kolkata, India beginning in January and concluding in March 2011. This study was designed to explore the level of adherence as well as factors influencing adherence to ART by those who are receiving treatment through a public health care delivery system. This health care system is implemented through the National AIDS Control Program in the state of West Bengal, India. The research findings showed a high degree of non-adherence, between 48-52%, among the ART recipients. The analysis highlights a number of key factors negatively influencing adherence including long waiting time at the ART center, distance from residence to ART Centre, travel related expenditure, and fear of being identified as HIV + to family members and neighbors. Some positive influences were identified in the data as well. If a person is a member of a positive people network there is a greater chance for adherence as well as if an individual self-identifies as positive to others. However, no single factor, rather a combination of several factors, proved to be responsible for influencing ART adherence among recipients. &nbsp

Escape rate from a metastable state weakly interacting with a heat bath driven by an external noise

Based on a system-reservoir model, where the reservoir is driven by an external stationary, Gaussian noise with arbitrary decaying correlation function, we study the escape rate from a metastable state in the energy diffusion regime. For the open system we derive the Fokker-Planck equation in the energy space and subsequently calculate the generalized non-Markovian escape rate from a metastable well in the energy diffusion domain. By considering the dynamics in a model cubic potential we show that the results obtained from numerical simulation are in good agreement with the theoretical prediction. It has been also shown numerically that the well known turnover feature can be restored from our model.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figure

Dynamics of a metastable state nonlinearly coupled to a heat bath driven by an external noise

Based on a system-reservoir model, where the system is nonlinearly coupled to a heat bath and the heat bath is modulated by an external stationary Gaussian noise, we derive the generalized Langevin equation with space dependent friction and multiplicative noise and construct the corresponding Fokker-Planck equation, valid for short correlation time, with space dependent diffusion coefficient to study the escape rate from a metastable state in the moderate to large damping regime. By considering the dynamics in a model cubic potential we analyze the result numerically which are in good agreement with the theoretical prediction. It has been shown numerically that the enhancement of rate is possible by properly tuning the correlation time of the external noise.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, Revtex4.
