Goldfishing by gauge theory
A new solvable many-body problem of goldfish type is identified and used to
revisit the connection among two different approaches to solvable dynamical
systems. An isochronous variant of this model is identified and investigated.
Alternative versions of these models are presented. The behavior of the
alternative isochronous model near its equilibrium configurations is
investigated, and a remarkable Diophantine result, as well as related
Diophantine conjectures, are thereby obtained.Comment: 22 page
Algorithms to solve the Sutherland model
We give a self-contained presentation and comparison of two different
algorithms to explicitly solve quantum many body models of indistinguishable
particles moving on a circle and interacting with two-body potentials of
-type. The first algorithm is due to Sutherland and well-known; the
second one is a limiting case of a novel algorithm to solve the elliptic
generalization of the Sutherland model. These two algorithms are different in
several details. We show that they are equivalent, i.e., they yield the same
solution and are equally simple.Comment: 15 pages, LaTe
Explicit solution of the (quantum) elliptic Calogero-Sutherland model
We derive explicit formulas for the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of the
elliptic Calogero-Sutherland model as infinite series, to all orders and for
arbitrary particle numbers and coupling parameters. The eigenfunctions obtained
provide an elliptic deformation of the Jack polynomials. We prove in certain
special cases that these series have a finite radius of convergence in the nome
of the elliptic functions, including the two particle (= Lam\'e) case for
non-integer coupling parameters.Comment: v1: 17 pages. The solution is given as series in q but only to low
order. v2: 30 pages. Results significantly extended. v3: 35 pages. Paper
completely revised: the results of v1 and v2 are extended to all order
Generalized local interactions in 1D: solutions of quantum many-body systems describing distinguishable particles
As is well-known, there exists a four parameter family of local interactions
in 1D. We interpret these parameters as coupling constants of delta-type
interactions which include different kinds of momentum dependent terms, and we
determine all cases leading to many-body systems of distinguishable particles
which are exactly solvable by the coordinate Bethe Ansatz. We find two such
families of systems, one with two independent coupling constants deforming the
well-known delta interaction model to non-identical particles, and the other
with a particular one-parameter combination of the delta- and (so-called)
delta-prime interaction. We also find that the model of non-identical particles
gives rise to a somewhat unusual solution of the Yang-Baxter relations. For the
other model we write down explicit formulas for all eigenfunctions.Comment: 23 pages v2: references adde
Gravitational Constant and Torsion
Riemann-Cartan space time is considered here. It has been shown that
when we link topological Nieh-Yan density with the gravitational constant then
we get Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian as a consequence.Comment: 8 page
Phase diagrams of the 2D t-t'-U Hubbard model from an extended mean field method
It is well-known from unrestricted Hartree-Fock computations that the 2D
Hubbard model does not have homogeneous mean field states in significant
regions of parameter space away from half filling. This is incompatible with
standard mean field theory. We present a simple extension of the mean field
method that avoids this problem. As in standard mean field theory, we restrict
Hartree-Fock theory to simple translation invariant states describing
antiferromagnetism (AF), ferromagnetism (F) and paramagnetism (P), but we use
an improved method to implement the doping constraint allowing us to detect
when a phase separated state is energetically preferred, e.g. AF and F
coexisting at the same time. We find that such mixed phases occur in
significant parts of the phase diagrams, making them much richer than the ones
from standard mean field theory. Our results for the 2D t-t'-U Hubbard model
demonstrate the importance of band structure effects.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
Lattice Gauge Theories and the Heisenberg Antiferromagnetic Chain
We study the strongly coupled 2-flavor lattice Schwinger model and the
SU(2)-color QCD_2. The strong coupling limit, even with its inherent
nonuniversality, makes accurate predictions of the spectrum of the continuum
models and provides an intuitive picture of the gauge theory vacuum. The
massive excitations of the gauge model are computable in terms of spin-spin
correlators of the quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 chain.Comment: Proceedings LATTICE99 (spin models), 3 page
SU(N) Antiferromagnets and Strongly Coupled QED: Effective Field Theory for Josephson Junctions Arrays
We review our analysis of the strong coupling of compact QED on a lattice
with staggered Fermions. We show that, for infinite coupling, compact QED is
exactly mapped in a quantum antiferromagnet. We discuss some aspects of this
correspondence relevant for effective field theories of Josephson junctions
arrays.Comment: 33 pages, latex,Proceedings of "Common Trends in Condensed Matter and

Instantons and the Ground State of the Massive Schwinger Model
We study the massive Schwinger model, quantum electrodynamics of massive,
Dirac fermions, in 1+1 dimensions; with space compactified to a circle. In the
limit that transitions to fermion--anti-fermion pairs can be neglected, we
study the full ground state. We focus on the effect of instantons which mediate
tunnelling transitions in the induced potential for the dynamical degree of
freedom in the gauge field.Comment: 17 pages, plain te
UV/IR duality in noncommutative quantum field theory
We review the construction of renormalizable noncommutative euclidean
phi(4)-theories based on the UV/IR duality covariant modification of the
standard field theory, and how the formalism can be extended to scalar field
theories defined on noncommutative Minkowski space.Comment: 12 pages; v2: minor corrections, note and references added;
