Discrete Modified Projection Methods for Urysohn Integral Equations with Green's Function Type Kernels
In the present paper we consider discrete versions of the modified projection
methods for solving a Urysohn integral equation with a kernel of the type of
Green's function. For a space of piecewise polynomials of degree
with respect to an uniform partition is chosen to be the
approximating space. We define a discrete orthogonal projection onto this space
and replace the Urysohn integral operator by a Nystr\"{o}m approximation. The
order of convergence which we obtain for the discrete version indicates the
choice of numerical quadrature which preserves the orders of convergence in the
continuous modified projection methods. Numerical results are given for a
specific example.Comment: This is the the same paper with the arXiv identifier 1904.07895, but

Overcomplete steerable pyramid filters and rotation invariance
A given (overcomplete) discrete oriented pyramid may be converted into a steerable pyramid by interpolation. We present a technique for deriving the optimal interpolation functions (otherwise called 'steering coefficients'). The proposed scheme is demonstrated on a computationally efficient oriented pyramid, which is a variation on the Burt and Adelson (1983) pyramid. We apply the generated steerable pyramid to orientation-invariant texture analysis in order to demonstrate its excellent rotational isotropy. High classification rates and precise rotation identification are demonstrated
Long term Ultra-Violet Variability of Seyfert galaxies
Flux variability is one of the defining characteristics of Seyfert galaxies,
a class of active galactic nuclei (AGN). Though these variations are observed
over a wide range of wavelengths, results on their flux variability
characteristics in the ultra-violet (UV) band are very limited. We present here
the long term UV flux variability characteristics of a sample of fourteen
Seyfert galaxies using data from the International Ultraviolet Explorer
acquired between 1978 and 1995. We found that all the sources showed flux
variations with no statistically significant difference in the amplitude of UV
flux variation between shorter and longer wavelengths. Also, the flux
variations between different near-UV (NUV, 1850 - 3300 A) and far-UV (FUV, 1150
- 2000 A) passbands in the rest frames of the objects are correlated with no
time lag. The data show indications of (i) a mild negative correlation of UV
variability with bolometric luminosity and (ii) weak positive correlation
between UV variability and black hole mass. At FUV, about 50% of the sources
show a strong correlation between spectral indices and flux variations with a
hardening when brightening behaviour, while for the remaining sources the
correlation is moderate. In NUV, the sources do show a harder when brighter
trend, however, the correlation is either weak or moderate.Comment: Accepted by Journal of Astrophysics and Astronom
Theoretical study of isolated dangling bonds, dangling bond wires and dangling bond clusters on H:Si(100)-(21) surface
We theoretically study the electronic band structure of isolated unpaired and
paired dangling bonds (DB), DB wires and DB clusters on H:Si(100)-(21)
surface using Extended H\"uckel Theory (EHT) and report their effect on the Si
band gap. An isolated unpaired DB introduces a near-midgap state, whereas a
paired DB leads to and states, similar to those introduced by an
unpassivated asymmetric dimer (AD) Si(100)-(21) surface. Such induced
states have very small dispersion due to their isolation from the other states,
which reside in conduction and valence band. On the other hand, the surface
state induced due to an unpaired DB wire in the direction along the dimer row
(referred to as ), has large dispersion due to the strong coupling
between the adjacent DBs, being 3.84 apart. However, in the direction
perpendicular to the dimer row (referred to as [110]), due to the reduced
coupling between the DBs being 7.68 apart, the dispersion in the surface
state is similar to that of an isolated unpaired DB. Apart from this, a paired
DB wire in direction introduces and states similar
to those of an AD surface and a paired DB wire in [110] direction exhibits
surface states similar to those of an isolated paired DB, as expected. Besides
this, we report the electronic structure of different DB clusters, which
exhibit states inside the band gap that can be interpreted as superpositions of
states due to unpaired and paired DBs.Comment: 7 pages, 10 figure, 1 tabl
Microwave induced synthesis of some fused thiazoloquinazoline derivatives under solvent free conditions using LiBr as a catalyst
Two rapid and efficient methods for the preparation off used thiazoloquinazoline derivatives by the reaction of chalcones with hydroxylamine, urea and hydrazine hydrate under solvent free condition and microwave exposure are reported. The aim of present work is to substitute toxic, dangerous, highly reactive chemicals with less reactive, less harmful but more selective building blocks which activate selective chemical reactions by proper catalysis and to replace substituted old technologies to new one characterized by the reduction of by-products and easy separation of products
Suppression of power-broadening in strong-coupling photoassociation in the presence of a Feshbach resonance
Photoassociation (PA) spectrum in the presence of a magnetic Feshbach
resonance is analyzed. Nonperturbative solution of the problem yields
analytical expressions for PA linewidth and shift which are applicable for
arbitrary PA laser intensity and magnetic field tuning of Feshbach Resonance.
We show that by tuning magnetic field close to Fano minimum, it is possible to
suppress power broadening at increased laser intensities. This occurs due to
quantum interference of PA transitions from unperturbed and perturbed
continuum. Line narrowing at high laser intensities is accompanied by large
spectral shifts. We briefly discuss important consequences of line narrowing in
cold collisions.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figure
Classical Spin Models with Broken Continuous Symmetry: Random Field Induced Order and Persistence of Spontaneous Magnetization
We consider a classical spin model, of two-dimensional spins, with continuous
symmetry, and investigate the effect of a symmetry breaking unidirectional
quenched disorder on the magnetization of the system. We work in the mean field
regime. We show, by numerical simulations and by perturbative calculations in
the low as well as in the high temperature limits, that although the continuous
symmetry of the magnetization is lost, the system still magnetizes, albeit with
a lower value as compared to the case without disorder. The critical
temperature at which the system starts magnetizing, also decreases with the
introduction of disorder. However, with the introduction of an additional
constant magnetic field, the component of magnetization in the direction that
is transverse to the disorder field increases with the introduction of the
quenched disorder. We discuss the same effects also for three-dimensional
spins.Comment: 12 pages, 12 figures, RevTeX
Cosmological constraints on R-parity violation from neutrino decay
If the neutrino mass is non-zero, as hinted by several experiments, then
R-parity-violating supersymmetric Yukawa couplings can drive a heavy neutrino
decay into lighter states. The heavy neutrino may either decay radiatively into
a lighter neutrino, or it may decay into three light neutrinos through a
Z-mediated penguin. For a given mass of the decaying neutrino, we calculate its
lifetime for the various modes, each mode requiring certain pairs of
R-parity-violating couplings be non-zero. We then check whether the calculated
lifetimes fall in zones allowed or excluded by cosmological requirements. For
the latter case, we derive stringent new constraints on the corresponding
products of R-parity-violating couplings for given values of the decaying
neutrino mass.Comment: 13 pages, Latex, uses axodraw.sty; version to appear in Physical
