Label-free proteomic methodology for the analysis of human kidney stone matrix composition.
Background: Kidney stone matrix protein composition is an important yet poorly understood aspect of nephrolithiasis. We hypothesized that this proteome is considerably more complex than previous reports have indicated and that comprehensive proteomic profiling of the kidney stone matrix may demonstrate relevant constitutive differences between stones. We have analyzed the matrices of two unique human calcium oxalate stones (CaOx-Ia and CaOx-Id) using a simple but effective chaotropic reducing solution for extraction/solubilization combined with label-free quantitative mass spectrometry to generate a comprehensive profile of their proteomes, including physicochemical and bioinformatic analysis.` Results: We identified and quantified 1,059 unique protein database entries in the two human kidney stone samples, revealing a more complex proteome than previously reported. Protein composition reflects a common range of proteins related to immune response, inflammation, injury, and tissue repair, along with a more diverse set of proteins unique to each stone. Conclusion: The use of a simple chaotropic reducing solution and moderate sonication for extraction and solubilization of kidney stone powders combined with label-free quantitative mass spectrometry has yielded the most comprehensive list to date of the proteins that constitute the human kidney stone proteome. This result is below the prediction of the Ellis-Jaffe sum rule by more than
two standard deviations. The singlet axial charge is found to be . In the Adler-Bardeen factorization scheme, is
required to bring in agreement with the Quark-Parton Model. A
combined analysis of all available proton and deuteron data confirms the

Measurement of the proton and deuteron structure functions, F2p and F2d, and of the ratio sigma(L)/sigma(T)
The muon-proton and muon-deuteron inclusive deep inelastic scattering cross
sections were measured in the kinematic range 0.002 < x < 0.60 and 0.5 < Q2 <
75 GeV2 at incident muon energies of 90, 120, 200 and 280 GeV. These results
are based on the full data set collected by the New Muon Collaboration,
including the data taken with a small angle trigger. The extracted values of
the structure functions F2p and F2d are in good agreement with those from other
experiments. The data cover a sufficient range of y to allow the determination
of the ratio of the longitudinally to transversely polarised virtual photon
absorption cross sections, R= sigma(L)/sigma(T), for 0.002 < x < 0.12 . The
values of R are compatible with a perturbative QCD prediction; they agree with
earlier measurements and extend to smaller x.Comment: In this replacement the erroneously quoted R values in tables 3-6 for
x>0.12, and R1990 values in tables 5-6 for all x, have been corrected, and
the cross sections in tables 3-4 have been adapted. Everything else,

Front-end electronics for the ALICE TPC-detector
The Front-End electronics for the Time Projection Chamber (TPC) for the ALICE experiment consists of 5x105 channels. A single readout channel is comprised of three basic units: a charge sensitive amplifier/shaper with a fast tail cancellation; a 10 bit 10 Msamples/sec low power ADC; a digital ASIC which contains the zero suppression circuit and a multiple-event buffer. Data from a number of channels (4096) are multiplexed into an optical link (DDL) by means of a local custom bus which can support a data throughput of 2 Mbyte/event at a trigger rate of 50 Hz. The construction of a prototype of this electronics is presented in this paper

We present a measurement of semi-inclusive spin asymmetries for positively
and negatively charged hadrons from deep inelastic scattering of polarised
muons on polarised protons and deuterons in the range 1
GeV. Compared to our previous publication on this subject, with the new
data the statistical errors have been reduced by nearly a factor of two.
From these asymmetries and our inclusive spin asymmetries we determine the
polarised quark distributions of valence quarks and non-strange sea quarks at
=10 GeV. The polarised valence quark distribution, , is positive and the polarisation increases with . The polarised
valence quark distribution, , is negative and the non-strange
sea distribution, , is consistent with zero over the measured

Large enhancement of deuteron polarization with frequency modulated microwaves
We report a large enhancement of 1.7 in deuteron polarization up to values of
0.6 due to frequency modulation of the polarizing microwaves in a two liters
polarized target using the method of dynamic nuclear polarization. This target
was used during a deep inelastic polarized muon-deuteron scattering experiment
at CERN. Measurements of the electron paramagnetic resonance absorption spectra
show that frequency modulation gives rise to additional microwave absorption in
the spectral wings. Although these results are not understood theoretically,
they may provide a useful testing ground for the deeper understanding of

Spin asymmetries A1 and structure functions g1 of the proton and the deuteron from polarized high energy muon scattering.

D. 1998;58(11): 112001.We present the final results of the spin asymmetries A(1) and the spin structure functions g(1) of the proton and the deuteron in the kinematic range 0.0008 < x < 0.7 and 0.2 < Q(2) < 100 GeV2. For the determination of A(1), in addition to the usual method which employs inclusive scattering events and includes a large radiative background at low x, we use a new method which minimizes the radiative background by selecting events with at least one hadron as well as a muon in the final state. We find that this hadron method gives smaller errors for x < 0.02, so it is combined with the usual method to provide the optimal set of results. [S0556-2821(98)07017-9]

By evoking the poem’s nature as a Kinderlied, the context of its first publication, and its relationship with Brecht’s play Die Gewehre der Frau Carrar, this article tentatively identifies the source of its final pointe in a famous passage of Aeschylus’ Seven against Thebes, thereby suggesting—on the basis of textual comparisons—an example of far-reaching, ideological Antikerezeption in Brecht’s oeuvre, working all the way down to his Kalendergeschichten and to his Antigone
