Statistical Exploration of Local Transmission Routes for African Swine Fever in Pigs in the Russian Federation, 2007–2014
Microwave photoresistance in a two-dimensional electron gas with separated Landau levels
Theories of microwave-induced resistance oscillations in high-mobility
two-dimensional electron gas predict that with decreasing oscillation order
or with increasing frequency the photoresistance maxima should appear
closer to the cyclotron resonance harmonics due to increased Landau level
separation. In this experimental study we demonstrate that while for a given
the peaks do move towards the harmonics with decreasing , there is
no corresponding movement with increasing for a given . These
findings show that the positions of the photoresistance maxima cannot be
directly linked to the Landau level separation challenging our current
understanding of the phenomenon
Approximate initial data for binary black holes
We construct approximate analytical solutions to the constraint equations of
general relativity for binary black holes of arbitrary mass ratio in
quasicircular orbit. We adopt the puncture method to solve the constraint
equations in the transverse-traceless decomposition and consider perturbations
of Schwarzschild black holes caused by boosts and the presence of a binary
companion. A superposition of these two perturbations then yields approximate,
but fully analytic binary black hole initial data that are accurate to first
order in the inverse of the binary separation and the square of the black

Higher gauge theory -- differential versus integral formulation
The term higher gauge theory refers to the generalization of gauge theory to
a theory of connections at two levels, essentially given by 1- and 2-forms. So
far, there have been two approaches to this subject. The differential picture
uses non-Abelian 1- and 2-forms in order to generalize the connection 1-form of
a conventional gauge theory to the next level. The integral picture makes use
of curves and surfaces labeled with elements of non-Abelian groups and
generalizes the formulation of gauge theory in terms of parallel transports. We
recall how to circumvent the classic no-go theorems in order to define
non-Abelian surface ordered products in the integral picture. We then derive
the differential picture from the integral formulation under the assumption
that the curve and surface labels depend smoothly on the position of the curves
and surfaces. We show that some aspects of the no-go theorems are still present
in the differential (but not in the integral) picture. This implies a
substantial structural difference between non-perturbative and perturbative
approaches to higher gauge theory. We finally demonstrate that higher gauge
theory provides a geometrical explanation for the extended topological symmetry

Investigations on alternative substances for control of apple scab - Results from Conidia germinating tests and experiments with plant extracts
The intention of this research project, which was supported within the "Bundesprogramm Ökologischer
Landbau", was to find alternatives for the control of Venturia inaequalis for the organic fruitgrower.
Beside the investigations on reducing the ascospore potential on fallen leaves, experiments
were conducted in laboratory, greenhouses and in orchard to test direct control of scab with different
plant extracts, concentrations and methods of extraction. Extracts from Inula viscosa, Quillaja
saponaria-bark, citrus-species (AGROMIL) and Saponaria officinalis revealed a distinct efficacy
against apple scab in greenhouse studies on apple seedlings. ELOT-VIS, CHITOPLANT, COMCAT,
MOOSEXTRAKT, SILIOPLANT und FZB 24 did not show sufficient efficacy with the application schedule
used for control of scab. Mixtures of Quillaja-saponine and sulphur reduced effectively apple scab
incidence. In an experiment concerning rain stability Citrus-extract and Quillaja-saponine showed a
lower efficacy against scab after a simulated rain of 5 mm. The screening of different supplements
to Citrus-extract as surfactants and adhesives revealed GREEMAX and BIOPLUSS as promising additives.
Both combinations showed an efficacy comparable to copperoxychloride corresponding to
400 g elementary copper per ha
Coulomb Oscillations in Antidots in the Integer and Fractional Quantum Hall Regimes
We report measurements of resistance oscillations in micron-scale antidots in
both the integer and fractional quantum Hall regimes. In the integer regime, we
conclude that oscillations are of the Coulomb type from the scaling of magnetic
field period with the number of edges bound to the antidot. Based on both
gate-voltage and field periods, we find at filling factor {\nu} = 2 a tunneling
charge of e and two charged edges. Generalizing this picture to the fractional
regime, we find (again, based on field and gate-voltage periods) at {\nu} = 2/3
a tunneling charge of (2/3)e and a single charged edge.Comment: related papers at http://marcuslab.harvard.ed
Multiphoton microwave photoresistance in a high-mobility two-dimensional electron gas
We report on experimental and theoretical studies of microwave-induced
resistance oscillations in a two-dimensional electron gas over a wide range of
microwave intensities. We observe a distinct crossover from linear to sublinear
power dependence of the oscillation amplitude and a concomitant narrowing of
the oscillation extrema. To explain our observations we propose a theory based
on the quantum kinetic equation at arbitrary microwave power. Taken together,
these findings demonstrate a crucial role of multiphoton processes at elevated
microwave intensities
