New results at 3PN via an effective field theory of gravity
NRGR, an Effective Field Theory approach to gravity, has emerged as a
powerful tool to systematically compute higher order corrections in the
Post-Newtonian expansion. Here we discuss in somehow more detail the recently
reported new results for the spin-spin gravitational potential at third
Post-Newtonian order.Comment: 4 pages, talk at the 11th Marcel Grossmann meeting, Berlin, july 200
The Tune of Love and the Nature(ness) of Spacetime
The black hole information paradox is among the most outstanding puzzles in
physics. I argue here there is yet another black hole quandary which, in light
of the recent direct detection of gravitational waves by Advanced LIGO, reveals
a new window to probe the nature of spacetime in the forthcoming era of
'precision gravity.'Comment: 10 pages. To appear in Fortsch. Phy
Calcium Niobate Ca(NbO3)2—A New Laser Host Crystal
Large single crystals of calcium niobate Ca(NbO3)2, grown by the zochralski technique, are transparent and can be doped with rare earth or transition metal ions. Laser action has been observed in calcium niobate doped with trivalent neodymium, holmium, praseodymium, erbium, and thulium
The Hyperfine Einstein-Infeld-Hoffmann Potential
We use recently developed effective field theory techniques to calculate the
third order post-Newtonian correction to the spin-spin potential between two
spinning objects. This correction represents the first contribution to the
spin-spin interaction due to the non-linear nature of general relativity and
will play an important role in forthcoming gravity wave experiments.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, RevTe
