Volkmar Sigusch entfaltet in diesem Buch eine kurzweilige und vielschichtige Entstehungs- und Entwicklungsgeschichte der Sexualwissenschaft zwischen der Mitte des 19. und dem Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts. Auf siebenhundert Seiten durchschreitet er eine ebenso umfangreiche wie lehrreiche "Ahnengalerie" der scientia sexualis – als Wissenschaftsgeschichte jedoch vermag diese Untersuchung nur bedingt zu überzeugen

Animal History as Body History: Four Suggestions from a Genealogical Perspective

Pursuing Animal History as Body History, this paper focuses neither on animals nor on humans, but rather on bodies and the different societal demands made on them. It rejects the simple attribution of a history and an actor- or even subject-status to humans and animals per se. Instead, the paper suggests a historical problematization of the processes that produce humans or animals as having a history and as being actors or even subjects. Against this background, I try to demonstrate the usefulness of distinguishing between a praxeological approach in a broad sense on the one hand and a genealogical perspective in a narrow sense on the other. I thus understand Animal History less as an expanded form of Cultural History, but much more as a special form of Social History, placing at the center of interest neither the nature/culture dichotomy nor the concept of life, but rather the concept of the social

Einführung

This introduction links the history of violence to the history of the body and the history of the self. It emphasizes therefore not the phenomenology and situations but the genealogy and relations of violence, the power of violence to create very different relations between very different people. Therefore, the introduction sets out how a history of violence not only contributes to the history of the state but also shows how violence generated new discourses and practices of the self as well. Within this kind of history of violence, the body is, thus, not seen as a static target or given tool but as a historical product and in its changing productivity within relations of violence. Against this background the aim of this introduction is to promote the analysis of violence beyond war and mass murder – especially between the 1960s and 1980s

Das "Reich der Sinne"? Pornographie, Philosophie und die Brutalisierung der Sexualität (Westdeutschland 1968-1988)

This article addresses a new kind of entanglement between visualized sexuality and sexualized violence within hard-core and especially soft-core pornography in the 1970s and 1980s. It reconstructs and contextualizes how sharply increasing violence against women within the pornography of this timeframe constituted a brutalization of sexuality. The article thereby analyzes what sort of concrete knowledge about violence practices, the imagined female body, and the propagated female self was offered by pornography around and after 1968. Against this background, it also tries to historicize and to better understand the feminist Anti-Pornography-Movement of the 1970s and 1980s, focusing on the harmed feelings of women who not only observed violence within pornography but experienced it themselves while observing it

Was ist von der »Sexuellen Revolution« geblieben? Die Beiträge dieses Bandes fragen nach dem Wandel der Sexualität im deutschsprachigen Raum seit den 1960er Jahren. Anhand von Konzepten wie der Politisierung, Therapeutisierung und Normalisierung der Sexualität sowie der Frage nach ihrer Emotionalisierung, Somatisierung und Ausrichtung am »partnerschaftlichen« Beziehungsideal wird der Erkenntniswert einer an Prozessen orientierten zeithistorischen Forschung sowie der Wissens- und der Körpergeschichte geprüft.
