Desempenho motor fino e funcionalidade em crianças com síndrome de Down
O objetivo do estudo foi comparar crianças com síndrome de Down (SD) e crianças típicas quanto ao desempenho motor fino, avaliado pela Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development - Third Edition (BSITD-III), e o desempenho em autocuidado segundo o Inventário Pediátrico de Avaliação de Incapacidade (PEDI); e investigar associação entre ambos os domínios. Participaram 12 crianças típicas e 12 crianças com SD, avaliadas na idade de 2 anos. As crianças com SD apresentaram desempenho motor fino e funcionalidade inferior às crianças típicas, possivelmente por dificuldades em desempenhar tarefas que exijam destreza e coordenação manual, como as que compõem a BSITD-III. Apesar disso, sua pontuação em autocuidado foi adequada para a faixa etária, possivelmente porque as habilidades funcionais exigidas nesse período, como retirar calçados/vestimenta, impõem menor demanda motora fina do que tarefas da BSITD-III. Esse fato pode ter contribuído para o bom desempenho funcional das crianças com SD, e para a ausência de associação entre os domínios. Fatores como os cuidados oferecidos à criança pelos cuidadores, bem como ambientes estimuladores provavelmente também contribuíram para os resultados
Effect of thickness of indirect restoration and distance from the light-curing unit tip on the hardness of a dual-cured resin cement
This study evaluated the Knoop hardness and polymerization depth of a dual-cured resin cement, light-activated at different distances through different thicknesses of composite resin. One bovine incisor was embedded in resin and its buccal surface was flattened. Dentin was covered with PVC film where a mold (0.8-mm-thick and 5 mm diameter) was filled with cement and covered with another PVC film. Light curing (40 s) was carried out through resin discs (2, 3, 4 or 5 mm) with a halogen light positioned 0, 1, 2 or 3 mm from the resin surface. After storage, specimens were sectioned for hardness measurements (top, center, and bottom). Data were subjected to split-plot ANOVA and Tukey's test (α=0.05). The increase in resin disc thickness decreased cement hardness. The increase in the distance of the light curing tip decreased hardness at the top region. Specimens showed the lowest hardness values at the bottom, and the highest at the center. 2 nd Brazilian Consensus on Chagas Disease, 2015
Abstract Chagas disease is a neglected chronic condition with a high burden of morbidity and mortality. It has considerable psychological, social, and economic impacts. The disease represents a significant public health issue in Brazil, with different regional patterns. This document presents the evidence that resulted in the Brazilian Consensus on Chagas Disease. The objective was to review and standardize strategies for diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and control of Chagas disease in the country, based on the available scientific evidence. The consensus is based on the articulation and strategic contribution of renowned Brazilian experts with knowledge and experience on various aspects of the disease. It is the result of a close collaboration between the Brazilian Society of Tropical Medicine and the Ministry of Health. It is hoped that this document will strengthen the development of integrated actions against Chagas disease in the country, focusing on epidemiology, management, comprehensive care (including families and communities), communication, information, education, and research

Correlation between clinical performance and degree of conversion of resin cements: a literature review
AbstractResin-based cements have been frequently employed in clinical practice to lute indirect restorations. However, there are numerous factors that may compromise the clinical performance of those cements. The aim of this literature review is to present and discuss some of the clinical factors that may affect the performance of current resin-based luting systems. Resin cements may have three different curing mechanisms: chemical curing, photo curing or a combination of both. Chemically cured systems are recommended to be used under opaque or thick restorations, due to the reduced access of the light. Photo-cured cements are mainly indicated for translucent veneers, due to the possibility of light transmission through the restoration. Dual-cured are more versatile systems and, theoretically, can be used in either situation, since the presence of both curing mechanisms might guarantee a high degree of conversion (DC) under every condition. However, it has been demonstrated that clinical procedures and characteristics of the materials may have many different implications in the DC of currently available resin cements, affecting their mechanical properties, bond strength to the substrate and the esthetic results of the restoration. Factors such as curing mechanism, choice of adhesive system, indirect restorative material and light-curing device may affect the degree of conversion of the cement and, therefore, have an effect on the clinical performance of resin-based cements. Capacitação de agentes comunitários de saúde na área de saúde auditiva infantil: retenção da informação recebida
OBJETIVO:verificar a retenção das informações sobre saúde auditiva infantil por agentes comunitários de saúde que participaram de um curso de capacitação.MÉTODOS:participaram do estudo 24 agentes comunitários de saúde que haviam sido capacitados por meio de um Cybertutor, sistema de ensino baseado na web. O conteúdo programático desta capacitação envolveu informações que versaram desde a prevenção à reabilitação da deficiência auditiva. Imediatamente após a capacitação, os agentes comunitários de saúde responderam um questionário de múltipla escolha contendo 20 questões, divididas em domínios (1: conceitos gerais; 2: tipo, prevenção e causas da deficiência auditiva; 3: técnicas de detecção e identificação da deficiência auditiva; 4: aspectos gerais da deficiência auditiva). Os agentes comunitários de saúde responderam novamente o questionário decorridos 15 meses da capacitação. O nível de retenção das informações foi analisado comparando o desempenho nos dois momentos por meio do teste de Wilcoxon e adotando-se nível de significância de 5%.RESULTADOS:houve uma redução significante (p=0,03) em percentual, do conhecimento geral dos agentes comunitários de saúde sobre saúde auditiva infantil (73,5±8,4/66,7±12,5). Na análise por domínios foi possível constatar uma piora nos domínios 1(76,4±14,7/58,3±22,5), 2 (72,9±30,3/64,6±19,4) e 3 (69,4±14,5/68,8±17,2), sendo significante para o domínio 1 (p=0,012). No que se refere ao domínio 4, observou-se discreta melhora (76,0±11,6/78,1±11,2).CONCLUSÃO:houve redução significante, em percentual, do conhecimento geral dos agentes comunitários de saúde sobre saúde auditiva infantil, demonstrando a importância da educação continuada para estes profissionais
