This article presents the result of research developed with the language of elderly residents at the Long Term Care Facility for the Elderly - ILPI in Vit ria da Conquista Bahia Brazil In response to the initial questions as to whether institutionalization affects the language of the elderly whether the re-signification of verbal by non-verbal speech occurs and whether silence as language is part of an alternative system of possible meaning for the elderly it was perceived that language in institutionalized long-lived individuals it reveals that in response to diversified processes of silencing they have instituted silence as a possibility of reframing and structuring of meaning We collected data through the filming and recording of the elderly in enunciative-discursive situations considering the uniqueness of each subject s history and their respective crossings as well as the condition of production of the narratives based on the concept of datafinding by Maria HadlerCoudry 1 aligned with notions relevant to Linguistics in the theoretical-methodological perspective of Discursive Neurolinguistics The work presents a major finding regarding silence as a language anchored in multidisciplinary concepts of Music Philosophy Psychoanalysis Discourse Analysis and Linguistics relevant to this work that deals with the value of silence it is not zero emptiness which leads us to interpret it as meaning Thus the silence permeating each sign expands and gives meaning it becomes the possible resource for the institutionalized subject re to elaborate desires and response

THE ROLE OF CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT IN DRIVING STUDENTS' MOTIVATION TO LEARN ENGLISH

This study aims to examine how classroom environment influence students’ motivation and comfort in learning at the Advanced Speaking class. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through open-ended questionnaires distributed to 14 participants by a Google Form. The responses were analyzed to identify key environmental factors that contribute to students’ motivation in language learning. The findings reveal that physical elements such as flexible seating arrangements, adequate lighting, proper ventilation, and the use of multimedia tools play a crucial role in creating a supportive and engaging learning atmosphere. Most respondents reported that a well-organized physical environment enhances their focus, participation, and overall comfort during speaking activities. Social interactions within the classroom, including group discussions and peer collaboration, were also found to significantly boost students’ confidence and willingness to speak. Furthermore, emotional support from both teachers and peers contributed to reducing anxiety and fostering a sense of acceptance. These emotional and psychological components were closely linked to an increase in both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Overall, the study concludes that a conducive classroom environment encompassing physical layout, social dynamics, and emotional support is essential in motivating students to participate actively in learning advanced speaking course. This current study highlights the need for educators and institutions to consider classroom environment as a strategic factor in designing effective language learning experiences. Future research is recommended to explore more targeted strategies for enhancing students motivation in language classrooms

Aim of the present work is to describe for the first time the measurement through a direct numerical simulation (D.N.S) of the response of a turbulent flow confined between two planar walls to an impulsive body force. The measuring technique is based on the input of a zero-mean white noise, whose spatio-temporal correlation with the turbulent flow field provides the required quantity. The interest of this research lies primarily in the context of control theory, where the average linear impulse response function is important to design a closed-loop control using the response as a model for the sistem. Furthermore the impulse response is interesting by itself for a dynamic analysis of anisotropic turbulence. The numerical simulation has been carried out using a computer code with a shared-and distributed-memory parallel computing. The code has been extended to introduce the body force and the calculation of the impulse response. Impulse response have been obtained both for laminar and turbulent flows and, for sake of completeness, also for the linearized equations. For a flow linearized about a laminar point of equilibrium, we obtained an excellent comparison with the results avaliable in literature. The numerical experiments described in this work must be considered as preliminary: in the turbulent case, the body force has been applied only at one distance from the wall ; for the same reason there is not an analysis of the effect of the Reynolds number
