Selective gathering and collection of communal waste as the task of a commune

    Get PDF
Most duties connected with waste management are the responsibility of communes which are also responsible for ensuring appropriate conditions for selective collection and gathering of communal waste. This obligation is fulfilled by most Polish communes, but the quantity of selectively collected waste does not exceed 6% of all collected community waste. Selective collection is a very important form of waste management, because it allows to recycle and limit the weight of waste dedicated for storage – such effects are needed urgently. The author suggests a way to increase the quantity of selectively collected waste: carefully segregate waste in places where it is created, selectively collect it and gather in such form. All activities resulting in mixing waste should be eliminated

The interacting binary V 393 Scorpii: another clue for Double Periodic Variables

We give a brief report on spectroscopic properties of V 393 Scorpii. H alfa emission and shape and radial velocity of He I 5875 are modulated with the long cycle. The long cycle is explained as a relaxation cycle in the circumprimary disc, that cumulates the mass transferred from the donor until certain instability produces disc depletion.Comment: 2 pages, 2 figures in encapsulated postscript format. The Araucaria Project. On the Tip of the Red Giant Branch distance determination to the Magellanic Clouds

We present a precise optical and near-infrared determination of the Tip of the Red Giant Branch (TRGB) brightness in the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds (respectively LMC and SMC). The commonly used calibrations of the absolute magnitude of the TRGB lead to an overestimation of the distance to the LMC and SMC in the K band, and an underestimation of the distance in the optical I band for both galaxies. Reported discrepancies are at the level of 0.2 mag, with respect to the very accurate distance determinations to both Clouds based on late-type eclipsing binaries. The differential distances between the LMC and SMC obtained in the J and K bands, and for the bolometric brightness are consistent with each other, and with the results obtained from eclipsing binaries and other distance indicators.Comment: accepted for publication in The Astronomical Journa
