The World Health Organization aims to stop the rise of diabetes by 2025, and diet is one of the most efficient non-pharmacological strategies used to prevent it. Resveratrol (RSV) is a natural compound with anti-diabetic properties, and incorporating it into bread is a suitable way to make it more accessible to consumers as it can be included as part of their daily diet. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of RSV-enriched bread in preventing early type 2 diabetes cardiomyopathy in vivo. Male Sprague Dawley rats (3 weeks old) were divided into four groups: controls with plain bread (CB) and RSV bread (CBR), and diabetics with plain bread (DB) and RSV bread (DBR). Type 2 diabetes was induced by adding fructose to the drinking water for two weeks followed by an injection of streptozotocin (STZ) (40 mg/kg). Then, plain bread and RSV bread (10 mg RSV/kg body weight) were included in the rats’ diet for four weeks. Cardiac function, anthropometric, and systemic biochemical parameters were monitored, as well as the histology of the heart and molecular markers of regeneration, metabolism, and oxidative stress. Data showed that an RSV bread diet decreased the polydipsia and body weight loss observed in the early stages of the disease. At the cardiac level, an RSV bread diet diminished fibrosis but did not counteract the dysfunction and metabolic changes seen in fructose-fed STZ-injected rats

In recent decades, fungi-derived naturally occurring quinazolines have emerged as potential drug candidates. Nevertheless, most studies are conducted for bioactivity assays, and little is known about their absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination (ADME) properties. To perform metabolic studies, the synthesis of the naturally occurring quinazolinone, fiscalin B (1), and its chloro derivative, 4-((1H-indol-3-yl)methyl)-8,10-dichloro-1-isobutyl-1,2-dihydro-6H-pyra-zino[2,1-b]quinazoline-3,6(4H)-dione (2), disclosed as an antibacterial agent, was performed in a gram scale using a microwave-assisted polycondensation reaction with 22% and 17% yields, respec-tively. The structure of the non-natural (+)-fiscalin B was established, for the first time, by X-ray crystallography as (1R,4S)-1, and the absolute configuration of the naturally occurring fiscalin B (- )-1 was confirmed by comparison of its calculated and experimental electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra as (1S,4R)-1. In vitro metabolic studies were monitored for this class of natural products for the first time by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). The metabolic characteristics of 1 and 2 in human liver microsomes indicated hydration and hydroxylation mass changes introduced to the parent drugs. This research was supported by national funds provided by FCT—Foundation for Science and Technology and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and COMPETE under the Strategic Funding of CIIMAR UIDB/04423/2020 (Group of Natural Products and Medicinal Chemistry-CIIMAR) and LAQV-REQUIMTE (UIDB/50006/2020) and the project PTDC/SAU-PUB/28736/2017 (Reference: POCI-01–0145-FEDER-028736), as well as CHIRALBIOACTIVE-PI-3RL-IINFACTS-2019. We report the discovery of NGTS-11 b (=TOI-1847 b), a transiting Saturn in a 35.46-day orbit around a mid K-type star (Teff=5050 K). We initially identified the system from a single-transit event in a TESS full-frame image light-curve. Following seventy-nine nights of photometric monitoring with an NGTS telescope, we observed a second full transit of NGTS-11 b approximately one year after the TESS single-transit event. The NGTS transit confirmed the parameters of the transit signal and restricted the orbital period to a set of 13 discrete periods. We combined our transit detections with precise radial velocity measurements to determine the true orbital period and measure the mass of the planet. We find NGTS-11 b has a radius of 0.817+0.028-0.032 RJR_J, a mass of 0.344+0.092-0.073 MJM_J, and an equilibrium temperature of just 435+34-32 K, making it one of the coolest known transiting gas giants. NGTS-11 b is the first exoplanet to be discovered after being initially identified as a TESS single-transit event, and its discovery highlights the power of intense photometric monitoring in recovering longer-period transiting exoplanets from single-transit events

By means of DFT calculations [B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p), GIAO], the properties of the three tautomers of 1:9,5:10-anthradipyrazole were analyzed and compared with Maspero's crystal structures and NMR results. The agreement is fairly good and in agreement with indazole tautomers. Besides, the aromaticity of these interesting five-membered ring systems was explored. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media New York.Peer Reviewe

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)We evaluated local inflammatory activity of oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes in rat experimental models of acute inflammation (paw edema and hyperalgesia) by analyzing their toxicity in non-mesoendothelial tissues. Subcutaneous injection of the nanotubes induced paw edema, that was maximal in the first 2 h after administration at 0.1 mg/kg (43.25 +/- 3.8 AUC) and 1 mg/kg (30.1 +/- 1.8 AUC) compared to saline (18.32 +/- 02.05 AUC). The histopathological analysis showed acute inflammation characterized by vasodilatation, edema formation, neutrophil infiltrate and tissue damage. The nanotubes also elicited hyperalgesic response, seen by the increase of animal paw withdrawal that was maximal in the first 3 hours. The data obtained at the 3rd h was: 75 +/- 9.3% (0.01 mg/kg), 58 +/- 8.3% (0.1 mg/kg) and 53 +/- 6.69% (1 mg/kg) in relation with saline (28 +/- 3.5%). In conclusion, the oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes elicit inflammatory and hyperalgesic effects associated to severe tissue damage in rats.13852765282Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Fundacao Cearense de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento Cientifico e Tecnologico (FUNCAP)Institutos Nacionais de Ciencia e Tecnologia (INCT): Instituto de NanoBioEstruturas and Simulacao NanoBioMolecular [NANO(BIO)SIMES] [15/2008]Materiais Complexos Funcionais [Inomat]PRONEX grant [FUNCAP 220100/11]Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Institutos Nacionais de Ciencia e Tecnologia (INCT): Instituto de NanoBioEstruturas and Simulacao NanoBioMolecular [NANO(BIO)SIMES] [15/2008]Materiais Complexos Funcionais [Inomat]PRONEX grant [FUNCAP 220100/11
