Experimental realization of the Yang-Baxter Equation via NMR interferometry
The Yang-Baxter equation is an important tool in theoretical physics, with
many applications in different domains that span from condensed matter to
string theory. Recently, the interest on the equation has increased due to its
connection to quantum information processing. It has been shown that the
Yang-Baxter equation is closely related to quantum entanglement and quantum
computation. Therefore, owing to the broad relevance of this equation, besides
theoretical studies, it also became significant to pursue its experimental
implementation. Here, we show an experimental realization of the Yang-Baxter
equation and verify its validity through a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)
interferometric setup. Our experiment was performed on a liquid state
Iodotrifluoroethylene sample which contains molecules with three qubits. We use
Controlled-transfer gates that allow us to build a pseudo-pure state from which
we are able to apply a quantum information protocol that implements the
Yang-Baxter equation.Comment: 10 pages and 6 figure
Critical and Tricritical Points for the Massless 2d Gross-Neveu Model Beyond Large N
Using optimized perturbation theory, we evaluate the effective potential for
the massless two dimensional Gross-Neveu model at finite temperature and
density containing corrections beyond the leading large-N contribution. For
large-N, our results exactly reproduce the well known 1/N leading order results
for the critical temperature, chemical potential and tricritical points. For
finite N, our critical values are smaller than the ones predicted by the
large-N approximation and seem to observe Landau's theorem for phase
transitions in one space dimension. New analytical results are presented for
the tricritical points that include 1/N corrections. The easiness with which
the calculations and renormalization are carried out allied to the seemingly
convergent optimized results displayed, in this particular application, show
the robustness of this method and allows us to obtain neat analytical
expressions for the critical as well as tricritical values beyond the results
currently known.Comment: 29 pages, 14 figure
Experimental Determination of Thermal Entanglement in Spin Clusters using Magnetic Susceptibility Measurements
The present work reports an experimental observation of thermal entanglement
in a clusterized spin chain formed in the compound NaCuSiO.
The presence of entanglement was investigated through two measured quantities,
an Entanglement Witness and the Entanglement of Formation, both derived from
the magnetic susceptibility. It was found that pairwise entanglement exists
below K. Tripartite entanglement was also observed below K. A theoretical study of entanglement evolution as a function of applied
field and temperature is also presented.Comment: Submited to Phys. Rev.

On the nonextensive character of some magnetic systems
During the past few years, nonextensive statistics has been successfully
applied to explain many different kinds of systems. Through these studies some
interpretations of the entropic parameter q, which has major role in this
statistics, in terms of physical quantities have been obtained. The aim of the
present work is to yield an overview of the applications of nonextensive
statistics to complex problems such as inhomogeneous magnetic systems.Comment: to appear in the Proceedings of the conference CTNEXT07, Complexity,

Novel types of anti-ecloud surfaces
In high power RF devices for space, secondary electron emission appears as
the main parameter governing the multipactor effect and as well as the e-cloud
in large accelerators. Critical experimental activities included development of
coatings with low secondary electron emission yield (SEY) for steel (large
accelerators) and aluminium (space applications). Coatings with surface
roughness of high aspect ratio producing the so-call secondary emission
suppression effect appear as the selected strategy. In this work a detailed
study of the SEY of these technological coatings and also the experimental
deposition methods (PVD and electrochemical) are presented. The coating-design
approach selected for new low SEY coatings include rough metals (Ag, Au, Al),
rough alloys (NEG), particulated and magnetized surfaces, and also graphene
like coatings. It was found that surface roughness also mitigate the SEY
deterioration due to aging processes.Comment: 4 pages, contribution to the Joint INFN-CERN-EuCARD-AccNet Workshop
