Organizational Commitment and Job Satisfaction: What Are the Potential Relationships?

This study compared two different structural models regarding the direct or mediation role satisfaction has in the prediction of commitment bond, in the context of a public and traditional Brazilian organization, the Military Police. A quantitative and qualitative combination of methods was used to measure relationships between variables and to contextualize the results found from 10,052 surveyed workers. We conducted interviews with six high command officers and a focus group comprised of seven members from the three highest organizational levels. Content analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used in the analysis process. Evidence was found that satisfaction with relationships is an antecedent of commitment, which mediates its relationships with other variables, such as work and personal characteristics. Understanding the organization's characteristics and the use of a substantial sample of its employees simultaneously allowed for testing complex structural models and investigating a labor segment that has been neglected by commitment research.Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Universidade de São Paulo FEAUNIFESPSciEL

Proposal and validation of a questionnaire to investigate risk behavior of drivers from Brazil and Portugal

Traffic accidents are among the leading causes of death around the world. The causes of its occurrence largely correspond to the human factor. With this, many studies are carried out to examine the main determinants underlying human behavior in traffic and more specifically, risk behaviors. The use of questionnaires to relate personality traits and other characteristics are widely used to investigate this type of behavior. This paper aims to present the steps performed during the development of a questionnaire to investigate risk behaviors, including qualitative and quantitative analyzes. Through pilot tests, it was possible to evaluate the comprehension of the questions as well as the reliability of the scale with the Cronbach's alpha test. At the end of all steps, the questionnaire reached satisfactory results that made it suitable for application to the final sample.Os acidentes de trânsito estão entre as principais causas de morte em todo o mundo. As causas de sua ocorrência correspondem na sua maior parte ao fator humano. Com isso, muitos estudos são realizados a título de compreender o comportamento humano no trânsito e mais especificamente, comportamentos de risco. Questionários relacionando traços de personalidade e outras características são amplamente utilizados a fim de investigar esse tipo de comportamento. Esse trabalho tem por objetivo apresentar as etapas realizadas durante o desenvolvimento de um questionário para investigação de comportamentos de risco, contemplando análises qualitativas e quantitativas. Através de testes pilotos, foi possível avaliar a compreensão das perguntas, bem como a confiabilidade da escala com o teste do alfa de Cronbach. 4D Chern-Simons and the pure spinor AdS5×S5AdS_5\times S^5 superstring

Four-dimensional Chern-Simons (4DCS) theory is useful for understanding integrable sigma-models and constructing new ones. In this paper, we show how to derive the complete pure spinor $AdS_5\times S^5$ superstring sigma-model from 4DCS theory with defects. The matter sector of this sigma model was previously derived by Costello and Yamazaki, and we propose here that the pure spinor ghosts come from gauge-fixing meromorphic transformations of 4DCS which lead to the usual pure spinor Lax connection including the ghost contribution.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure

Qualidade da carne de bovinos superprecoces terminados em confinamento.

Avaliou-se a qualidade da carne de 10 bovinos F1 Guzerá-Nelore e 10 F2 Pardo Suíço-Guzerá-Nelore, inteiros, e abatidos precocemente. Na avaliação da carne, foi utilizado o músculo Longissimus dorsi. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente ao acaso. Verificaram-se para F1 e F2, respectivamente, médias para umidade de 75,3 e 75,1, extrato etéreo de 1,4 e 1,5, proteína de 23,7 e 23,6 e cinzas de 1,04 e 1,06. Cor em L* de 28,9 e 30,3, médias para cor em a* de 22,6 e 23,4 e cor em b* de 15,3 15,4, força de cisalhamento de 3,4 e 3,5, perda de peso pelo descongelamento de 9,8 e 10,5 e perda pelo cozimento de 15,9 e 15,6. Não houve diferença estatística para nenhuma das variáveis analisadas entre os grupos genéticos

Um estudo observacional do filme Denise está Chamando à luz da teoria de ação de Chris Argyris e Donald Schön

Behavioral dynamics portrayed in the motion picture, "Denise Calls Up" by Hal Salwen (1955), were analyzed in relation to omission, indifference, surreptitious manipulation, merciful lies and unilateral control and protection. These attitudes are typical of the Opposite of Model I by Chris Argyris and Donald Schön (1995) and are difficult to identify, analyze and discuss in human interactions. Arguments were based on the Model, which was part of their Theory of Action (1977, 1996), and questioned how researchers and consultants could make mental models and modi operandi better known to others. An analysis of the film was also presented thereby contributing to the scientific literature in Brazil which is concerned with aiding groups and organizations to analyze their dynamics. The study was qualitative and observational, based upon indirect non-participative observation. The method used was discourse analysis related to the scenes that illustrate the theoretical propositions under study. Aspects of the Action Theory were succinctly contextualized from the point of view of the behavioral dynamics which permeated the human relations identified in the movie, to provide a theoretical foundation for the study.Este trabalho apresenta uma análise do mundo comportamental retratado no filme Denise está Chamando (Denise Calls Up), de Hal Salwen (1995), cujas características (omissão, distanciamento, manipulação subreptícia, mentiras piedosas, controle e proteção unilaterais) são típicas do Oposto ao Modelo I e delicadas para serem identificadas, analisadas e discutidas facilmente nas interações humanas. Esse modelo é oriundo da Teoria de Ação proposta por Chris Argyris e Donald Schön (1977, 1996), aqui utilizados como base de argumentação. Buscou-se, neste trabalho, responder à pergunta de como pesquisadores e consultores podem tornar conhecidos modelos mentais e seus modos de ação. Apresentou-se, ainda, uma perspectiva de análise fílmica, com vistas a contribuir para o incremento de um trabalho científico no Brasil que possa auxiliar grupos e organizações na análise de suas ações. O estudo caracteriza-se como qualitativo, observacional, com base em observação indireta e não-participante. Escolheu-se o método da análise de discurso, baseado em cenas elucidativas da proposição teórica estudada. A fundamentação teórica tentou contextualizar, de modo sucinto, os elementos da Teoria de Ação, identificando, com base no filme, o mundo comportamental que permeia as relações humanas

ANÁLISE FÍLMICA EM PESQUISAS EM ADMINISTRAÇÃO: SABENDO O PORQUÊ E COMO UTILIZÁ-LA

Despite many recent peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals, broad understanding of the production of observational studies using film analysis seems to be lacking. This article reviews the increasing use of film analysis as a qualitative tool in studies in the field of management studies, with particular attention paid to why and how to use it. Hence, this review addresses questions such as: What are these studies? What are the factors that should be considered for them to continue being produced? What are the possibilities of locus? How is scientific rigor contemplated? As a result, enhanced qualitative, descriptive, inductive, interpretive, and reflective understanding of its methodological aspects is expected. Its contribution can support researchers interested in producing observational studies in film analysis, paying attention to the rigor of this research approach, applied in the specific step by step of each study and considering the chosen locus and object of study. Qualitative Research.  Observational Studies.Apesar de muitas publicações recentes em revistas científicas, parece faltar um amplo entendimento da produção de estudos observacionais usando a análise fílmica. Este artigo revisa o uso crescente da análise fílmica como uma estratégia de pesquisa qualitativa no campo de estudos da administração, com atenção especial para o porquê e como utilizá-la. Assim, esta revisão inicia-se com questões como: O que são esses estudos? Quais são os fatores que devem ser considerados para que continuem sendo produzidos? Quais são as possibilidades de lócus? Como o rigor científico é contemplado? Como resultado, espera-se um melhor entendimento qualitativo, descritivo, indutivo, interpretativo e reflexivo de seus aspectos metodológicos. Sua contribuição pode apoiar pesquisadores interessados ​​em produzir estudos observacionais em análise fílmica, atentando para o rigor dessa abordagem de pesquisa, aplicada no passo a passo específico de cada estudo e considerando o lócus e objeto de estudo escolhidos.
