Utilitarian And Community Values In Mainstream And Alternative Health Care On Martha\u27s Vineyard

Problems endemic to Martha’s Vineyard’s health care system and community efforts to resolve them led to the this community study on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Such problems included Martha’s Vineyard’s sole hospital and nursing home’s declarations of bankruptcy in 1996, the fluctuation of quality of Vineyard health care organization relations with the community overall, the rate of uninsured that was two times that of Massachusetts overall, the Island’s isolation from mainland medical services, and its health care service scarcities. This ethnography focuses on utilitarian values to explain difficulties that Vineyarders experienced during their efforts to obtain health care and to improve access to health care. Efforts to promote access included the development of health care policies and the formation of mainland and local organization business networks and of local community networks (Wellever 2004:228, 229-230). Participant observation, structured interview (n=262) and archival data were used. Structured interviews were sought from Vineyarders who expressed an interest in health care. The Martha’s Vineyard Times Supplement (2006) list of property owners and their property values enabled interviews with Vineyarders of a wide range of property assessment values. Still others who had been employed by or had volunteered for a health care organization were found though recommendation, Vineyard media, and chance encounters. This dissertation uses content analysis of actions performed by individuals, organizations, and communities. Utilitarian values were used to explain such actions. The types of utilitarian values could be thought of as “existing” along a continuum of egoistic (individualistic) utilitarian values and collectivistic utilitarian values or along the further extremes of exploitive egoistic and altruistic collectivistic values. Though Martha’s Vineyard’s communities were diverse, Vineyarders tended to be united by their sense of community. They made efforts to protect their communities from those they believed held opposing definitions that could threaten their communities. Such threats led Vineyarders to strengthen their community ties and to form new communities. Arguably, the malleable, versatile and imprecise (Cohen 1985:18, 21) symbol, “community,” promoted Vineyarders’ social solidarity. Their belief in “community” promoted harmonious social relations because it enabled individuals to reach surface agreements (Cohen 1985:18, 109)

Kata kunci: Aplikasi Android, Arduino UNO (mikrokontroler ATmega328), Relay,Lampu rumah.ABSTRACKLimited power supply requires to conserve its use. One of the things that can bedone to save electricity is to use the house lights as needed. Open source operating system onandroid phones can be used to make the house light controller applications using theArduino UNO (Microcontroller ATmega328) and relay instead of a switch. Androidapplication is used as input commands to the circuit arduino UNO (microcontrollerATmega328) through media liaison Bluetooth module. Arduino UNO will respond to inputwith the output of a logic low (0V) and logic high (5V) via pins that have been determined, the pins are connected to the Relay module. Relay module is used instead of a switch that isconnected to the lamp house. When it gets input logic low (0V) the relay will be active andwill supply power to the light so that the light is on, and when it gets a high logic input (5V)relay will not be activated so that the flow of electricity to the lights and the lights will cut offthe dead. Keywords : Android Applications, Arduino UNO (microcontroller ATmega328), Relay,Lamp house.Banda Ace

Guidelines for DNA recombination and repair studies: Cellular assays of DNA repair pathways

    Get PDF
Understanding the plasticity of genomes has been greatly aided by assays for recombination, repair and mutagenesis. These assays have been developed in microbial systems that provide the advantages of genetic and molecular reporters that can readily be manipulated. Cellular assays comprise genetic, molecular, and cytological reporters. The assays are powerful tools but each comes with its particular advantages and limitations. Here the most commonly used assays are reviewed, discussed, and presented as the guidelines for future studies

Molecular Dynamics of Impurities in Solids.

Molecular reorientation of impurities in solids has been investigated using optical spectroscopic and dielectric relaxation techniques. Optical spectroscopy was used to monitor photoreorientation of PO(,2)('-) in KCl over the temperature range 4.2 to 50K. Comparison of the experimental data to a kinetic model for thermal and photoreorientation yields potential energy barriers of 325 and 783cm('-1) in the ('3)B(,1) excited and the ('1)A(,1) ground states respectively. It has been shown that photoreorientation may occur during vibrational relaxation in the ('3)B(,1) and /or in the ('1)A(,1) state. A potential energy surface for the motion of PO(,2)('-) in the chloride vacancy has been calculated based on atom-atom interactions. The equilibrium orientation of PO(,2)('-) in the vacancy is correctly predicted, and is due to the repulsive interactions between PO(,2)('-) and the nearest and next nearest neighbor ions of the KCl lattice. However, the potential energy barriers for reorientation are incorrectly predicted by this model. The zero phonon line for the ('3)B(,1) ('1)A(,1) electronic transition has a Gaussian lineshape at low temperatures. The increase in the linewidth as a function of temperature follows a T('n) power law where n = 3.2. Analysis of the phonon sideb and for this transition yields a Stokes loss of 3.5. Five reproducible features are observed on this sideb and at 61, 144, 236, 359, and 444cm('-1) to lower energies from the zero phonon line. The first three features are attributed to the KCl density of states, and the last two may be due to librations of PO(,2)('-) about the equilibrium orientation. Dielectric relaxation was used to detect the motion of pyridine intercalated in CdPS(,3). Equations for the activation energy of the motion of a permanent dipole in the low temperature limit were derived. An activation energy of 3200cm('-1) was obtained from the dielectric relaxation data of pyridine. Hysteresis of the dielectric response as a result of thermal cycling was interpreted in terms of pyridine deintercalation which was confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis.Ph.D.Physical chemistryUniversity of Michiganhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/159737/1/8402281.pd
