Profitability Determinants of the Macedonian Banking Sector in Changing Environment
AbstractThis paper analyzes bank-specific, industry-specific and macroeconomic determinants of bank profitability. Dynamic panel analysis is applied on the sample of 16 banks in the Macedonian banking system in the period between 2005 and 2010. According to the obtained results, among internal factors of bank profitability, the most important one is operating expense management. Further, the profitability is influenced by solvency risk and liquidity risk. Regarding the external variables, economic growth, banking system reform and concentration show significant effect on bank profitability in the Republic of Macedonia

Spaces of democracy: art, politics, and artivism in the post-socialist city
In the countries of former Eastern Europe, the collapse of socialism and the subsequent onset of neoliberal capitalism have resulted in a massive transfiguration of urban public space at the hands of commercial interests. Examples include the proliferation of outdoor advertising that destroys the character of natural and historic urban landscapes, commercial events that restrict access to parks and squares, the design of retail kiosks and storefronts in and around public spaces that does not respect the local context sending a signal that it no longer represents the local community. Instead of public space where people interact freely, without the coercion of state institutions -the productive, constantly remade, democratic public space- there is space for recreation and entertainment where access is limited only to suitable members of the public: "A controlled and orderly retreat where a properly behaved public might experience the spectacle of the city" (Mitchell). Drawing on insights from major theorists of public space, this paper explores the transformation of urban space in the post-socialist cities of Central and Southeast Europe (Skopje), focusing on examples of creative reuse, artistic conversion and social re-writing of the urban landscape in the face of massive economic, political and social changes
Design of a business roadmap methodology: application in Air-Breathing Electric Propulsion (ABEP) systems for Very Low Earth Orbits (VLEO) missions
This thesis serves the objective of developing a methodology for high level strategic planning to link an organisation’s business model with the projection of a technology’s development and its implications on the market. So, the roadmapping methodology proposed involves the definition of a state of the art of the technology studied, an in-depth study of the markets on which it can have an impact, the analysis of stakeholders involved in its development, a quantification of the influence of inside and outside factors on the technology, a projection of the investment budget needs and, finally, a visual representation of the development proposed. The proposed methodology can be applied to a variety of technologies with only little adaptation needed. In this thesis, it has been applied to a case study of Air Breathing Electric Propulsion (ABEP) in Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) missions. VLEO refers to the region of Earth’s orbit between 80 and 400 km from the surface. This region has not been able to be exploited due to its conditions of high particle density, which creates drag and reduces the life of satellite missions dramatically, and the presence of highly corrosive atomic gas species. ABEP is a technology in development that collects these harmful particles and uses them as propellant for its electric thrusters, canceling the drag created and enabling sustainable long-term missions in VLEO. Through a series of commonly used tools for strategic planning and business analysis, a series of actions are proposed to deal with the main factors around the development of ABEP for the next 15 years. A cumulative investment budget of €2641 million is also calculated to best develop the proposed actions in the studied time span
A study on relationship between brand loyalty and customer service in insurance companies companies. The case of Macedonia and Albania
Despite of remarkable interests in the nature and role of marketing application from servicing perspective, there are limited researches on service branding. By describing four major aspects of service branding, present study studies these aspects and their impacts on service conceived quality and finally it investigates the impact of service conceived quality on customer loyalty. Represented model includes the impact of brand traditional image along with other three impacts, that is, company image, employees‘ confidence and company‘s confidence. By using a 100-subject sample of Albania and Macedonia Insurance Company‘s customers, the analyses show that brand image and company‘s image have direct and positive impact on service conceived quality while a significant relationship is not seen between company‘ confidence and employees‘ confidence with service quality. Finally, the aspects of service brand impacts indirectly on customers‘ loyalty via impacting on service conceived quality. The positive impact on brand image and company‘s image on service conceived quality are too important due to the fact these two service brand aspects are highly impacted by external marketing as well as the importance of external marketing and throughout campaigns for insurance company via radio, TV and other mass media. In one hand, since most insurance companies are similar in terms of provided services, one can distinguish the special brand of Albanian and Macedonian Insurance in terms of special discounts, discounts on simultaneous usage of several types of insurance, etc. On the other hand, increasing the accessibility to services throug h opening further affiliated branches and full explanations of insurance services – that are typically varied and detailed – in guiding brochures and notebooks lead into customers‘ awareness and finally into a separated mindset and a positive and effective service brand for the company
The role of middleware in boundary spanning - A study on the added value of middleware
