Radiation Hardness tests with neutron flux on different Silicon photomultiplier devices
Radiation hardness is an important requirement for solid state readout
devices operating in high radiation environments common in particle physics
experiments. The MEGII experiment, at PSI, Switzerland, investigates the
forbidden decay . Exploiting the most intense
muon beam of the world. A significant flux of non-thermal neutrons (kinetic
energy ) is present in the experimental hall produced along
the beamline and in the hall itself. We present the effects of neutron fluxes
comparable to the MEGII expected doses on several Silicon PhotoMulitpliers
(SiPMs). The tested models are: AdvanSiD ASD-NUV3S-P50 (used in MEGII
experiment), AdvanSiD ASD-NUV3S-P40, AdvanSiD ASD-RGB3S-P40, Hamamatsu and
Excelitas C30742-33-050-X. The neutron source is the thermal Sub-critical
Multiplication complex (SM1) moderated with water, located at the University of
Pavia (Italy). We report the change of SiPMs most important electric
parameters: dark current, dark pulse frequency, gain, direct bias resistance,

The singularity problem and phase-space noncanonical noncommutativity
The Wheeler-DeWitt equation arising from a Kantowski-Sachs model is
considered for a Schwarzschild black hole under the assumption that the scale
factors and the associated momenta satisfy a noncanonical noncommutative
extension of the Heisenberg-Weyl algebra. An integral of motion is used to
factorize the wave function into an oscillatory part and a function of a
configuration space variable. The latter is shown to be normalizable using
asymptotic arguments. It is then shown that on the hypersufaces of constant
value of the argument of the wave function's oscillatory piece, the probability
vanishes in the vicinity of the black hole singularity.Comment: 4 pages, revtex
Associations of womens position in the household and food insecurity with family planning use in Nepal.
BACKGROUND: Women in Nepal have low status, especially younger women in co-resident households. Nepal also faces high levels of household food insecurity and malnutrition, and stagnation in uptake of modern family planning methods. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to understand if household structure and food insecurity interact to influence family planning use in Nepal. METHODS: Using data on married, non-pregnant women aged 15-49 with at least one child from the Nepal 2011 Demographic and Health Survey (N = 7,460), we explore the relationship between womens position in the household, food insecurity as a moderator, and family planning use, using multi-variable logistic regressions. We adjust for household and individual factors, including other status-related variables. RESULTS: In adjusted models, living in a food insecure household and co-residing with in-laws either with no other daughter-in-laws or as the eldest or youngest daughter-in-law (compared to not-co-residing with in-laws) are all associated with lower odds of family planning use. In the interaction model, younger-sisters-in-law and women co-residing with no sisters-in-law in food insecure households have the lowest odds of family planning use. CONCLUSION: This study shows that household position is associated with family planning use in Nepal, and that food insecurity modifies these associations-highlighting the importance of considering both factors in understanding reproductive health care use in Nepal. Policies and programs should focus on the multiple pathways through which food insecurity impacts womens reproductive health, including focusing on women with the lowest status in households
Coherent States Expectation Values as Semiclassical Trajectories
We study the time evolution of the expectation value of the anharmonic
oscillator coordinate in a coherent state as a toy model for understanding the
semiclassical solutions in quantum field theory. By using the deformation
quantization techniques, we show that the coherent state expectation value can
be expanded in powers of such that the zeroth-order term is a classical
solution while the first-order correction is given as a phase-space Laplacian
acting on the classical solution. This is then compared to the effective action
solution for the one-dimensional \f^4 perturbative quantum field theory. We
find an agreement up to the order \l\hbar, where \l is the coupling
constant, while at the order \l^2 \hbar there is a disagreement. Hence the
coherent state expectation values define an alternative semiclassical dynamics
to that of the effective action. The coherent state semiclassical trajectories
are exactly computable and they can coincide with the effective action
trajectories in the case of two-dimensional integrable field theories.Comment: 20 pages, no figure
A Deformation Quantization Theory for Non-Commutative Quantum Mechanics
We show that the deformation quantization of non-commutative quantum
mechanics previously considered by Dias and Prata can be expressed as a Weyl
calculus on a double phase space. We study the properties of the star-product
thus defined, and prove a spectral theorem for the star-genvalue equation using
an extension of the methods recently initiated by de Gosson and Luef.Comment: Submitted for publicatio
Tratamento da esquitossomose mansoni pela oxamniquine em dose única, pela via oral
A oxamniquine em cápsulas foi usada no tratamento de 132 doentes com esquistossomose mansoni crônica, sendo 129 com a forma hepato-intestinal e 3 com a forma hepato-esplênica. A dose foi de 10 mg por quilo de peso corporal em 34 pacientes, 12.5 mg em 35 e 15 mg em 63. A tolerância foi excelente em 43,2% dos tratados, boa em 48,5% e satisfatória em 8,3%. As queixas mais freqüentes foram tonturas e sonolência, que aparecem logo após a ingestão da droga e são fugazes. Os exames de laboratório mostraram em um ou outro paciente somente discreta retenção de bromosulfaleina, aumento de transaminase e da bilirrubina, insuficientes para caracterizar uma hepatoxicidade evidente. O seguimento dos pacientes se prolongou por mais de quatro meses e constou de pelo menos cinco exames de fezes pelo método de sedimentação. Todos os exames foram negativos em 20 (66,66%) pacientes que tomaram 10 mg, em 13 (56,52%) que tomaram 12.5 mg e em 41 (89,13%) que tomaram 15 mg. Excluindo-se os menores de 16 anos subiu a 95% a negatividade entre os que foram tratados com 15 mg.Oxamniquine in capsules was used in the treatment of 132 patients with chronic Schistosoma mansoni infections. 129 having the hepato intestinal form and 3 the hepato splenic form. The dose was 10mg per kiio body weight in 34 patients, 12.5mg in 35 and 15mg ip 63. The tolerance was excellent in 43.2% of those treated, good in 48.5% and satisfactory in 8.3%. The most frequent complaints were dizziness and somnolence which appear soon after ingestion and was transitory. Laboratory investigations showed in a few patients bromosutphalein retention, raised transaminases or biiirubin but insufficient to constitute hepatoxicity. The follow-up of the patients continued for more than 4 months and consisted of five or more examinations by a sedimentation method. AH the examinations were negative in 20 (66.66%) patients who took lOmg, in 13 (56.52%) who took 12.5mg and in 41 (89.13%) who took 15mg. Excluding children of iess than 16 years the cure rate rises to 95% among patients treated with 15mg
Triaza-based amphiphilic chelators : synthetic route, in vitro characterization and in vivo studies of their Ga(III) and Al(III) chelates
Radiogalium chelates are important for diagnostic imaging in nuclear medicine (PET and ƴ-scintigraphy). Micelles are adequate colloidal vehicles for the delivery of therapeutic and diagnostic agents to organs and tissues. In this paper we describe the synthesis and in vitro and in vivo studies of a series of micelles-forming Ga(III) chelates targeted for the liver. The amphiphilic ligands are based on NOTA (NOTA = 1,4,7-triazacyclonoane-N,N’N’’-triacetic acid) and bear a α-alkyl chain in one of the pendant acetate arms (the size of the chain changes from four to fourteen carbon atoms). A multinuclear NMR study (1H, 13C, 27Al and 71Ga) gave some insights into the structure and dynamics of the metal chelates in solution, consistent with their rigidity and octahedral or pseudo-octahedral geometry. The critical micellar concentration of the chelates was determined using a fluorescence method and 27Al NMR spectroscopy (Al(III) was used as a surrogate of Ga(III)), both showing similar results and suggesting that the chelates of NOTAC6 form pre-micellar aggregates. The logP (octanol-water) determination showed enhancement of the lipophilic character of the Ga(III) chelates with the increase of the number of carbons in the α-alkyl chain. Biodistribution and Ƴ-scintigraphic studies of the 67Ga(III) labeled chelates were performed on Wistar rats, showing higher liver uptake for [67Ga](NOTAC8) in comparison to [67Ga](NOTAC6), consistent with a longer α-alkyl chain and a higher lipophilicity. After 24 hours both chelates were completely cleared off from the tissues and organs with no deposition in the bones and liver/spleen.
