Healing of open fracture of shoulder bone in owl

    Get PDF
Curing and treatment of accidental injuries in birds that have the nature of complex, old and contaminated wounds demand maximum caution from the surgeon. Birds, in particular wild fowl, are sensitive to manipulation during examinations and the diagnosis of the injuries. The estimate of the complexity of an injury and the general condition of the patient are of key importance for the correct choice of diagnostic procedures, anesthesia, and the operative procedure. The implementation of ketamine and diazepam for general injection anesthesia provides possibilities for the unhindered executing of the surgical procedure. The implementation of Kischner needles and pins is a good choice for the fixation of long bones in birds. The postoperative course in the patient requires constant medical and professional supervision which must be followed to the letter

In this article we apply up-to-date methods of quantitative language comparison, inspired by algorithms successfully applied in bioinformatics to decode DNA and determine the genetic relatedness of humans, to language data in an attempt to shed light on the current situation of a family of languages called Dogon, which are spoken in Mali, West Africa. Our aim is to determine the linguistic subgroupings of these languages, which we believe will shed light on their prehistory, highlight the linguistic diversity of these groups and which may ultimately inform studies on the cultural boundaries of these languages

    Get PDF
The experiment have been performed using samples of welded joints of the three components aluminium alloy AlMg4,5Mn. The welding was performed with GTAW in the shielded atmosphere of Ar+0,015N2, mixture of the inert gases Ar+50%He+0,015N2 and Ar+70%He+0,015N2. After welding has been completed, the metallographic tests, the tensile test and the tests of the hardness were performed. Also, the weld metal toughness was estimated, using the instrumental Charpy impact testing system, followed by estimating the crack initiation energy, crack growth energy and the fracture mechanics parameters. The goal was to establish the effects of shielding atmosphere composition on the mechanical properties and fracture mechanics parameters of weld metal

    Decoupling of superconducting layers in magnetic superconductor RuSr_{2}GdCu_{2}O_{8}

We propose the model for magnetic properties of the magnetic superconductor RuSr2_{2}GdCu2_{2}O8_{8}, which incorporates the theory of the superconducting/ferromagnetic multilayers. The transition line Td(h)T_{d}(h), on which the Josephson coupled superconducting planes are decoupled, i.e. jc(Td)=0% j_{c}(T_{d})=0, is calculated as a function of the exchange energy hh. As the result of this decoupling a nonmonotonic behavior of magnetic properties, like the lower critical field Hc1H_{c1}, Josephson plasma frequency, etc. is realized near (or by crossing) the Td(h)T_{d}(h) line. The obtained results are used in analyzing the newly discovered antiferromagnetic ruthenocuprate RuSr2_{2}GdCu2_{2}O8_{8} with possible weak ferromagnetic order in the RuO planes.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figs embede

Identification of Agrobacterium vitis as a causal agent of grapevine crown gall in Serbia

    Get PDF
In 2010, a serious outbreak of crown gall disease was observed on grapevines (Vitis vinifera L. cv. Cabernet Sauvignon) in several commercial vineyards located in the Vojvodina province, Serbia. Bacteria were isolated from the young tumor tissue on nonselective YMA medium and five representative strains were selected for further identification. Tumorigenic (Ti) plasmid was detected in all strains by PCR using primers designed to amplify the virC pathogenicity gene, producing a 414-bp PCR product. The strains were identified as Agrobacterium vitis using differential physiological and biochemical tests, and a multiplex PCR assay targeting 23S rRNA gene sequences. In the pathogenicity assay, all strains induced characteristic symptoms on inoculated tomato and grapevine plants. They were less virulent on tomato plants in comparison to the reference strains of A. tumefaciens and A. vitis. [Ministarstva nauke Republike Srbije, br. Quasiparticle energy spectrum in ferromagnetic Josephson weak links

The quasiparticles energy spectrum in clean ferromagnetic weak links between conventional superconductors is calculated. Large peaks in DOS, due to a special case of Andreev reflection at the ferromagnetic barrier, correspond to spin-splitt bound states. Their energies are obtained as a function of the barrier thickness, exchange field strength, and of the macroscopic phase difference ϕ\phi at the link, related to the Josephson current. In the ground state, ϕ\phi can be 0 or π\pi, depending on the ferromagnetic barrier influence. Conditions for the appearence of the zero-energy bound states (ZES) and for the spin polarized ground state (SPGS) are obtained analytically. It is shown that ZES appear only outside the weak link ground state.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure

Nowadays, heterogeneous welded joints in metallic constructions are more and more frequently used so that these welded joints are the subject of a large number of investigations. In the present paper, welded joints consisting of micro alloy steel and austenitic steel realized with various filler metals and welding technologies are presented. The conducted testing was aimed at establishing the effect of the type of filler metal and heat input on the total impact energy, crack-initiation and crack-propagation energy as well as on the fracture toughness at plane-strain state of ferritic-austenitic welded joints. Optimum welding technology providing the highest welded-joint safety and extending operation life of construction has been defined

CLIMATE TRENDS OF TEMPERATURE AND PRECIPITATION IN NIŠAVA RIVER VALLEY (SERBIA) FOR 1960-2015 PERIOD

    Get PDF
Since climate plays a crucial role on our planet and is an inseparable part of all human activities, it is necessary to precisely record all parameters in order to estimate current climate conditions, climate characteristics of a certain region, as well as to try to predict and calculate further trends of climate change. Therefore, for the purpose of this paper, air temperature and precipitation of four meteorological stations in the Nišava river valley in Southeastern Serbia (municipalities of Dimitrovgrad, Pirot, Bela Palanka and Niš) have been considered for the period 1960-2015 along with statistical methods for analysis of these parameters and prediction of their trends. Results have shown that there is a positive trend in mean annual air temperatures and average seasonal air temperatures for the whole region which can influence natural processes and human activities. For precipitation, it can be concluded that no significant change in mean annual precipitation for the observed period has occurred. However, there is a great difference in the amount of precipitation between consecutive years, especially from 2000 onwards which can cause very dry years or years with floods

Spontaneous Spin Polarized Currents in Superconductor-Ferromagnetic Metal Heterostructures

We study a simple microscopic model for thin, ferromagnetic, metallic layers on semi-infinite bulk superconductor. We find that for certain values of the exchange spliting, on the ferromagnetic side, the ground states of such structures feature spontaneously induced spin polarized currents. Using a mean-field theory, which is selfconsistent with respect to the pairing amplitude χ\chi, spin polarization m\vec{m} and the spontaneous current js\vec{j}_s, we show that not only there are Andreev bound states in the ferromagnet but when their energies EnE_n are near zero they support spontaneous currents parallel to the ferromagnetic-superconducting interface. Moreover, we demonstrate that the spin-polarization of these currents depends sensitively on the band filling.Comment: 4 pages, 5 Postscript figures (included
