Prospects for improvement of mining machines' cutting picks
Advantages and disadvantages of tangential rotary picks widely used in mining machines are described. A prospective line of picks design improvement has been found based on a change in the principle of destruction. A new design of blade-type cutting picks with a reinforcing tip is proposed having extended service life, requiring less energy for rock breaking, reducing yield of fine dust and increasing the grade of the mined coal
Electromechanically tunable dielectric microwave devices
High-tunable low-loss microwave dielectric devices are designed by electromechanical alteration in the configuration of device components. Specifically, this device consists of dielectric and metallic parts with an air gap between them. The gap location provides the largest perturbation in the electromagnetic field and a mini-actuator controls the device. Through experiments conducted, we test and apply the high-tunable dielectric resonators and filters as well as wide-band low-loss phase shifters
Zipf's Law : Balancing signal usage cost and communication efficiency
Copyright: © 2015 Salge et al. This is an open access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are creditedWe propose a model that explains the reliable emergence of power laws (e.g., Zipf's law) during the development of different human languages. The model incorporates the principle of least effort in communications, minimizing a combination of the information-Theoretic communication inefficiency and direct signal cost. We prove a general relationship, for all optimal languages, between the signal cost distribution and the resulting distribution of signals. Zipf's law then emerges for logarithmic signal cost distributions, which is the cost distribution expected for words constructed from letters or phonemes. Environmental Improvement Of Opencast Mining
Existing classifications of waste dumps in the quarries are given and their phenomenological nature is clarified. The need to identify the essence of the term "dump" is shown as well as the idea of "dump" as an artificial formation with everted and mixed rocks distanced from the quarry. Essential classification of man-made rock formations in quarries is developed. Characteristic of variations of man-made waste formations in quarries is developed. To reduce harmful effects of open-pit mining, dumps should be substituted with strat-lays - man-made structures relevant to natural stratification of litho-substances. Construction of strat-lays would improve ecological and technological culture of open cast mining

RoboCup 2D Soccer Simulation League: Evaluation Challenges
We summarise the results of RoboCup 2D Soccer Simulation League in 2016
(Leipzig), including the main competition and the evaluation round. The
evaluation round held in Leipzig confirmed the strength of RoboCup-2015
champion (WrightEagle, i.e. WE2015) in the League, with only eventual finalists
of 2016 competition capable of defeating WE2015. An extended, post-Leipzig,
round-robin tournament which included the top 8 teams of 2016, as well as
WE2015, with over 1000 games played for each pair, placed WE2015 third behind
the champion team (Gliders2016) and the runner-up (HELIOS2016). This
establishes WE2015 as a stable benchmark for the 2D Simulation League. We then
contrast two ranking methods and suggest two options for future evaluation
challenges. The first one, "The Champions Simulation League", is proposed to
include 6 previous champions, directly competing against each other in a
round-robin tournament, with the view to systematically trace the advancements
in the League. The second proposal, "The Global Challenge", is aimed to
increase the realism of the environmental conditions during the simulated
games, by simulating specific features of different participating countries.Comment: 12 pages, RoboCup-2017, Nagoya, Japan, July 201

Genome-wide association study of the modified Stumvoll Insulin Sensitivity Index identifies BCL2 and FAM19A2 as novel insulin sensitivity loci.
Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have found few common variants that influence fasting measures of insulin sensitivity. We hypothesized that a GWAS of an integrated assessment of fasting and dynamic measures of insulin sensitivity would detect novel common variants. We performed GWAS of the modified Stumvoll Insulin Sensitivity Index (ISI) within the Meta-Analyses of Glucose and Insulin-related traits Consortium. Discovery was performed in 16,753 individuals, and replication was attempted for the 23 most significant novel loci in 13,354 independent individuals. Association with ISI was tested in models adjusted for age, sex, body mass index (BMI) and in a model ("Model 3") analyzing the combined influence of the genotype effect adjusted for BMI and the interaction effect between the genotype and BMI on ISI. In Model 3, three variants reached genome-wide significance: rs13422522 (NYAP2, P=8.87 ×10(-11)), rs12454712 (BCL2, P=2.7×10(-8)) and rs10506418 (FAM19A2, P=1.9×10(-8)). The association at NYAP2 was eliminated by conditioning on the known IRS1 insulin sensitivity locus; the BCL2 and FAM19A2 associations were independent of known cardio-metabolic loci. In conclusion, we identified two novel loci and replicated known variants associated with insulin sensitivity. Further studies are needed to clarify the causal variant and function at the BCL2 and FAM19A2 loci
