Ultraviolet and thermally stable polymer compositions

A new class of polymers is provided, namely, poly (diarylsiloxy) arylazines. These novel polymers have a basic chemical composition which has the property of stabilizing the optical and physical properties of the polymer against the degradative effect of ultraviolet light and high temperatures. This stabilization occurs at wavelengths including those shorter than found on the surface of the earth and in the absence or presence of oxygen, making the polymers useful for high performance coating applications in extraterrestrial space as well as similar applications in terrestrial service. The invention also provides novel aromatic azines which are useful in the preparation of polymers such as those described

New Results from the MINOS Experiment

In this paper we present the latest results from the MINOS Experiment. This includes a new measurement of the atmospheric neutrino oscillation parameters based on 3.36 x 10^20 protons-on-target of data and a first analysis of neutral current events in the Far Detector. The prospects for nu-e appearance measurements in MINOS are also discussed.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, for the Proceedings of the Neutrino 2008 Conference, Christchurch, N

Copolymers, produced from aromatic substituted aromatic azine-siloxane compositions, are thermally stable, solar ultraviolet light non-degradable by wavelengths shorter than those reaching earth surface

Impact absorbing blade mounts for variable pitch blades

    Get PDF
A variable pitch blade and blade mount are reported that are suitable for propellers, fans and the like and which have improved impact resistance. Composite fan blades and blade mounting arrangements permit the blades to pivot relative to a turbine hub about an axis generally parallel to the centerline of the engine upon impact of a large foreign object, such as a bird. Centrifugal force recovery becomes the principal energy absorbing mechanism and a blade having improved impact strength is obtained

Improved Measurement of Muon Antineutrino Disappearance in MINOS

We report an improved measurement of ν̅_μ disappearance over a distance of 735 km using the MINOS detectors and the Fermilab Main Injector neutrino beam in a ν̅_μ-enhanced configuration. From a total exposure of 2.95×10^20 protons on target, of which 42% have not been previously analyzed, we make the most precise measurement of Δm̅^2=[2.62_(-0.28)^(+0.31)(stat)±0.09(syst)]×10^(-3)  eV^2 and constrain the ν_μ mixing angle sin^(2)(2θ̅)>0.75 (90% C.L.). These values are in agreement with Δm^2 and sin^(2)(2θ) measured for νμ, removing the tension reported in [ P. Adamson et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 107 021801 (2011)]
