Quantifying Absorption in the Transactional Interpretation
The Transactional Interpretation offers a solution to the measurement problem
by identifying specific physical conditions precipitating the non-unitary
`measurement transition' of von Neumann. Specifically, the transition occurs as
a result of absorber response (a process lacking in the standard approach to
the theory). The purpose of this Letter is to make clear that, despite recent
claims to the contrary, the concepts of `absorber' and `absorber response,' as
well as the process of absorption, are physically and quantitatively
well-defined in the transactional picture. In addition, the Born Rule is

Aeroelastic model helicopter rotor testing in the Langley TDT
Wind-tunnel testing of a properly scaled aeroelastic model helicopter rotor is considered a necessary phase in the design development of new or existing rotor systems. For this reason, extensive testing of aeroelastically scaled model rotors is done in the Transonic Dynamics Tunnel (TDT) located at the NASA Langley Research Center. A unique capability of this facility, which enables proper dynamic scaling, is the use of Freon as a test medium. A description of the TDT and a discussion of the benefits of using Freon as a test medium are presented. A description of the model test bed used, the Aeroelastic Rotor Experimental System (ARES), is also provided and examples of recent rotor tests are cited to illustrate the advantages and capabilities of aeroelastic model rotor testing in the TDT. The importance of proper dynamic scaling in identifying and solving rotorcraft aeroelastic problems, and the importance of aeroelastic testing of model rotor systems in the design of advanced rotor systems are demonstrated
New CP-violation and preferred-frame tests with polarized electrons
We used a torsion pendulum containing polarized
electrons to search for CP-violating interactions between the pendulum's
electrons and unpolarized matter in the laboratory's surroundings or the sun,
and to test for preferred-frame effects that would precess the electrons about
a direction fixed in inertial space. We find and for AU. Our preferred-frame constraints, interpreted in
the Kosteleck\'y framework, set an upper limit on the parameter eV that should be compared to the benchmark

Wind-tunnel evaluation of an advanced main-rotor blade design for a utility-class helicopter
An investigation was conducted in the Langley Transonic Dynamics Tunnel to evaluate differences between an existing utility-class main-rotor blade and an advanced-design main-rotor blade. The two rotor blade designs were compared with regard to rotor performance oscillatory pitch-link loads, and 4-per-rev vertical fixed-system loads. Tests were conducted in hover and over a range of simulated full-scale gross weights and density altitude conditions at advance ratios from 0.15 to 0.40. Results indicate that the advanced blade design offers performance improvements over the baseline blade in both hover and forward flight. Pitch-link oscillatory loads for the baseline rotor were more sensitive to the test conditions than those of the advanced rotor. The 4-per-rev vertical fixed-system load produced by the advanced blade was larger than that produced by the baseline blade at all test conditions
A systematic review and meta-analysis on the effects of yoga on weight-related outcomes
© 2016 Elsevier Inc. Introduction Overweight and obesity are among the most important modifiable risk factors for chronic diseases and premature death. The aim of this review was to systematically assess and analyze the effects of yoga on weight-related outcomes. Methods Medline/PubMed, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library were screened through March 2015 for randomized controlled trials on yoga for weight-related outcomes in the general population or overweight/obese individuals. Risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool on the following domains: selection bias, performance bias, detection bias, attrition bias, reporting bias, and other bias. Results Out of 445 records identified during literature search, 30 trials with a total of 2173 participants were included. No effects on weight, body mass index, body fat percentage or waist circumference were found. In studies with healthy adult participants an effect of yoga compared to usual care was found regarding waist/hip ratio (SMD =‐ − 1.00; 95% CI =‐ − 1.44, − 0.55; p < 0.001). In studies with overweight/obese participants only, effects relative to usual care were found for body mass index (SMD = − 0.99; 95% CI = − 1.67, − 0.31; p = 0.004). Effects however were not robust against selection bias; and publication bias could not be ruled out. No intervention-related adverse events were reported. Conclusions Despite methodological drawbacks, yoga can be preliminarily considered a safe and effective intervention to reduce body mass index in overweight or obese individuals
A systematic review and meta-analysis of qigong for the fibromyalgia syndrome
Objectives. The fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a chronic condition with only few evidence-based complementary and alternative therapies available. This paper presents a systematic review and meta-analysis of the effectiveness of Qigong for fibromyalgia syndrome. Methods. The PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, Embase, PsycINFO, and Cambase databases were screened in December 2012 to identify randomized controlled trials comparing Qigong to control interventions. Major outcome measures were pain and quality of life; and secondary outcomes included sleep quality, fatigue, depression, and safety. Standardized mean differences (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals were calculated. Results. Seven trials were located with a total of 395 FMS patients. Analyses revealed low quality evidence for short-term improvement of pain, quality of life, and sleep quality and very low quality evidence for improvement of fatigue after Qigong for FMS, when compared to usual care. No evidence was found for superiority of Qigong compared to active treatments. No serious adverse events were reported. Discussion. This systematic review found that Qigong may be a useful approach for FMS patients. According to the quality of evidence, only a weak recommendation for Qigong can be made at this point. Further high quality RCTs are required for the conclusive judgment of its long-term effects. © 2013 Romy Lauche et al
The thermal and two-particle stress-energy must be ill-defined on the 2-d Misner space chronology horizon
We show that an analogue of the (four dimensional) image sum method can be
used to reproduce the results, due to Krasnikov, that for the model of a real
massless scalar field on the initial globally hyperbolic region IGH of
two-dimensional Misner space there exist two-particle and thermal Hadamard
states (built on the conformal vacuum) such that the (expectation value of the
renormalised) stress-energy tensor in these states vanishes on IGH. However, we
shall prove that the conclusions of a general theorem by Kay, Radzikowski and
Wald still apply for these states. That is, in any of these states, for any
point b on the Cauchy horizon and any neighbourhood N of b, there exists at
least one pair of non-null related points (x,x'), with x and x' in the
intersection of IGH with N, such that (a suitably differentiated form of) its
two-point function is singular. (We prove this by showing that the two-point
functions of these states share the same singularities as the conformal vacuum
on which they are built.) In other words, the stress-energy tensor in any of

Farm Revenue Assurance or Income Insurance?
Exact date of working paper unknown.Farm revenue insurance has public appeal as a potential means to reduce annual variation in farm income while also reducing the cost of commodity programs. For some time, economists have been attracted to the idea of farm revenue insurance as a policy instrument addressing farm economic instability. Public enthusiasm for the idea intensified after endorsement by the Iowa 1995 Farm Bill Study Team. The broad appeal of the proposal was apparent: it had the support of 11 organizations ranging in philosophy from the Iowa Farm Bureau to the National Farmers Organization. This paper lists advantages and disadvantages of revenue insurance. Preliminary empirical analysis suggests how that program may affect farm income associated with various crops and regions. We conclude with a proposal to make revenue insurance workable as an income insurance program administered through the federal income tax
