Addenda and omissions to the catalogue and checklist of the Cerambycidae and Disteniidae (Coleoptera) of the Western hemisphere

    Get PDF
The Catalogue (Monne, 1993-1994) and Checklist (Monne and Giesbert, 1995) of the Cerambycidae and Disteniidae of the Western Hemisphere represents a necessary, and valuable tool since recompilation of Blackwelder (1946) was made. Species with references (omissions), and without them (new records) are given for some countries

Correlation established between heat transfer and ultrasonic transmission properties of copper braze bonds

Measuring and correlating the thermal conductivity and ultrasonic transmission of seven hot-brazed-bonded copper plates established a relationship between heat transfer and ultrasonic transmission properties of the bonds. This relationship permits the prediction of heat transfer characteristics from ultrasonic transmission tests

The genus Erlandia Aurivillius, 1904 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) in Argentina, with the description of a new species

The genus Erlandia (Cerambycinae: Erlandiini) was described by Aurivillius in 1904, containing a single species, Erlandia inopinata, distributed in Bolivia, Argentina, and Paraguay. Anew species, E. megacephala, from Argentina is described, and illustrated here. A key and distribution map of both species are provided, with a generic diagnosis using characters of both species

Anti-transpirant effects on vine physiology, berry and wine composition of cv. Aglianico (Vitis vinifera L.) Grown in South Italy

In viticulture, global warming requires reconsideration of current production models. At the base of this need there are some emerging phenomena: modification of phenological phases; acceleration of the maturation process of grapes, with significant increases in the concentration of sugar musts; decoupling between technological grape maturity and phenolic maturity. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effect of a natural anti-transpirant on grapevine physiology, berry, and wine composition of Aglianico cultivar. For two years, Aglianico vines were treated at veraison with the anti-transpirant Vapor Gard and compared with a control sprayed with only water. A bunch thinning was also applied to both treatments. The effectiveness of Vapor Gard were assessed through measurements of net photosynthesis and transpiration and analyzing the vegetative, productive and qualitative parameters. The results demonstrate that the application of antitranspirant reduced assimilation and transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, berry sugar accumulation, and wine alcohol content. No significant differences between treatments were observed for other berry and wine compositional parameters. This method may be a useful tool to reduce berry sugar content and to produce wines with a lower alcohol content

Forecasting strong aftershocks in earthquake clusters from northeastern Italy and western Slovenia

In this study, we propose an analysis of the earthquake clusters that occurred in North-Eastern Italy and western Slovenia from 1977 to today. Given a mainshock generating alarm in the population, we are interested in forecasting if a similar magnitude earthquake will follow. We classify the earthquake clusters associated with mainshocks of magnitude Mm into two classes: if the strongest aftershock has a magnitude >=Mm-1 (swarms or large aftershock seismic sequences) as type A, otherwise (smaller aftershocks seismic sequences) as type B. A large aftershock following a main shock can cause significant damages to already weakened buildings and infrastructures, so a timely advisory information to the civil protection is of great interest for effective decision-making. For the first time, we applied to a new catalogue a pattern recognition algorithm for cluster type forecasting that we developed for all Italy (Gentili and Di Giovambattista, 2017). Thanks to the lower completeness magnitude of the local OGS catalogue, compared to the national one, and to a new version of the algorithm, we were able to lower the threshold of the clusters mainshocks magnitude from 4.5 to 3.7. The method has been validated by rigorous statistical tests. We tested the algorithm on the 1976 highly destructive earthquake cluster (mainshock magnitude 6.5 - the strongest in the last 80 years in the region) and we retrospectively forecasted it as an A cluster. Successful results were obtained also on other three smaller earthquake clusters in 2019.Comment: 42 page

Hard Exclusive Electroproduction of Two Pions off Proton and Deuteron at HERMES

    Get PDF
Exclusive electroproduction of π+π\pi^+\pi^- pairs off hydrogen and deuterium targets has been studied with the HERMES experiment. The angular distribution of the π+\pi^+ in the π+π\pi^+\pi^- rest system has been studied in the invariant mass range 0.3<mππ<1.50.3 < m_{\pi\pi} <1.5 GeV. Theoretical models derived in the framework of the Generalized Parton Distributions show that this angular distribution receives only contributions from the interference between the isoscalar channel I=0 and the isovector channel I=1.Comment: 5 pages, LaTex, 9 EPS figures. A Unification Free Introduction to Logic Programming

    No full text
In this paper, we give a new presentation of the fundamental results of the theory of Logic Programming, which differs from classical introductions in at least two ways: the use of predicate algebras to deal with model theoretical aspects and the parameterization of the resolution algorithm with respect to the specific unification algorithm implemented
