    Determination of the Michel Parameters rho, xi, and delta in tau-Lepton Decays with tau --> rho nu Tags

    Full text link
    Using the ARGUS detector at the e+ee^+ e^- storage ring DORIS II, we have measured the Michel parameters ρ\rho, ξ\xi, and ξδ\xi\delta for τ±l±ννˉ\tau^{\pm}\to l^{\pm} \nu\bar\nu decays in τ\tau-pair events produced at center of mass energies in the region of the Υ\Upsilon resonances. Using τρν\tau^\mp \to \rho^\mp \nu as spin analyzing tags, we find ρe=0.68±0.04±0.08\rho_{e}=0.68\pm 0.04 \pm 0.08, ξe=1.12±0.20±0.09\xi_{e}= 1.12 \pm 0.20 \pm 0.09, ξδe=0.57±0.14±0.07\xi\delta_{e}= 0.57 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.07, ρμ=0.69±0.06±0.08\rho_{\mu}= 0.69 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.08, ξμ=1.25±0.27±0.14\xi_{\mu}= 1.25 \pm 0.27 \pm 0.14 and ξδμ=0.72±0.18±0.10\xi\delta_{\mu}= 0.72 \pm 0.18 \pm 0.10. In addition, we report the combined ARGUS results on ρ\rho, ξ\xi, and ξδ\xi\delta using this work und previous measurements.Comment: 10 pages, well formatted postscript can be found at http://pktw06.phy.tu-dresden.de/iktp/pub/desy97-194.p

    Study of B -> \rho \pi decays at Belle

    Full text link
    This paper describes a study of B meson decays to the pseudoscalar-vector final state \rho\pi using 31.9\times 10^6 B\bar{B} events collected with the Belle detector at KEKB. The branching fractions B(B^+ \to \rho^0\pi^+) = (8.0^{+2.3+0.7}_{-2.0-0.7}) \times 10^{-6} and B(B^0 -> \rho^{+-} \pi^{-+}) = (20.8^{+6.0+2.8}_{-6.3-3.1}) \times 10^{-6} are obtained. In addition, a 90% confidence level upper limit of B(B^0 \to \rho^0\pi^0) < 5.3 \times 10^{-6}is reported.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures, to be submitted to Phys. Lett.

    Spectral Correlation in Incommensurate Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

    Full text link
    We investigate the energy spectra of clean incommensurate double-walled carbon nanotubes, and find that the overall spectral properties are described by the so-called critical statistics of Anderson metal-insulator transition. In the energy spectra, there exist three different regimes characterized by Wigner-Dyson, Poisson, and semi-Poisson distributions. This feature implies that the electron transport in incommensurate multi-walled nanotubes can be either diffusive, ballistic, or intermediate between them, depending on the position of the Fermi energy.Comment: final version to appear in Phys. Observation of B+ to Lambda Lambdabar K+

    Full text link
    We report the first observation of the charmless hyperonic B decay, B^+ --> Lambda Lambdabar K^+, using a 140 fb^-1 data sample recorded at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e^+e^- collider. The measured branching fraction is B(B^+ --> Lambda Lambdabar K^+) = 2.91 ^{+0.90}_{-0.70} +/- 0.38 *10^-6 . We also perform a search for the related decay mode B^+ --> Lambda Lambdabar pi^+, but do not find a significant signal. We set a 90% confidence-level upper limit of B(B^+ --> Lambda Lambdabar pi^+) < 2.8 * 10^-6.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev. Let

    Observation of B+- -> omega K+- Decay

    Full text link
    We report the first observation of the charmless two-body mode B±ωK±B^{\pm} \to \omega K^{\pm} decay, and a new measurement of the branching fraction for the B±ωπ±B^{\pm} \to \omega \pi^{\pm} decay. The measured branching fractions are B(B±ωK±)=(9.22.3+2.6±1.0)×106{\cal B} (B^{\pm} \to \omega K^{\pm}) = (9.2{}^{+2.6}_{-2.3}\pm 1.0) \times 10^{-6} and B(B±ωπ±)=(4.21.8+2.0±0.5)×106{\cal B} (B^{\pm} \to \omega \pi^{\pm}) = (4.2{}^{+2.0}_{-1.8}\pm 0.5) \times 10^{-6}. %and we set 90% confidence level upper limits of %B(Bωπ)<8.1×106{\cal B} (B^- \to \omega \pi^-) < 8.1\times 10^{-6}. We also measure the partial rate asymmetry of B±ωK±B^{\pm}\to\omega K^{\pm} decays and obtain ACP=0.21±0.28±0.03{\cal A}_{CP} = -0.21 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.03. The results are based on a data sample of 29.4 fb1^{-1} collected on the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ee^{+} e^{-} collider.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, resubmitted to Phys.     Measurements of Branching Fractions and CP Asymmetries in B-> etah Decays

    Full text link
    We report measurements of B to pseudoscalar-pseudoscalar decays with at least one eta meson in the final state using 140 fb^{-1} of data collected by the Belle detector at KEKB e^+ e^- collider. We observe the decay B^+-> eta pi^+ and find evidence of B^+-> eta K+; the measured branching fractions are B(B^+-> eta pi^+)=(4.8^{+0.8}_{-0.7}(stat) +- 0.3(sys))*10^{-6} and B(B^+-> eta K^+)=(2.1 +- 0.6(stat)+- 0.2(sys))*10^{-6}. Their corresponding CP violating asymmetries are measured to be 0.07+- 0.15 (stat) +- 0.03(sys) for eta pi^+- and -0.49+- 0.31 (stat) +- 0.07(sys) for eta K^+-. No significant signals are found for neutral B->eta h decays. We report the following upper limits on branching fractions at the 90% confidence level: B(B-> eta K^0 < 2.0* 10^{-6}, B(B-> eta pi0) eta eta) <2.0*10^{-6}.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure

    Full text link
    We report the first observation of the decay B0->pi0pi0, using a 253/fb data sample collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. The measured branching fraction is BF(B0->pi0pi0) = {2.32 +0.4-0.5(stat) +0.2-0.3(syst)} x 10^-6, with a significance of 5.8 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties. We also make the first measurement of the direct CP violating asymmetry in this mode.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, submitted to ICHEP04, Beijing and Physical Review Letters. v2: a possible pile-up background is checked and a systematic error for it is include

    Inclusive V0V^0 Production Cross Sections from 920 GeV Fixed Target Proton-Nucleus Collisions

    Full text link
    Inclusive differential cross sections dσpA/dxFd\sigma_{pA}/dx_F and dσpA/dpt2d\sigma_{pA}/dp_t^2 for the production of \kzeros, \lambdazero, and \antilambda particles are measured at HERA in proton-induced reactions on C, Al, Ti, and W targets. The incident beam energy is 920 GeV, corresponding to s=41.6\sqrt {s} = 41.6 GeV in the proton-nucleon system. The ratios of differential cross sections \rklpa and \rllpa are measured to be 6.2±0.56.2\pm 0.5 and 0.66±0.070.66\pm 0.07, respectively, for \xf 0.06\approx-0.06. No significant dependence upon the target material is observed. Within errors, the slopes of the transverse momentum distributions dσpA/dpt2d\sigma_{pA}/dp_t^2 also show no significant dependence upon the target material. The dependence of the extrapolated total cross sections σpA\sigma_{pA} on the atomic mass AA of the target material is discussed, and the deduced cross sections per nucleon σpN\sigma_{pN} are compared with results obtained at other energies.Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures, 5 table

    Observation of B0ˉ\bar{B^0} -> DsJ*(2317)+ K- decay

    Full text link
    The decays B0ˉDsJ+K\bar{B^0} \to D_{sJ}^+ K^- and B0ˉDsJπ+\bar{B^0} \to D_{sJ}^- \pi^+ are studied for the first time. A significant signal is observed in the B0ˉDsJ(2317)+K\bar{B^0} \to D_{sJ}^*(2317)^+ K^- decay channel with B(B0ˉDsJ(2317)+K)×B(DsJ(2317)+Ds+π0)=(5.31.3+1.5±0.7±1.4)×105{\cal B}(\bar{B^0} \to D_{sJ}^*(2317)^+ K^-) \times {\cal B} (D_{sJ}^*(2317)^+ \to D_s^+ \pi^0) = (5.3^{+1.5}_{-1.3} \pm 0.7 \pm 1.4) \times 10^{-5}. No signals are observed in the B0ˉDsJ(2317)π+\bar{B^0} \to D_{sJ}^*(2317)^- \pi^+, B0ˉDsJ(2460)+K\bar{B^0} \to D_{sJ}(2460)^+ K^- and B0ˉDsJ(2460)π+\bar{B^0} \to D_{sJ}(2460)^- \pi^+ decay modes, and upper limits are obtained. The analysis is based on a dataset of 140 fb1^{-1} collected by the Belle experiment at the asymmetric e+ee^+ e^- collider KEKB.Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures, submitted to PR

    Improved Measurements of Partial Rate Asymmetry in B -> h h Decays

    Full text link
    We report improved measurements of the partial rate asymmetry (Acp) in B -> h h decays with 140fb^-1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. Here h stands for a charged or neutral pion or kaon and in total five decay modes are included: K-+ pi+-, K0s pi-+, K-+ pi0, pi-+ pi0 and K0s pi0. The flavor of the last decay mode is determined from the accompanying B meson. Using a data sample 4.7 times larger than that of our previous measurement, we find Acp(K-+ pi+-) -0.088+-0.035+-0.013, 2.4 sigma from zero. Results for other decay modes are also presented.Comment: 9 pages, 1 figur
