Pure Spinor Superstrings on Generic type IIA Supergravity Backgrounds

We derive the Free Differential Algebra for type IIA supergravity in 10 dimensions in the string frame. We provide all fermionic terms for all curvatures. We derive the Green-Schwarz sigma model for type IIA superstring based on the FDA construction and we check its invariance under kappa-symmetry. Finally, we derive the pure spinor sigma model and we check the BRST invariance. The present derivation has the advantage that the resulting sigma model is constructed in terms of the superfields appearing in the FDA and therefore one can directly relate a supergravity background with the corresponding sigma model. The complete explicit form of the BRST transformations is given and some new pure spinor constraints are obtained. Finally, the explicit form of the action is given.Comment: 31 pp. no figures, latex, some modifications at pag 21, a missing term in 4.51 corrected. Discussion on BRST symmetry improve

Black hole - D-brane correspondence: An example

    Get PDF
We explore the connection between D-branes and black holes in one particular case: a D3D3-brane compactified to four dimensions on T6/Z3T^6/Z_3. Using the DD-brane boundary state description we show the equivalence with a double extremal N=2 black hole solution of four dimensional supergravity.Comment: 15 pages, LaTeX. Contribution by C. R-Symmetry and the Topological Twist of N=2 Effective Supergravities of Heterotic Strings

    Get PDF
We discuss R-symmetries in locally supersymmetric N=2 gauge theories coupled to hypermultiplets which can be thought of as effective theories of heterotic superstring models. In this type of supergravities a suitable R-symmetry exists and can be used to topologically twist the theory: the vector multiplet containing the dilaton-axion field has different R-charge assignments with respect to the other vector multiplets. Correspondingly a system of coupled instanton equations emerges, mixing gravitational and Yang--Mills instantons with triholomorphic hyperinstantons and axion-instantons. For the tree-level classical special manifolds ST(n)=SU(1,1)/U(1)×SO(2,n)/(SO(2)ST(n)=SU(1,1)/U(1)\times SO(2,n)/(SO(2) ×SO(n))\times SO(n)) R-symmetry with the specified properties is a continuous symmetry, but for the quantum corrected manifolds ST^(n){\hat {ST}}(n) a discrete R--group of electric--magnetic duality rotations is sufficient and we argue that it exists.Comment: 40 pages, plain LaTeX. De Sitter solutions in N=4 matter coupled supergravity

    Get PDF
We investigate the scalar potential of gauged N=4 supergravity with matter. The extremum in the SU(1,1)/U(1) scalars is obtained for an arbitrary number of matter multiplets. The constraints on the matter scalars are solved in terms of an explicit parametrisation of an SO(6,6+n) element. For the case of six matter multiplets we discuss both compact and noncompact gauge groups. In an example involving noncompact groups and four scalars we find a potential with an absolute minimum and a positive cosmological constant.Comment: 14 page

Supersymmetric completion of M-theory 4D-gauge algebra from twisted tori and fluxes

We present the supersymmetric completion of the M-theory free differential algebra resulting from a compactification to four dimensions on a twisted seven-torus with 4-form and 7-form fluxes turned on. The super--curvatures are given and the local supersymmetry transformations derived. Dual formulations of the theory are discussed in connection with classes of gaugings corresponding to diverse choices of vacua. This also includes seven dimensional compactifications on more general spaces not described by group manifolds.Comment: 19 pages, LaTeX, typos corrected, references adde

Features of deSitter Vacua in M-Theory

We compute the masses of all moduli in the unstable deSitter vacua arising in the toy model of cosmological M-theory flux compactifications on the G2 holonomy manifolds of [1]. The slow-roll parameters in the tachyonic directions are shown to be too large to be useful for conventional models of inflation. However, it appears that we can find fast roll regimes which could, under certain conditions, account for the current dark energy driven accelerated expansion of the universe.Comment: 14 pages, 1 figur

Potential and mass-matrix in gauged N=4 supergravity

    Get PDF
We discuss the potential and mass-matrix of gauged N=4 matter coupled supergravity for the case of six matter multiplets, extending previous work by considering the dependence on all scalars. We consider all semi-simple gauge groups and analyse the potential and its first and second derivatives in the origin of the scalar manifold. Although we find in a number of cases an extremum with a positive cosmological constant, these are not stable under fluctuations of all scalar fields.Comment: 28 pages, LaTe

    Black-Hole Attractors in N=1 Supergravity

    Get PDF
We study the attractor mechanism for N=1 supergravity coupled to vector and chiral multiplets and compute the attractor equations of these theories. These equations may have solutions depending on the choice of the holomorphic symmetric matrix f_{\Lambda\Sigma} which appears in the kinetic lagrangian of the vector sector. Models with non trivial electric-magnetic duality group which have or have not attractor behavior are exhibited. For a particular class of models, based on an N=1 reduction of homogeneous special geometries, the attractor equations are related to the theory of pure spinors.Comment: 25 pages, typos corrected, formulas adde

Time varying α\alpha in N=8 extended Supergravity

There has been some evidence that the fine structure "constant" α\alpha may vary with time. We point out that this variation can be described by a scalar field in some supergravity theory in our toy model, for instance, the N=8 extended supergravity in four dimensions which can be accommodated in M-theory.Comment: 5 pages,1 figures.
