Remarks on Screening in a Gauge-Invariant Formalism
In this paper we display a direct and physically attractive derivation of the
screening contribution to the interaction potential in the Chiral Schwinger
model and generalized Maxwell-Chern-Simons gauge theory. It is shown that these
results emerge naturally when a correct separation between gauge-invariant and
gauge degrees of freedom is made. Explicit expressions for gauge-invariant

Coulomb's law modification driven by a logarithmic electrodynamics
We examine physical aspects for the electric version of a recently proposed
logarithmic electrodynamics, for which the electric field of a point-like
charge is finite at the origin. It is shown that this electrodynamics displays
the vacuum birefringence phenomenon in the presence of external magnetic field.
Afterwards we compute the lowest-order modification to the interaction energy
by means of the gauge-invariant but path-dependent variables formalism. These
are shown to result in a long-range (-type) correction, in addition to a

Entropic force, noncommutative gravity and ungravity
After recalling the basic concepts of gravity as an emergent phenomenon, we
analyze the recent derivation of Newton's law in terms of entropic force
proposed by Verlinde. By reviewing some points of the procedure, we extend it
to the case of a generic quantum gravity entropic correction to get compelling
deviations to the Newton's law. More specifically, we study: (1) noncommutative
geometry deviations and (2) ungraviton corrections. As a special result in the
noncommutative case, we find that the noncommutative character of the manifold
would be equivalent to the temperature of a thermodynamic system. Therefore, in
analogy to the zero temperature configuration, the description of spacetime in
terms of a differential manifold could be obtained only asymptotically.
Finally, we extend the Verlinde's derivation to a general case, which includes
all possible effects, noncommutativity, ungravity, asymptotically safe gravity,
electrostatic energy, and extra dimensions, showing that the procedure is solid

Standstill Electric Charge Generates Magnetostatic Field Under Born-Infeld Electrodynamics
The Abelian Born-Infeld classical non-linear electrodynamic has been used to
investigate the electric and magnetostatic fields generated by a point-like
electrical charge at rest in an inertial frame. The results show a rich
internal structure for the charge. Analytical solutions have also been found.
Such findings have been interpreted in terms of vacuum polarization and
magnetic-like charges produced by the very high strengths of the electric field
considered. Apparently non-linearity is to be accounted for the emergence of an
anomalous magnetostatic field suggesting a possible connection to that created
by a magnetic dipole composed of two mognetic charges with opposite signals.
Consistently in situations where the Born-Infeld field strength parameter is
free to become infinite, Maxwell`s regime takes over, the magnetic sector
vanishes and the electric field assumes a Coulomb behavior with no trace of a
magnetic component. The connection to other monopole solutions, like Dirac`s,
t' Hooft`s or Poliakov`s types, are also discussed. Finally some speculative

Aspects of Magnetic Field Configurations in Planar Nonlinear Electrodynamics
In the framework of three-dimensional Born-Infeld Electrodynamics, we pursue
an investigation of the consequences of the space-time dimensionality on the
existence of magnetostatic fields generated by electric charges at rest in an
inertial frame, which are present in its four-dimensional version. Our analysis
reveals interesting features of the model. In fact, a magnetostatic field
associated with an electric charge at rest does not appear in this case.
Interestingly, the addition of the topological term (Chern-Simons) to
Born-Infeld Electrodynamics yields the appearance of the magnetostatic field.
We also contemplate the fields associated to the would-be-magnetic monopole in

New Gauge Invariant Formulation of the Chern-Simons Gauge Theory
A new gauge invariant formulation of the relativistic scalar field
interacting with Chern-Simons gauge fields is considered. This formulation is
consistent with the gauge fixed formulation. Furthermore we find that canonical
(Noether) Poincar\'e generators are not gauge invariant even on the constraints
surface and do not satisfy the (classical) Poincar\'e algebra. It is the
improved generators, constructed from the symmetric energy-momentum tensor,
which are (manifestly) gauge invariant and obey the classical Poincar\'e

Energy States of Colored Particle in a Chromomagnetic Field
The unitary transformation, which diagonalizes squared Dirac equation in a
constant chromomagnetic field is found. Applying this transformation, we find
the eigenfunctions of diagonalized Hamiltonian, that describe the states with
definite value of energy and call them energy states. It is pointed out that,
the energy states are determined by the color interaction term of the particle
with the background chromofield and this term is responsible for the splitting
of the energy spectrum.
We construct supercharge operators for the diagonal Hamiltonian, that ensure

Path Integral Approach to Two-Dimensional QCD in the Light-Front
Two-dimensional quantum cromodynamics in the light-front frame is studied
following hamiltonian methods. The theory is quantized using the path integral
formalism and an effective theory similar to the Nambu-Jona Lasinio model is
obtained. Confinement in two dimensions is derived analyzing directly the

The impact of predation by marine mammals on Patagonian toothfish longline fisheries
Predatory interaction of marine mammals with longline fisheries is observed globally, leading to partial or complete loss of the catch and in some parts of the world to considerable financial loss. Depredation can also create additional unrecorded fishing mortality of a stock and has the potential to introduce bias to stock assessments. Here we aim to characterise depredation in the Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) fishery around South Georgia focusing on the spatio-temporal component of these interactions. Antarctic fur seals (Arctocephalus gazella), sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus), and orcas (Orcinus orca) frequently feed on fish hooked on longlines around South Georgia. A third of longlines encounter sperm whales, but loss of catch due to sperm whales is insignificant when compared to that due to orcas, which interact with only 5% of longlines but can take more than half of the catch in some cases. Orca depredation around South Georgia is spatially limited and focused in areas of putative migration routes, and the impact is compounded as a result of the fishery also concentrating in those areas at those times. Understanding the seasonal behaviour of orcas and the spatial and temporal distribution of “depredation hot spots” can reduce marine mammal interactions, will improve assessment and management of the stock and contribute to increased operational efficiency of the fishery.
