What does monogamy in higher powers of a correlation measure mean?
We examine here the proposition that all multiparty quantum states can be
made monogamous by considering positive integral powers of any quantum
correlation measure. With Rajagopal-Rendell quantum deficit as the measure of
quantum correlations for symmetric 3-qubit pure states, we illustrate that
monogamy inequality is satisfied for higher powers of quantum deficit. We
discuss the drawbacks of this inequality in quantification of correlations in
the state. We also prove a monogamy inequality in higher powers of classical
mutual information and bring out the fact that such inequality need not
necessarily imply restricted shareability of correlations. We thus disprove the
utility of higher powers of any correlation measure in establishing monogamous
nature in multiparty quantum states.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, 1 table; comments welcom

Tunability of the spin reorientation transitions with pressure in NdCo5
We present pressure-dependent magnetization measurements carried out in the domain of the spin reorientation transitions (SRTs) of a NdCo5 single crystal. The application of a hydrostatic pressure leads to a shift in the SRTs to higher temperatures. This shift is found to be very sensitive to pressure, with the SRT temperatures increasing at a rate of ≈17 K/GPa. To explain the experimental results, we have also performed first-principles calculations of the SRT temperatures for different applied strains, which corroborate the experimental findings. The calculations attribute the pressure dependence of the SRTs to a faster weakening of the Co contribution to the magnetocrystalline anisotropy with pressure compared to the Nd contribution
Insulator–metal transitions in Pr0.7Ca0.3MnO3 induced by a magnetic field
A magnetic field induced insulator to metal transition has been observed in both polycrystalline and single crystals samples of Pr0.7Ca0.3MnO3. Application of a magnetic field leads to a first-order phase transition from an insulating to a conducting state at low temperatures. The hysteresis associated with this transition allows the resistivity at 4 K to be varied by more than eight orders of magnitude depending on the field history of the sample
Single crystal growth, structure and magnetic properties of Pr2Hf2O7 pyrochlore
Large single crystals of the pyrochlore Pr2Hf2O7 have been successfully grown
by the floating zone technique using an optical furnace equipped with high
power Xenon arc lamps. Structural investigations have been carried out by both
synchrotron X-ray and neutron powder diffraction to establish the
crystallographic structure of the materials produced. The magnetic properties
of the single crystals have been determined for magnetic fields applied along
different crystallographic axes. The results reveal that Pr2Hf2O7 is an
interesting material for further investigations as a frustrated magnet. The
high quality of the crystals produced make them ideal for detailed
investigations, especially those using neutron scattering techniques.Comment: Accepted for publication in J. Phys.: Condens. Matte
Impact of Cyclone Vardha on fishers and their livelihoods
The Vardah Cyclone struck Chennai, Kanchipuram
and Thiruvallur coastal districts of Tamil Nadu on
12th December 2016 and impacted nearly 25000
fisher families. Wind speed of 140 km/hour and tidal
waves inundated the low lying areas of coastal
villages causing very heavy damage
Stakeholders perception of Indo-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement on Indian Fisheries Sector
Exports augment the economy with an increase in international trade, acceleration in output and provide an engine for growth. Free trade agreement (FTA) with huge economies provides ample scope for the integration of trade. In this context, FTA with ASEAN is a big boost for
various sectors of lndian economy. It is a major step in lndias "Look East" policy in reducing its dependence on trade with U.S. and E.U and will strengthen its regional dynamics on trade. The ASEAN-India FTA will see tariff liberalization of over 90 percent of products traded between the two dynamic regions and would eliminate tariffs for about 4000 products (which include electronics, chenlicals, machinery, textiles, agriculture and fisheries) out of which duties for 3200 products will be reduced by December 2013, with brought down to zero or near zero levels by December 2016. This agreement is supposedly believed to have a huge impact on lndian fisheries
sector too.The different stake holders are to perceive differently to the agreements. There are
apprehensions to the primary stakeholders the fishermen that the cheaper imports of local
popular varieties such as sardines, mackerels, other lesser pelagic, cephalopods, crustaceans,
demersal etc. which overlaps with the fish landings will spell doom to fishing communities. On the
other hand the consumers, processors and exporters will be at advantage due to the ready
availability of the fish to suit their taste and preferences and th; capacity utilization of the
processing plants and reaping in on the export economies of the scale. In this context, a detailed
study on the impact of the FTA on lndian fisheries is warranted. This paper critically reviewed and
analysed the perceptions on the impact of ASEAN agreement on the different stakeholders viz.,
fishermen, consumers, exporters, processors, market functionaries and the resources. The study
involved sampling of stakeholders which included 240 consumer respondents, 50 exporters and
processors and 30 markets functionaries in wholesale and retail markets in Cochin. The possible
impact on the primary stakeholders (traditional fishers) was analyzed using a case study approach
based on the possibility of oil sardine imports to lndia by ASEAN countries. The analysis on the
perception of the stakeholders indicated that the exporters / processors, marketers favoured the
agreement in terms of reaping the export economies of scale and timely and incessant availability
of raw materials and processors for the high capacity utilization of processing plants and
economies of scale. The marketers perceived the year round availability and increased quantum
of sale consequent to the agreement. The consumers also approved the agreement on the year
round availability and price stability and affordability in the domestic market. The price analysis
on the comparison of the landing centre price and import price of sardine from ASEAN countries
indicated that the interest of the primary stakeholders are not jeopardized as the domestic landing
centre price is still competitive than the import price from ASEAN countrie
