Evaluation of Mammary Cancer in 7,12-Dimethylbenz(a)anthracene-Induced Wister Rats by Asymmetrical Temperature Distribution Analysis Using Thermography: A Comparison with Serum CEA Levels and Histopathology

Animal surface temperature profile captured using infrared camera is helpful for the assessment of physiological responses associated with the regulation of body temperature. Diagnosing breast cancer in early stage itself has a greater effect on the prognosis. In this work, asymmetrical temperature distribution analysis of chemical carcinogen 7,12-dimethyl benz(a)anthracene-induced in the lower right flank region of Wistar rats (n=6) was carried out to test the potential of thermography in diagnosing mammary cancer and tumor growth over a period of nine weeks in comparison with histopathology results as standard. Temperature difference between the tumor induced lower right and left side of flank region was significant (with P value <0.001), whereas in the abdomen and shoulder there was no significant difference in temperature between right and left sides. Percentage of asymmetrical temperature difference in the tumor induced lower flank region was 0.5 to 2%, whereas in the other regions it was <0.5%. Green pixel distribution in RGB color histogram was asymmetrical in the tumor induced lower flank region. Temperature reduction was observed in the tumor induced region after the seventh day of carcinogen induction. Asymmetrical thermogram analysis is the best method of diagnosing mammary cancer and for studying tumor development

Launching a Neonatal Resuscitation Escape Room to Combat High Infant Mortality Rates in South India: A Quality Improvement Project

Background: In South India, infant mortality rates are high, and nurses require advanced training to respond to infants in fetal distress. Evidence shows that improved nurse competency in neonatal resuscitation and the ability of students to recognize and respond to distressed infants have led to decreased infant mortality rates. Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to design and implement a simulated escape room to improve neonatal resuscitation outcomes among undergraduate students in South India. Methods: A quantitative descriptive design was used. N=310 undergraduate nursing students from six schools in India participated in a simulated neonatal resuscitation (NNR) escape room in a simulation lab in South India, following completion of an asynchronous maternal/fetal nursing course. Results: 77.5% of students completed the neonatal resuscitation steps with minimal assistance, and 95.8% of students reported that the escape room experience helped them develop team-based skills and collaborate positively on a clinical team. Findings: This article provides an overview of the quality improvement project in which an NNR escape room was implemented as an innovative learning activity for nursing students in South India

Pharmacognostical, Phytochemical investigations on whole plant of Cleome chelidonii Linn

Cleome chelidonii Linn. (Family: Capparaceae) is a rare plant grown as perennials throughout dry seasons and widely distributed as a weed in wet places. However, the plant having wide therapeutic properties has not been scientifically validated. In present investigation, the detailed Pharmacognostical study of Cleome chelidonii is carried out to lay down the standards which could be useful in future experimental studies. The study includes macroscopy, microscopy, preliminary phytochemical screening, separation and isolation of plant constituents by chromatographic methods, characterization of isolated plant constituents and fluorescence analysis, elemental analysis and spectral studies. These studies provided referential information for correct identification and standardization of this plant material and to differentiate the plant Cleome chelidonii from other species of Cleome.</jats:p
