KKNT is an academic activity of higher education which is manifested through the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely education and teaching, research, and community service. As in the previous year, for 2023 the UISU Faculty of Engineering dispatched 159 semester VII students to carry out KKNT activities in 13 villages (out of 19 villages/wards) in Kecamatan Air Putih, Kabupaten Batu Bara. This activity lasted for 29 days from July 26 2023 to August 23 2023. The 2023 USU Faculty of Engineering KKNT carries the theme "Utilization of Sustainable Technological Innovation in Building Civilized Villages". Based on the monitoring and evaluation carried out by the KKNT Organizing Team and UISU Faculty of Engineering Leaders, the implementation of the KKNT for 29 days in 13 villages in Kecamatan Air Putih, was generally carried out well and according to plan. This was also confirmed from the remarks of the Camat  Air Putih during the pick-up event for KKNT participants which was held on Tuesday 22 August 2023. The sub-district head said that the presence of students based on information and confirmation from the head and village officials during the implementation of the KKNT was very positive. The presence of students has contributed and added value to the community, business activities (UMKM) and officials in each village. During the implementation of this KKNT, 13 main activities have been made as community service activities, which will be further developed and used for various student activities

Economic growth in Indonesia is influenced by various factors, one of which is the involvement of UMKM. In accordance with the 1945 Constitution article 33 paragraph 4, UMKM are part of the national economy with an independent perspective and have great potential to improve people's welfare. The parties responsible for developing and fostering UMKM are the Government, Business Entities and the community, including Universities. Empowerment of UMKM through the provision of mentoring facilities and strengthening assistance aims to grow and improve the capabilities and competitiveness of these UMKM. One of the Terasi entrepreneurs in Pulau Kampai Village who has been producing terasi for more than 10 years, has marketed his products to various regions in North Sumatra and Aceh as well as other areas. The large demand for terasi  produced makes it unable to supply. This is because the existing machines are used today are small capacity. Therefore, the UISU Faculty of Engineering has provided assistance in the form of terasi processing machine with a larger capacity. It is hoped that with the use of this assistance machine, its production capacity will increase while at the same time being able to meet the ever-increasing demand

Trade liberalization, free trade agreements, and the value of firms: stock market evidence from Singapore

We examine the effects of the United States–Singapore Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on the value of firms listed in the Singapore Exchange using event study analysis. Despite the predictability of the FTA negotiations, we find that one event – the removal of the last obstacle to the free trade deal in January 2003 – increases the value of firms in some industries by 1–11% on average. These results indicate that trade liberalization and FTAs do increase the value of firms.Rasyad A. Parinduri and Shandre M. Thangavel

In this research, waste chicken eggshells and palm oil mill boiler ash were utilized as heterogeneous solid base catalysts in biodiesel synthesis. The utilization of solid waste as a catalyst source can increase economic value and is an environmentally friendly process. This research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of catalyst for biodiesel synthesis using palm oil. Eggshell-nano-CaO was impregnated with various palm ash concentrations (10–50 wt%) and various calcination temperatures (600°C-900 °C), followed by drying and calcination. Biodiesel synthesis using palm oil was conducted at 60 °C, 15:1 methanol ratio, and 500 rpm. It was also conducted with various catalyst concentrations (2–5 wt%) and reaction times (60–180 min). The average particle size of eggshell-nano-CaO is 24.98 nm. At 800 °C, the calcination temperature has the highest surface area of 21.483 m2/g with an average pore size of 5.331 nm and a pore volume of 0.057 cc/g. In addition, catalyst has high basicity, which is 8 mmol/g. The maximum yield of 97% methyl ester content was obtained with 20 wt% palm ash concentration and 800 ᵒC calcination temperature. Heterogeneous catalysts derived from waste chicken eggshells and palm shell ash have high potential as solid-base catalysts in biodiesel synthesis
