Learning and Communication in Sender-Receiver Games: An Econometric Investigation
Learning and communication play important roles in coordinating activities. Game theory and experiments have made a significant contribution to our understanding and appreciation for the issues surrounding learning and communication in coordination. However, the results of past experimental studies provide conflicting results about the performance of learning models. Moreover, the interaction between learning and communication has not been systematically investigated. Our long run objective is to overcome the conflicting results and to provide a better understanding of the interaction. To this end, we econometrically investigate a sender-receiver game environment where communication is necessary for coordination and learning is essential for communication.
Lie algebra and invariant tensor technology for g2
Proceeding in analogy with su(n) work on lambda matrices and f- and
d-tensors, this paper develops the technology of the Lie algebra g2, its seven
dimensional defining representation gamma and the full set of invariant tensors
that arise in relation thereto. A comprehensive listing of identities involving
these tensors is given. This includes identities that depend on use of
characteristic equations, especially for gamma, and a good body of results
involving the quadratic, sextic and (the non-primitivity of) other Casimir
operators of g2.Comment: 29 pages, LaTe
Heat Conduction in One-Dimensional chain of Hard Discs with Substrate Potential
Heat conduction of one-dimensional chain of equivalent rigid particles in the
field of external on-site potential is considered. Zero diameters of the
particles correspond to exactly integrable case with divergent heat conduction
coefficient. By means of simple analytical model it is demonstrated that for
any nonzero particle size the integrability is violated and the heat conduction
coefficient converges. The result of the analytical computation is verified by
means of numerical simulation in a plausible diapason of parameters and good
agreement is observedComment: 14 pages, 7 figure
Symmetry breaking in the self-consistent Kohn-Sham equations
The Kohn-Sham (KS) equations determine, in a self-consistent way, the
particle density of an interacting fermion system at thermal equilibrium. We
consider a situation when the KS equations are known to have a unique solution
at high temperatures and this solution is a uniform particle density. We show
that, at zero temperature, there are stable solutions that are not uniform. We
provide the general principles behind this phenomenon, namely the conditions
when it can be observed and how to construct these non-uniform solutions. Two
concrete examples are provided, including fermions on the sphere which are
shown to crystallize in a structure that resembles the C molecule.Comment: a few typos eliminate
Incorporating remote visits into an outpatient clinic
Copyright @ 2009 Operational Research Society Ltd. This is a post-peer-review, pre-copyedit version of an article published in Journal of Simulation. The definitive publisher-authenticated version Eatock and Eldabi (2009), "Incorporating remote visits into an outpatient clinic", Journal of Simulation, 3, 179–188 is available online at the link below. Most telemedicine studies are concerned with either the technological or diagnostic comparisons, rather than assessing the impact on clinic management. This has attributed to the retrospective nature of the studies, with lack of data being the main cause for not using simulation for prospective analysis. This article demonstrates the use of simulation to assess the impact of prospective systems by utilising data generated from clinical trials. The example used here is the introduction of remote consultations into an outpatient's clinic. The article addresses the issues of using secondary data, in terms of the differences between the trial, the model and future reality. The result of running the simulation model show that exchanging the mode of service delivery does not improve patient wait times as expected, and that a protocol change in association with the introduction of remote visits is necessary to provide a substantial reduction in patient wait times

Gravitational and axial anomalies for generalized Euclidean Taub-NUT metrics
The gravitational anomalies are investigated for generalized Euclidean
Taub-NUT metrics which admit hidden symmetries analogous to the Runge-Lenz
vector of the Kepler-type problem. In order to evaluate the axial anomalies,
the index of the Dirac operator for these metrics with the APS boundary
condition is computed. The role of the Killing-Yano tensors is discussed for
these two types of quantum anomalies.Comment: 23 page
Intriguing Heat Conduction of a Polymer Chain
We study heat conduction in a one-dimensional chain of particles with
longitudinal as well as transverse motions. The particles are connected by
two-dimensional harmonic springs together with bending angle interactions.
Using equilibrium and nonequilibrium molecular dynamics, three types of thermal
conducting behaviors are found: a logarithmic divergence with system sizes for
large transverse coupling, 1/3 power-law at intermediate coupling, and 2/5
power-law at low temperatures and weak coupling. The results are consistent
with a simple mode-coupling analysis of the same model. The 1/3 power-law
divergence should be a generic feature for models with transverse motions.Comment: 4 page
