Kinematics of the outer pseudorings and the spiral structure of the Galaxy
The kinematics of the outer rings and pseudorings is determined by two
processes: the resonance tuning and the gas outflow. The resonance kinematics
is clearly observed in the pure rings, while the kinematics of the gas outflow
is manifested itself in the pseudorings. The direction of systematical motions
in the pure rings depends on the position angle of a point with respect to the
bar major axis and on the class of the outer ring. The direction of the radial
and azimuthal components of the residual velocities of young stars in the
Perseus, Carina, and Sagittarius regions can be explained by the presence of
the outer pseudoring of class R1R2' in the Galaxy. We present models, which
reproduce the directions and values of the residual velocities of
OB-associations in the Perseus and Sagittarius regions, and also model
reproducing the directions of the residual velocities in the Perseus,
Sagittarius, and Carina regions. The kinematics of the Sagittarius region
accurately defines the solar position angle with respect to the bar elongation,

High resolution study of the Lambda p final state interaction in the reaction p + p -> K+ + (Lambda p)
The reaction pp -> K+ + (Lambda p) was measured at Tp=1.953 GeV and Theta = 0
deg with a high missing mass resolution in order to study the Lambda p final
state interaction. The large final state enhancement near the Lambda p
threshold can be described using the standard Jost-function approach. The
singlet and triplet scattering lengths and effective ranges are deduced by
fitting simultaneously the Lambda p invariant mass spectrum and the total cross

Periodic Pattern in the Residual-Velocity Field of OB Associations
An analysis of the residual-velocity field of OB associations within 3 kpc of
the Sun has revealed periodic variations in the radial residual velocities
along the Galactic radius vector with a typical scale length of
lambda=2.0(+/-0.2) kpc and a mean amplitude of fR=7(+/-1) km/s. The fact that
the radial residual velocities of almost all OB-associations in rich
stellar-gas complexes are directed toward the Galactic center suggests that the
solar neighborhood under consideration is within the corotation radius. The
azimuthal-velocity field exhibits a distinct periodic pattern in the region
0<l<180 degrees, where the mean azimuthal-velocity amplitude is ft=6(+/-2)
km/s. There is no periodic pattern of the azimuthal-velocity field in the
region 180<l<360 degrees. The locations of the Cygnus arm, as well as the
Perseus arm, inferred from an analysis of the radial- and azimuthal-velocity
fields coincide. The periodic patterns of the residual-velocity fields of
Cepheids and OB associations share many common features.Comment: 21 page
Upper limits for a narrow resonance in the reaction p + p -> K^+ + (Lambda p)
The reaction pp -> K^+ + (Lambda p) has been measured at T_p = 1.953 GeV and
\Theta = 0 deg with a high missing mass resolution in order to study the Lambda
p final state interaction. Narrow S = -1 resonances predicted by bag model
calculations are not visible in the missing mass spectrum. Small structures
observed in a previous experiment are not confirmed. Upper limits for the
production cross section of a narrow resonance are deduced for missing masses

Measurement of GEp/GMp in ep -> ep to Q2 = 5.6 GeV2
The ratio of the electric and magnetic form factors of the proton, GEp/GMp,
was measured at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab) using
the recoil polarization technique. The ratio of the form factors is directly
proportional to the ratio of the transverse to longitudinal components of the
polarization of the recoil proton in the elastic
reaction. The new data presented in this article span the range 3.5 < Q2 < 5.6
GeV2 and are well described by a linear Q2 fit. Also, the ratio QF2p/F1p

Improving the diagnosis of meningitis due to enterovirus and herpes simplex virus I and II in a tertiary care hospital
Background Enterovirus and herpes simplex viruses are common causes of lymphocytic meningitis. The purpose of this study was to analyse the impact of the use molecular testing for Enteroviruses and Herpes simplex viruses I and II in all suspected cases of viral meningitis.
Methods From November 18, 2008 to November 17, 2009 (phase II, intervention), all patients admitted with suspected viral meningitis (with pleocytosis) had a CSF sample tested using a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT). Data collected during this period were compared to those from the previous one-year period, i.e. November 18, 2007 to November 17, 2008 (phase I, observational), when such tests were available but not routinely used.
Results In total, 2,536 CSF samples were assessed, of which 1,264 were from phase I, and 1,272 from phase II. Of this total, a NAAT for Enterovirus was ordered in 123 cases during phase I (9.7% of the total phase I sample) and in 221 cases in phase II (17.4% of the total phase II sample). From these, Enterovirus was confirmed in 35 (28.5%, 35/123) patients during phase I and 71 (32.1%, 71/221) patients during phase II (p = 0.107). The rate of diagnosis of meningitis by HSV I and II did not differ between the groups (13 patients, 6.5% in phase I and 13, 4.7% in phase II) (p = 1.0), from 200 cases in phase I and 274 cases in phase II.
Conclusions The number of cases diagnosed with enteroviral meningitis increased during the course of this study, leading us to believe that the strategy of performing NAAT for Enterovirus on every CSF sample with pleocytosis is fully justified

Investigations of Few-Nucleon System Dynamics in Medium Energy Domain
Precise and large set of cross sections, vector A ( )x( ), A ( )y( ) and tensor A ( )xx( ), A ( )xy( ), A ( )yy( ) analyzing powers for the (1) H(d, pp)n breakup reactions were measured at 100 and 130 MeV deuteron beam energies with the use of the SALAD and BINA detectors at KVI and Germanium Wall setup at FZ-Jülich. Results are compared with various theoretical approaches which model the three-nucleon (3N) system dynamics. The calculations are based on different two-nucleon (2N) potentials which can be combined with models of the three-nucleon force (3NF) and other pieces of the dynamics can also be included like the Coulomb interaction and relativistic effects. The cross sections data reveal seizable 3NF and Coulomb force influence. In case of analyzing powers very low sensitivity to the effects was found and the data are well describe by 2N models only. At 130 MeV for A ( )xy( ) serious disagreements appear when 3NF models are included into calculations

Confirmation of a Faraday Rotation Measure Anomaly in Cygnus
We confirm the reality of a reversal of the sign of the Faraday Rotation
Measure in the Galactic plane in Cygnus (Lazio et al, 1990), possibly
associated with the Cygnus OB1 association. The rotation measure changes by
several hundred rad/m over an angular scale of . We show that
a simple model of an expanding plasma shell with an enhanced density and
magnetic field, consistent with observations of H emission in this part
of sky, and physically associated with a superbubble of the Cygnus OB1
