The nucleon's strange electromagnetic and scalar matrix elements
Quenched lattice QCD simulations and quenched chiral perturbation theory are
used together for this study of strangeness in the nucleon. Dependences of the
matrix elements on strange quark mass, valence quark mass and momentum transfer
are discussed in both the lattice and chiral frameworks. The combined results
of this study are in good agreement with existing experimental data and
predictions are made for upcoming experiments. Possible future refinements of
the theoretical method are suggested.Comment: 24 pages, 9 figure
Mixing of scalar glueballs and flavour-singlet scalar mesons
We discuss in detail the extraction of hadronic mixing strengths from lattice
studies. We apply this to the mixing of a scalar glueball and a scalar meson in
the quenched approximation. We also measure correlations appropriate for
flavour-singlet scalar mesons using dynamical quark configurations from UKQCD.
This enables us to compare the results from the quenched study of the mixing
with the direct determination of the mixed spectrum. Improved methods of
evaluating the disconnected quark diagrams are also presented.Comment: 23 pages, 5 postscript figure
Flavor Singlet Axial Vector Coupling of the Proton with Dynamical Wilson Fermions
We present the results of a full QCD lattice calculation of the flavor
singlet axial vector coupling of the proton. The simulation has been
carried out on a lattice at with dynamical
Wilson fermions. It turns out that the statistical quality of the connected
contribution to is excellent, whereas the disconnected part is
accessible but suffers from large statistical fluctuations. Using a 1st order

On the low fermionic eigenmode dominance in QCD on the lattice
We demonstrate the utility of a spectral approximation to fermion loop
operators using low-lying eigenmodes of the hermitian Dirac-Wilson matrix, Q.
The investigation is based on a total of 400 full QCD vacuum configurations,
with two degenerate flavors of dynamical Wilson fermions at beta =5.6, at two
different sea quark masses. The spectral approach is highly competitive for
accessing both topological charge and disconnected diagrams, on large lattices
and small quark masses. We propose suitable partial summation techniques that
provide sufficient saturation for estimating Tr Q^{-1}, which is related to the
topological charge. In the effective mass plot of the eta' meson we achieved a
consistent early plateau formation, by ground state projecting the connected

The shape of personal space
The notion of a personal space surrounding one's ego-center is time-honored. However, few attempts have been made to measure the shape of this space. With increasing use of virtual environments, the question has arisen if real-world aspects, such as gender-effects or the shape of personal space, translate to virtual setups. We conducted two experiments, one with real people matched according to body height and level of acquaintance in a large laboratory setting, and one where subjects faced a virtual character, likewise matched to their body height. The first experiment also used a mannequin in place of the second human observer. The second experiment additionally manipulated the perspective of the subject to compare estimates of interpersonal distance between an egocentric and an allocentric perspective (in third-person view). Subjects approached (or were approached) from different angles until a comfortable distance for conversation with a stranger was reached (stop-distance task). Personal space turned out to be rather circular with a radius of about 1 m. Male pairs kept larger distances from one another than female or mixed-gender pairs. All subjects assumed larger distances to the mannequin compared to the real observer. Very comparable distances were preferred to the avatar in the virtual environment. Also, it did not matter whether the subject was engaged in active approach, was approached, or merely adjusted the distance between two avatars. Unravelling legacy: a triadic actor-network theory approach to understanding the outcomes of mega events
Mega events have recently attracted the attention of social scientists due to their important role for festival capitalism, urban regeneration and political propaganda. Their planning stage often produces elaborate strategies for maximising the benefits before, during and after the actual event, which has given rise to interdisciplinary studies of event legacy and leveraging. This paper aims to advance ongoing debates on the outcomes of sports mega events by bringing together the literatures on mega event legacy, leveraging and actor-network theory. Drawing on a case study on the usage of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the main legacy of the London 2012 Olympic Games, the paper develops a novel conceptual framework for researching the multi-scalar outcomes of mega events and locating respective studies within the resulting wider research agenda. The proposed concept extends Preuss’ (2007) legacy cube in two ways by visualising its five research dimensions in the legacy rings and using three rather than two sub-dimensions per ring, thereby replacing the restrictive dyads of dualistic thinking through more comprehensive but still manageable triads of triadic thought (Jöns, 2006)
A Social Disruptiveness-Based Approach to AI Governance: Complementing the Risk-Based Approach of the AI Act
The Pion-Nucleon sigma-Term with Dynamical Wilson Fermions
We calculate connected and disconnected contributions to the flavour singlet
scalar density amplitude of the nucleon in a full QCD lattice simulation with
dynamical Wilson fermions at on a lattice.
We find that both contributions are of similar size at the light quark mass. We
arrive at the estimate MeV. Its smallness is directly
related to the apparent decrease of , quark masses when unquenching QCD
lattice simulations. The parameter can be estimated from a semi-quenched
analysis, in which there are no strange quarks in the sea, the result being

An international clinical study of ability and disability in ADHD using the WHO-ICF framework
This is the fourth and final study designed to develop International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF, and children and youth version, ICF-CY) core sets for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). To investigate aspects of functioning and environment of individuals with ADHD as documented by the ICF-CY in clinical practice settings. An international cross-sectional multi-centre study was applied, involving nine units from eight countries: Denmark, Germany, India, Italy, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Sweden and Taiwan. Clinicians and clinical researchers rated the functioning level of 112 children, adolescents and adults with ADHD using the extended ICF-CY checklist version 2.1a. The ratings were based on a variety of information sources, such as medical records, medical history, clinical observations, clinical questionnaires, psychometric tests and structured interviews with participants and family members. In total, 113 ICF-CY categories were identified, of which 50 were related to the activities and participation, 33 to environmental factors and 30 to body functions. The clinical study also yielded strengths related to ADHD, which included temperament and personality functions and recreation and leisure. The study findings endorse the complex nature of ADHD, as evidenced by the many functional and contextual domains impacted in ADHD. ICF-CY based tools can serve as foundation for capturing various functional profiles and environmental facilitators and barriers. The international nature of the ICF-CY makes it possible to develop user-friendly tools that can be applied globally and in multiple settings, ranging from clinical services and policy-making to education and research
