Statistical properties of acoustic emission signals from metal cutting processes

Acoustic Emission (AE) data from single point turning machining are analysed in this paper in order to gain a greater insight of the signal statistical properties for Tool Condition Monitoring (TCM) applications. A statistical analysis of the time series data amplitude and root mean square (RMS) value at various tool wear levels are performed, �nding that ageing features can be revealed in all cases from the observed experimental histograms. In particular, AE data amplitudes are shown to be distributed with a power-law behaviour above a cross-over value. An analytic model for the RMS values probability density function (pdf) is obtained resorting to the Jaynes' maximum entropy principle (MEp); novel technique of constraining the modelling function under few fractional moments, instead of a greater amount of ordinary moments, leads to well-tailored functions for experimental histograms.Comment: 16 pages, 7 figure

Guerrilla Images: Archeologies, Geographies, Aesthetics of Political Filmmaking and Videoactivism

Cinema and video have always played a fundamental role in the unfolding of collective uprisings: while films have often dramatised the development of various forms of rioting (as in the quintessential Battleship Potëmkin), images have played a variety of roles in more recent forms of revolt. Taking into account a variety of different case studies, this thematic issue aims to outline some lines of research for the study of contemporary uprisings and the role of moving images in this context. Looking at different geographical contexts (from Italy to Cameroon) and considering heterogeneous media devices and languages (from film to amateur digital video), this issue analyses and questions the many ways in which digital images can acquire a political role in the context of a re-appropriation of political space and agency that takes place performatively in the realm of the visual. It considers both a possible archaeology of insurgency and a phenomenology of the visual act performed by insurgents

Manzoni giurisperito e ‘impolitico’. La Storia della Colonna Infame nell’interpretazione di Mino Martinazzoli

Il saggio è dedicato al pamphlet scritto dal politico e giurista Mino Martinazzoli (1931-2011). Basato sulla rielaborazione di alcuni discorsi pronunciati in occasione del bicentenario della nascita di Alessandro Manzoni (1985), il testo contiene un'originale interpretazione della Storia della Colonna Infame. In essa, Martinazzoli analizza l'opera manzoniana dal punto di vista dello stile e della costruzione argomentativa, e ne dimostra la vicinanza a una requisitoria processuale. Il saggio contestualizza il contributo nel dibattito culturale, ideologico e politico degli anni Ottanta ed esamina la tesi interpretativa di Martinazzoli, soffermandosi in particolare sulla sua analisi etico-politica e stilistico-formale.The essay is dedicated to the pamphlet written by the politician and jurist Mino Martinazzoli (1931-2011). Based on the reworking of various speeches made during the bicentenary of Alessandro Manzoni’s birth (1985), the text contains an original interpretation of the Storia della Colonna Infame. In it, Martinazzoli analyses Manzoni’s work from the point of view of style and argument construction, and it demonstrates its proximity to a trial indictment. The essay contextualises the contribution in the cultural, ideological and political debate of the 1980s and examines Martinazzoli’s interpretative thesis, focusing in particular on its ethical-political and stylistic-formal analysis

Presenta la storia editoriale antica e moderna del testo e la sua fortuna nella trattatistica architettonica del primo Rinascimento, mostrando i meriti delle scelte ecdotiche e linguistiche adottate dall'edizione Finoli.The paper retraces the history of the edition of the "Trattato di Architettura" by Antonio Averlino, also known as Filarete, procured by Anna Maria Finoli in 1972, in collaboration with Liliana Grassi. It presents the ancient and modern publishing history of the text and its fortune in architectural treatises in the early Renaissance, showing the merits of the ecdotic and linguistic choices adopted by the Finoli edition

Il saggio presenta l’esperienza dei partigiani cattolici delle Fiamme Verdi bresciane durante la Resistenza, sottolineando come la loro azione unisse impegno militare e ispirazione spirituale. Espressione emblematica di questo “stile” fu la Preghiera del ribelle di Teresio Olivelli, che orientava la lotta verso un ideale cristiano di giustizia e carità. Dalla nascita delle Fiamme Verdi nel 1943, il contributo cattolico si espresse in reti organizzative e azioni militari efficaci, radicate nella solidarietà popolare. Il giornale clandestino il ribelle rappresentò un importante strumento di comunicazione e resistenza civile. L’articolo ricostruisce le principali tappe del movimento, tra repressioni e sacrifici, evidenziando l’originalità e la forza morale di una Resistenza animata da valori religiosi e civili profondamente intrecciati.Although the phrase “rebels for love” may sound rhetorical, it aptly captures the spiritual and moral dimension of Christian-inspired partisans who joined the Italian Resistance. This ideal originated with The Rebel’s Prayer, written by Teresio Olivelli in 1944, which defined an ethical and religious vision of armed struggle rooted in charity and justice. These ideals deeply shaped the Fiamme Verdi, a partisan formation born in Brescia in November 1943, whose members—often former soldiers—combined military discipline with Christian-democratic values. Drawing strength from local Catholic communities, the Fiamme Verdi developed an extensive resistance network across valleys and plains, organizing sabotage, support for fugitives, and cooperation with civilians. Their actions, alongside those of other anti-fascist groups, helped lay the foundations for democratic renewal in postwar Italy
