Effects of stoichiometry, purity, etching and distilling on resistance of MgB2 pellets and wire segments
We present a study of the effects of non-stoichiometry, boron purity, wire
diameter and post-synthesis treatment (etching and Mg distilling) on the
temperature dependent resistance and resistivity of sintered MgB2 pellets and
wire segments. Whereas the residual resistivity ratio (RRR) varies between RRR
\~ 4 to RRR > 20 for different boron purity, it is only moderately affected by
non-stoichiometry (from 20% Mg deficiency to 20% Mg excess) and is apparently
independent of wire diameter and presence of Mg metal traces on the wire
surface. The obtained set of data indicates that RRR values in excess of 20 and
residual resistivities as low as rho{0} ~ 0.4 mu Ohm cm are intrinsic material
properties of high purity MgB2
Effects of Boron Purity, Mg Stoichiometry and Carbon Substitution on Properties of Polycrystalline MgB
By synthesizing MgB using boron of different nominal purity we found
values of the residual resistivity ratio () from 4 to
20, which covers almost all values found in literature. To obtain high values
of , high purity reagents are necessary. With the isotopically pure boron
we obtained the highest 20 for the stoichiometric compound. We also
investigated MgB samples with 0.8 1.2. For the range
MgB up to MgB we found average values

Draft genome sequence of Agrobacterium deltaense strain CNPSo 3391, isolated from a soybean nodule in Mozambique

This isolate carries several coding sequences for stress tolerance, but no identifiable nodulation or virulence genes. Carbon doping of superconducting magnesium diboride
We present details of synthesis optimization and physical properties of
nearly single phase carbon doped MgB2 with a nominal stoichiometry of
Mg(B{0.8}C{0.2})2 synthesized from magnesium and boron carbide (B4C) as
starting materials. The superconducting transition temperature is ~ 22 K (~ 17
K lower than in pure MgB2). The temperature dependence of the upper critical
field is steeper than in pure MgB2 with Hc2(10K) ~ 9 T. Temperature dependent
specific heat data taken in different applied magnetic fields suggest that the
two-gap nature of superconductivity is still preserved for carbon doped MgB2
even with such a heavily suppressed transition temperature. In addition, the
anisotropy ratio of the upper critical field for T/Tc ~ 2/3 is gamma ~ 2. This
value is distinct from 1 (isotropic) and also distinct from 6 (the value found

Electrical resistivity and tunneling anomalies in CeCuAs2
The compound CeCuAs2 is found to exhibit negative temperature (T) coefficient
of electrical resistivity (rho) under ambient pressure conditions in the entire
T-range of investigation (45 mK to 300 K), even in the presence of high
magnetic fields. Preliminary tunneling spectroscopic measurements indicate the
existence of a psuedo-gap at least at low temperatures, thereby implying that
this compound could be classified as a Kondo semi-conductor, though rho(T)

Collaborative dynamic decision making: a case study from B2B supplier selection
The problem of supplier selection can be easily modeled as a multiple-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem: businesses express their preferences with respect to suppliers, which can then be ranked and selected. This approach has two major pitfalls: first, it does not consider a dynamic scenario, in which suppliers and their ratings are constantly changing; second, it only addressed the problem from the point of view of a single business, and cannot be easily applied when considering more than one business. Epidemiological status of bovine brucellosis in the Federal District, Brazil
Realizou-se um estudo para caracterizar a situação epidemiológica da brucelose bovina no Distrito Federal (DF). No total foram amostrados 2.019 animais, provenientes de 278 propriedades. Em cada propriedade visitada aplicou-se um questionário epidemiológico para verificar o tipo de exploração e as práticas de criação e sanitárias que poderiam estar associadas ao risco de infecção pela doença. O protocolo utilizado foi o da triagem com o teste do antígeno acidificado tamponado e a confirmação dos positivos com o teste do 2-mercaptoetanol. O rebanho foi considerado positivo quando pelo menos um animal foi reagente às duas provas sorológicas. A prevalência no DF foi de 2,5% [1,0-5,1%] para propriedades e de 0,16% [0,04-0,28%] para animais. Em razão dos resultados encontrados, que permitem pensar em estratégias de erradicação, recomenda-se que o DF intensifique o diagnóstico de brucelose, tanto na forma de testes sorológicos sistemáticos como pela introdução de mecanismos de detecção rápida em laticínios, em ambos os casos a fim de aumentar o número de propriedades certificadas como livres da doença e melhorar a sensibilidade do sistema de vigilância ativa.A study to characterize the epidemiological status of brucellosis was carried out in the Federal District of Brazil. A total of 2,019 serum samples from 278 herds were collected. In each herd, it was applied an epidemiological questionnaire focused on herd traits as well as husbandry and sanitary practices that could be associated with the risk of infection. The serum samples were screened for antibodies against Brucella spp. by the Rose-Bengal Test (RBT), and all positive sera were re-tested by the 2-mercaptoethanol test (2-ME). The herd was considered positive if at least one animal was positive on both RBT and 2-ME tests. Herd prevalence was estimated as 2.5% [1.0-5.1%] whereas animal prevalence was 0.16% [0.04-0.28%]. Given these results, that may warrant the implementation of eradication strategies, there is a case for intensifying the serological testing in the Federal District, coupled with the introduction of rapid detection methods by the dairy industries, with a view to increasing the number of accredited free herds and improving the sensitivity of the surveillance system..FAPESPCNPqSEAP-DFMAPA Ministério da Agricultura, Pecuária e Abasteciment
Retention of Two-Band Superconductivity in Highly Carbon-Doped MgB2
Tunneling data on MgB_{1.8}C_{0.2} show a reduction in the energy gap of the
pi-bands by a factor of two from undoped MgB2 that is consistent with the Tc
reduction, but inconsistent with the expectations of the dirty limit.
Dirty-limit theory for undoped MgB2 predicts a single gap about three times
larger than measured and a reduced Tc comparable to that measured. Our
heavily-doped samples exhibit a uniform dispersion of C suggestive of
significantly enhanced scattering, and we conclude that the retention of
two-band superconductivity in these samples is caused by a selective

Epidemiological situation of bovine brucellosis in the State of Bahia, Brazil
O trabalho consistiu em estratificar o Estado da Bahia em quatro regiões com características homogêneas (circuitos produtores) para que fossem amostradas aleatoriamente, em cada uma delas, 300 propriedades. Em cada propriedade foram escolhidas, de forma aleatória, 10 a 15 fêmeas bovinas adultas, das quais foi obtida uma amostra de sangue. No total, foram amostrados 10.816 animais, provenientes de 1.413 propriedades. O protocolo de testes utilizado foi o da triagem com o teste do antígeno acidificado tamponado (Rosa Bengala) e a confirmação dos positivos com o teste do 2-mercaptoetanol. O rebanho foi considerado positivo se pelo menos um animal reagiu às duas provas sorológicas. As prevalências de focos e a de fêmeas adultas soropositivas do Estado foram de 4,2% [3,1-5,3%] e 0,66% [0,41-0,93%], respectivamente. Para os circuitos produtores foram: circuito 1, 5,8% [3,6-8,7%] e 0,86% [0,41-1,3%]; circuito 2, 3,1% [1,5-5,6%] e 1,2% [0,25-2,1%]; circuito 3, 6,3% [4,0-9,3%] e 1,7% [0,66-2,7%]; e circuito 4, 0,60% [0,07-2,2%] e 0,07 [0,00-0,21%]. Para a análise de fatores de riscos associados à doença foi aplicado um questionário epidemiológico em cada propriedade visitada. Os fatores de risco (odds ratio, OR) associados à condição de foco foram: compra de reprodutores (OR= 2,27) e presença de áreas alagadiças (OR= 1,76). A vacinação de fêmeas de três até oito meses de idade foi um fator de proteção (OR= 0,53). ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTA study to characterize the epidemiological situation of bovine brucellosis in the State of Bahia was carried out in 2004. The State was divided into four similar production regions, 300 herds were randomly sampled in each region, and 10 to 15 adult bovine females were sampled in each of these herds. The serum samples were screened for antibodies to Brucella spp. by the Rose-Bengal Test (RBT), and all RBT-positive sera were re-tested by the 2-mercaptoethanol test (2-ME) for confirmation. The prevalence of infected herds and seropositive adult bovine females in Bahia State were: 4.2% [3.1-5.3%] and 0.66% [0.41-0.93%], respectively. In the production regions, prevalence of infected herds and animals were, respectively: region 1, 5.8% [3.6-8.7%] and 0.86% [0.41-1.3%]; region 2, 3.1% [1.5-5.6%] and 1.2% [0.25-2.1%]; region 3, 6.3% [4.0-9.3%] and 1.7% [0.66-2.7%]; and region 4, 0.60% [0.07-2.2%] and 0.07%[0.00-0.2%]. In each herd, an epidemiological questionnaire was applied. The risk factors (odds ratio, OR) associated with the presence of the infection were: purchase of breeding animals (OR = 2.27) and presence of flood areas (OR= 1.76). Vaccination of heifers from three to eight months of age was a protective factor (OR=0.53)
