THE WIND DEFLATION FROM SAND AREAS AFFECTED BY ATMOSFERIC DRYNESS: LEU-ROTUNDA AND DĂBULENI FIELDS (OLTENIA PLAIN)
Leu-Rotunda and Dăbuleni Fields are characterized by substantial extension of sandy soils. The sands on the left of Jiu are poli-stratificated fluvial deposits eolian shaped as dunes and interdunes. During the reported period 1980-2007, it was found that the most exposed time of the year to the wind was during the spring, the months of March, April and May as in speed and frequency. According to the analyzed data, the dominant wind direction during spring season on the sandy soils from Dăbuleni is the western, with negative effects on crops who then begin their vegetation cycle. The shelterbelts have decreased, although lately there have been numerous programs which aimed afforestation of affected areas
CLIMATIC DYSFUNCTIONALITIES OBSERVED WITH THE AID OF NDMI AND SAVI INDICES IN THE LEU-ROTUNDA AND DĂBULENI PLAINS
Integrant parts of the Romanați Plain, located in the southern region of the country, in the great Romanian Plain, the Leu-Rotunda and Dăbuleni Plains respectively, are arising big issues regarding the agricultural landscape, mainly due to the climatic failures which affect, in turn, the whole of Romania, but not only. So, according to the De Martonne Aridity Index, the monthly character spanning over a year period recorded at the three stations varied between humid, semi – humid and steppe. With the help of the vegetation differentiation indices calculated based on the Landsat type satellite images, at a 30 m resolution, an attempt in the observation of the existing modifications in this area, which was profoundly affected by the aridity in the 1985-2010 periods, is being made. The NDMI (Normalized Difference Moisture Index) index is expressing the differentiated humidity content at landscape element level, especially regarding soil and vegetation. The SAVI (Soil-Adjusted Vegetation Index) index comes to reduce the effect caused by the soil illumination conditions, these conditions playing a big role in the analyzed area mainly due to the fact that the dominant soil type has a sandy texture
FREQUENCY ANALYSIS OF RAINY AND DROUGHTY MONTH FROM THE CLIMATOLOGICAL POINT OF VIEW IN DOLJ COUNTRY
Nowadays, drought is affecting large areas from the Romanian territory. In the south in the last 30 years, there was a decrease in rainfall and atmospheric drought effect gradually intensifies. Dolj country presents a great vulnerability to drought, identified in annual and monthly level during 1980-2009, with specific methods of standard deviation of precipitation, widely used in specialty literature
The Importance of Remote Sensing in Monitoring Vegetation Parameters in an Area with a Fragile Balance
The purpose of this study is to highlight the state of vegetation cover of a territory with fragile balance (sandy) and to present using the remote sensing techniques the correspondance degree between non-climatic parameters that can be underlined by remote sensing techniques and GIS. The present study is based on previous research in which there were obtained very accurate results
