    Mesoscopic Charge Relaxation

We consider charge relaxation in the mesoscopic equivalent of an RC circuit. For a single-channel, spin-polarized contact, self-consistent scattering theory predicts a universal charge relaxation resistance equal to half a resistance quantum independent of the transmission properties of the contact. This prediction is in good agreement with recent experimental results. We use a tunneling Hamiltonian formalism and show in Hartree-Fock approximation, that at zero temperature the charge relaxation resistance is universal even in the presence of Coulomb blockade effects. We explore departures from universality as a function of temperature and magnetic field.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

Planning of the Agrifood supply chain: a case study for the FVG region

The aim of this paper is to discuss the planning of regional Agri-food supply chain using an integrated database territorial information. The objective is to optimize the chain performance using alternative solutions. Evidences are obtained with a case study performed in FVG region applied to maize-crop. Firstly it is explored the chain network composed by farms, collection points and processing plants; then territorial, agronomic and climate information are integrated to simulate realistic production forecast model applied to maize crop. Finally a program from graph analysis is used to allocate the production through the chain. The economic performance is evaluated using the net revenues varying with the intensification of maize production and adoption of different organization solutions (independent and cooperative). Conclusions are that the chain performance is influenced by a combination of technology and organization decisions and the policy maker can use these results to orient their targets about regional planning.data integration, supply chain, decision support system, crop simulation, regional policy., Agribusiness, Agricultural and Food Policy, Community/Rural/Urban Development, Food Consumption/Nutrition/Food Safety, Labor and Human Capital,

Clustering and classifying images with local and global variability

    Get PDF
A procedure for clustering and classifying images determined by three classification variables is presented. A measure of global variability based on the singular value decomposition of the image matrices, and two average measures of local variability based on spatial correlation and spatial changes. The performance of the procedure is compared using three different databases.Images, Cluster, Classification

    Multivariate extremality measure

    Get PDF
We propose a new multivariate order based on a concept that we will call extremality". Given a unit vector, the extremality allows to measure the "farness" of a point with respect to a data cloud or to a distribution in the vector direction. We establish the most relevant properties of this measure and provide the theoretical basis for its nonparametric estimation. We include two applications in Finance: a multivariate Value at Risk (VaR) with level sets constructed through extremality and a portfolio selection strategy based on the order induced by extremality.Extremality, Oriented cone, Value at risk, Portfolio selection

Topological Vertex, String Amplitudes and Spectral Functions of Hyperbolic Geometry

We discuss the homological aspects of the connection between quantum string generating function and the formal power series associated to the dimensions of chains and homologies of suitable Lie algebras. Our analysis can be considered as a new straightforward application of the machinery of modular forms and spectral functions (with values in the congruence subgroup of SL(2,Z)SL(2,{\mathbb Z})) to the partition functions of Lagrangian branes, refined vertex and open string partition functions, represented by means of formal power series that encode Lie algebra properties. The common feature in our examples lies in the modular properties of the characters of certain representations of the pertinent affine Lie algebras and in the role of Selberg-type spectral functions of an hyperbolic three-geometry associated with qq-series in the computation of the string amplitudes.Comment: Revised version.
