Background: Skin diseases are a serious health concern for children of all ages, and they are linked to a high rate of morbidity. In comparison to adults, children's dermatological problems are more impacted by socioeconomic position, dietary habits, climatic exposure, and the external environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of infestations among pediatric patients who visited the dermatology outpatient department in a tertiary care hospital.

Methods: From December 2019 to September 2020, all newly diagnosed, untreated male and female pediatric patients (from neonates to adolescents of 14 years of age) attending dermatology outpatient department (OPD) were assessed to determine the prevalence of Infestations within the pediatric population. A thorough history was gathered, followed by a meticulous dermatological examination and if indicated, regular investigations were done and were recorded in predesigned performa.

Results: The analysis included 50 patients who had been infested. There were 43 cases (86%) of scabies and 7 cases (14%) of pediculosis capitis.

Conclusions: The infestations in the pediatric age group are associated with a high communicable rate so it’s important to diagnose these conditions early to contain the spread and limit the morbidity.
</jats:p

Background: Acne vulgaris is a common chronic skin disorder that is defined by inflammation of the pilosebaceous units and has a variety of symptoms and treatment options. Acne is very prevalent among teenagers, and it can linger far into adulthood. In this study, the dermatological life quality index was assessed in acne vulgaris patients.

Methods: This is a hospital based prospective cross-sectional questionnaire study done on acne vulgaris patients attending the dermatology outpatient department in a tertiary care hospital in Saurashtra region, Gujarat. Quality of life (QoL) was measured using both acne specific (Cardiff acne disability index (CADI)) questionnaire and skin disease specific (Dermatology life quality index (DLQI)) questionnaire.

Results: In our study, women outweighed men (M:F ratio=1:1.43). Those between the ages of 15 and 20 were the most affected. The average DLQI score was 5.5947. The vast majority had a 'minor impact' on QoL. Females had a lower QoL than males. In general, grade 2 acne was the most common kind of acne. Males were more likely to have grade 3 acne. The majority of the patients (84%) experienced embrassement or heightened self-consciousness as a result of their acne.

Conclusions: Our research reveals that acne has a detrimental influence on QoL, demonstrating the need for a comprehensive approach to treating the body and mind for overall well-being.
</jats:p

Background: The presentation and course of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) may be altered by presence of coexisting HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) status. The purpose of the study was to study the prevalence of HIV in 278 cases of STDs.

Methods: From September 2018 to December 2021, all STDs presented in dermatology outpatient department of a tertiary care center, were assessed to determine the prevalence of HIV. A thorough history was taken along with proper general and cutaneous examination as per predesigned case record proforma.

Results: Prevalence of HIV was observed in 29 (10.43%) out of 278 STD patients, out of which 18 were males and 11 were females with the male:female ratio of 1.63:1. Maximum patients belonged to the age group of 31-40 years (44.72%). Herpes genitalis was the most common STD associated in HIV seropositivity (9.56%).

Conclusions: HIV prevalence in STDs has been showing decreasing trends in our study. In view of this, prevention and control of STDs play an important role in efforts to control HIV infection in India. Hence Focusing on this STD and HIV relationship is of vital importance.
</jats:p
