    Effectivity of ozone water application on the socket after posterior tteeth extraction to accelerate clotting time phase

    After tooth extraction, dentists always place sterile tampons on the extracted socket to stop bleeding, to prevent infection and to reduce patients’ discomfort. Ozone is a biocompatible, bactericidal gas that can accelerate the healing of wounded soft tissue. In addition, it comes up with hemostasis effect to stop bleeding and may accelerate the clotting time and wound healing. Another advantage of ozone therapy is that it can be treated without making any trauma. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effectivity of ozone water application in the socket to accelerate clotting time phase after posterior teeth extraction in 3 minutes, 6 minutes, and 10 minutes. This research was clinical experimental research with post-test only control group design. The research sampling was done through non-probability sampling. Then, sample was divided into two groups, each of which consisted of 15 patients treated with ozone tampons and 15 patients treated with sterile tampons after tooth extraction. Data were analyzed using chi-square test, and results showed a significant difference between the two groups. Ozone tampons show better result in accelerating clotting time after posterior teeth extraction than sterile tampons

    Knowledge of pregnant women about risk factor of cleft lip and palate at Puskesmas Mutiara, Asahan, Indonesia

    Cleft is a congenital abnormal space or gap in the upper lip, alveolus, or palate. This congenital abnormality occurs between the 5th and 10th weeks of pregnancy. Clefts are divided into cleft lip, cleft palate, as well as cleft lip and palate. Cleft lip and palate are caused by the interaction of individual genes with certain environmental factors. Mothers’ knowledge about risk factor of cleft lip and palate may promote better health-related behavior in their pregnancy by increasing the understanding about the risk factor. Unfortunately, until now there is still limited data about this. The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge of pregnant women about risk factor of cleft lip and palate. This was a descriptive study that used the survey method. This study was conducted using a questionnaire distributed to 67 pregnant women (n = 67). The questionnaire consisted of 13 validated questions. The results of this study found that 10.4% of the respondents had good knowledge, 32.8% of the respondents had moderate knowledge and 56.7% of the respondents had poor knowledge. The overall knowledge of the pregnant women about risk factor of cleft lip and palate at Puskesmas Mutiara Asahan fell in the low category

    Background The application of disinfectants on dental instruments is one way to prevent cross-infection. The urgency in this research is ozone water as a disinfectant is still limited and no research has been found on the use of ozone water on tooth extraction instruments. However, ozone has antibacterial properties so researchers are interested in studying the effectiveness of ozone water as a disinfectant when compared to the commonly used 4.8% chloroxylenol. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of disinfection of ozone water and 4.8% chloroxylenol in reducing the number of bacterial colonies on dental extraction instruments at the Universitas Sumatera Utara Dental and Oral Hospital. Methods The samples used were mandibular molar forceps have been used in tooth extraction procedures. This study was experimental and used 30 sample, where each group consisted of 10 tooth extraction instruments. The treatment group used ozone water and 4.8% chloroxylenol and the negative control group was cleaned with distilled water. The ozone water group was produced with an ozone generator with a concentration of 15 mg/L for 20 minutes. Then the active side of tooth extraction forceps was soaked for 30 minutes. In the 4.8% chloroxylenol (dettol®️) group, the active side of the mandibular molar tooth extraction forceps was soaked in 250 mL for 60 minutes. In the control group, the mandibular molar tooth extraction forceps were rinsed with distilled water. After that, the sample was counted using a bactery colony counter. Results The results of the data analysis showed a p-value ≤0.001, which means there was a significant difference in the disinfection using ozone water and 4.8% chloroxylenol on the number of bacterial colonies on dental extraction instruments. Conclusions From this study it can be said that ozone water is more effective in disinfecting than 4.8% chloroxylenol

    The Effect of Black Cumin (<i>Nigella sativa sp.)</i> Gel Extract in Wound Healing Process Post Tooth Extraction

    Objective: This study aims to investigate the effects of black cumin extract (Nigella sativa) on the process of wound healing in tooth extraction sockets. Material and Methods: This study involved 24 patients from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery grouped into the control and treatment groups. After extracting the first or second molar left or right in adult patients, the black cumin extractwas applied to the socket in the treatment group as soon as possible while it was not applied in the control group. The sockets were divided into 1,2,3 groups, which were treated as black cumin extracts of 10%, 12%, and 14% respectively. On day 1,3,7, patients were recalled and sockets size were calculated to analyze wound healing. Results: Black cumin was found to be able to make the wound healing faster in the treatment group when compared to the control group. Although the effect was not immediately apparent on the second day, on the seventh day the group treated with black cumin extract had a smaller sizing average compared to the control group. The concentration of 12% black cumin extract was found to have the best effect on wound healing. Significance of findings: Black cumin extract can make wound healing in tooth extraction sockets in patients.</jats:p
