Establishing a student satisfaction index - A Malaysian case study
The paper provides an insight on student satisfaction in a higher education institution (HEI) within the context of a quasi-government environment. Students’ opinions about factors related to academic life are sought in the form of a satisfaction feedback questionnaire. This survey aims to investigate issues viewed as important to students by seeking their opinion on a number of factors related to teaching, assessment and support provided by the HEI and its courses. A new model that is based on SERVQUAL framework is proposed that suited the quasi-government environment. The case study was conducted at a quasi-government HEI located in Pahang on the East Coast of Malaysia. Based on the results of this comprehensive study, it is clear that many of the physical aspects of the HEI services were viewed as important relating to student satisfaction. Student feedback confirms that they do receive high quality teaching from staff with high levels of expertise in their various academic disciplines. The lecture and tutorial are considered as the core service provided by the HEI. Students are prepared to tolerate largely deficiencies in the physical aspects of the facilities as long as the teaching they receive is perceived to be at the acceptable level. The concept of the service-product bundle is a valid and reliable tool for the design of a satisfaction survey and segments a HEI's service offering in such a way as to allow management to target resources at those areas that are perceived to be low satisfaction and high importance. This research model can be utilized in most HEIs establishments

Optimization of Ply Orientation of Different Composite Materials for Aircraft Wing
The target of this paper is to build up an exact model for ideal plan through outline the structure of wing that consolidate the composite (Skins) and isotropic materials (every single other structure) and contrast this and a similar wing made by changing the materials and the orientation of composite ply in skin.The ideal plan for each wing with various materials and different ply orientation can be obtained by comparing the displacement and stress on the wing. The structural design of the wing is finished with the assistance of CATIA V5, every parts modelled independently and collected in the IGS file. By using the IGS file as geometry, the Finite element modeling is completed in ANSYS and the Static analysis was done using ANSYS. In this analysis, the boundary conditions of inertia force of 1Kg and the lift force is used to simulate the wing loading on the wings. From this study, the Optimum design of the wing was found from the comparisons of stress and displacement of each material and ply combination
Design modification on Indian Road Vehicles to Reduce Aerodynamic Drag
Reducing vehicle fuel consumption has become one of the most important issues in recent years. Aerodynamic drag contributes to 50-60% of fuel consumption in trucks on highways. Vehicle aerodynamic performance is mainly determined by drag coefficient, which directly affects engine requirements and fuel consumption. It\u27s well known that drag changes in a crosswind compared with a condition without a crosswind, and that the change depends on the vehicle shape. Pressure drag, a major drag for trucks as they run at lower speeds is produced by the shape of the object. Therefore, addition of some components can suffice the need. The vehicle has been designed by using Catia and then analysed with CFD. The values are compared and the resultant drag reduction is calculated
Small cell variant of anaplastic large cell lymphoma with positive immunoreactivity for CD99
A 13 year old boy presented with a huge mass on his right arm of 6 months duration. Histopathological examination revealed sheets of malignant small round blue cells with immunopositivity for LCA, CD43, CD45Ro, CD30, EMA, ALK-1 and CD99, and negativity for CD20, TdT, myogenin, myoD1, NSE, bcl-6, bcl-2 and CD10. Fluorescent In-Situ Hybridization (FISH) testing excluded the diagnosis of Ewing's sarcoma/ PNET. Pathologists need to be aware of the diagnosis of a small cell variant of ALCL, as well as of the fact that CD99 expression commonly occurs in cases of ALK-positive ALCL, in order to distinguish this entity from Ewing's sarcoma/PNET
Associations of gestational glycemia and prepregnancy adiposity with offspring growth and adiposity in an Asian population
Background: maternal obesity and hyperglycemia increase risk of obesity and diabetes in offspring later in life.Objective: we examined the relation between gestational glycemia and prepregnancy body mass index (ppBMI) with offspring growth in an Asian mother-offspring cohort.Design: pregnant mothers undertook a 75-g 2-h oral-glucose-tolerance test at 26–28 wk of gestation. In 937 singleton offspring, ?9 serial measurements of weight and length were obtained from birth until 36 mo of age.Results: gestational fasting plasma glucose (FPG) was positively associated with birth weight (B: 0.17; 95% CI: 0.10, 0.24; P < 0.001) and birth BMI (B: 0.15; 95% CI: 0.06, 0.40; P = 0.001) but not at ?3 mo of age. In contrast, maternal ppBMI was positively associated with birth variables and conditional growth in weight and BMI in the first 36 mo of life. However, gestational FPG and prepregnancy obesity status interacted significantly for the association with offspring growth and overweight status in the first 36 mo of life (P-interaction < 0.01). In nonobese mothers, each unit increase in gestational FPG was associated with increased offspring weight (B: 0.08; 95% CI: 0.008, 0.16; P = 0.03) and BMI (B: 0.08; 95% CI: 0.003, 0.15; P = 0.04) as well as increased risk of overweight in the first 36 mo of life (OR: 1.36; 95% CI: 1.10, 1.68). However, in obese mothers, each unit increase in gestational FPG was associated with decreased offspring weight (B: ?0.01; 95% CI: ?0.02, ?0.003) and BMI (B: ?0.008; 95% CI: ?0.01, ?0.002) velocity (P < 0.01 for both) and decreased risk of overweight (OR: 0.59; 95% CI: 0.41, 0.86) in the first 36 mo of life.Conclusions: prepregnancy adiposity was associated with offspring growth in early childhood. Although pooled analyses showed no demonstrable difference by 3 mo of age, there were contrasting and opposite associations of gestational glycemia with weight and BMI in the first 36 mo of life in offspring of nonobese and obese mothers separately. The bacterial envelope is the interface with the surrounding environment and is consequently subjected to a barrage of noxious agents including a range of compounds with antimicrobial activity. The ESR (envelope stress response) pathways of enteric bacteria are critical for maintenance of the envelope against these antimicrobial agents. In the present study, we demonstrate that the periplasmic protein ZraP contributes to envelope homoeostasis and assign both chaperone and regulatory function to ZraP from Salmonella Typhimurium. The ZraP chaperone mechanism is catalytic and independent of ATP; the chaperone activity is dependent on the presence of zinc, which is shown to be responsible for the stabilization of an oligomeric ZraP complex. Furthermore, ZraP can act to repress the two-component regulatory system ZraSR, which itself is responsive to zinc concentrations. Through structural homology, ZraP is a member of the bacterial CpxP family of periplasmic proteins, which also consists of CpxP and Spy. We demonstrate environmental co-expression of the CpxP family and identify an important role for these proteins in Salmonella's defence against the cationic antimicrobial peptide polymyxin B

HOPX functions as a tumour suppressor in head and neck cancer.
Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is generalized term that encompasses a diverse group of cancers that includes tumours of the oral cavity (OSCC), oropharynx (OPSCC) and nasopharynx (NPC). Genetic alterations that are common to all HNSCC types are likely to be important for squamous carcinogenesis. In this study, we have investigated the role of the homeodomain-only homeobox gene, HOPX, in the pathogenesis of HNSCC. We show that HOPX mRNA levels are reduced in OSCC and NPC cell lines and tissues and there is a general reduction of HOPX protein expression in these tumours and OPSCCs. HOPX promoter methylation was observed in a subset of HNSCCs and was associated with a worse overall survival in HPV negative tumours. RNAseq analysis of OSCC cells transfected with HOPX revealed a widespread deregulation of the transcription of genes related to epithelial homeostasis and ectopic over-expression of HOPX in OSCC and NPC cells inhibited cell proliferation, plating efficiency and migration, and enhanced sensitivity to UVA-induced apoptosis. Our results demonstrate that HOPX functions as a tumour suppressor in HNSCC and suggest a central role for HOPX in suppressing epithelial carcinogenesis
