Magnetic Monopoles in non-compact QED - is there a Phase Transition?
The existence of the monopole condensation transition reported by
Kocic et al. in non-compact, quenched QED is tested. No phase transition is
found. This shows that divergence of the `monopole susceptibility' introduced
by Hands and Wensley is not a reliable indicator of second order phase
transitions. In view of these results
I discuss claims that the chiral phase transition seen in QED with fermions
is a lattice artefact driven by monopole condensation.Comment: Talk given at lattice '92, 4 pages, uses espcrc2.sty, 2 postscript

Stochastic Perturbation Theory and the Gluon Condensate
On the lattice searching for the gluon condensate is difficult because a
large perturbative contribution to the expectation value of the action has to
be subtracted before looking for a small contribution from a possible gluon
condensate. The perturbative calculation therefore has to be very precise. We
use a modified version of stochastic perturbation theory to calculate a
perturbative series in a boosted coupling, which converges more rapidly than
the series with the usual lattice coupling, reducing the uncertainties in our
results. We do not see any condensate of dimension two, as suggested by some
earlier lattice studies, but we do find a contribution from a dimension four
condensate. The value of this condensate is approximately 0.04(1) GeV^4, but
with large uncertainties.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, contribution to Lattice2005(Theoretical

Fluorine disposal
A preliminary design of an F2 dispoal system for HELSTF is presented along with recommendations on operational policy and identification of potential operational problems. The analysis is based on sizing a system to handle two different modes of the HELSTF Fluorine Flow System (one operational and one catastrophic). This information should serve both as a guide to a final detailed design for HELSTF as well as a reference for subsequent monitoring and/or modification of the system which consists of a charcoal reactor followed by a dry soda lime scrubber
Sparger system for MMH-helium vents
Based on a calculated vent flow rate and MMH concentration, a TI-59 program was run to determine total sparger hole area for a given sparger inlet pressure. Hole diameter is determined from a mass transfer analysis in the holding tank to achieve complete capture of MMH. In addition, based on oxidation kinetics and vapor pressure data, MMh atmospheric concentrations are determined 2 ft above the holding tank
