Street art in urbe. Arte urbana nelle periferie romane
Rome in the past was the undisputed cradle of the arts, the imperative destination of the eighteenth-century grand tourists for its constant combination of old and new, humble and magnificent, forgotten and alive that made it unique in its picturesque being, as the Englishmen called it. Recently, Rome is playing once again that key role in the 21st century world. The scenario is mostly regarding the Roman suburbs, borderline not only geographically, but also culturally and socially, where external ugliness is often due to an original lack of aesthetic design or frequently subjects to carelessness and degradation. On this type of urban contest many street artists are involved with their works, directly in contact with the territory and its inhabitants. In this essay the focus is on the connection born from the involvement of artists and citizens, which leads to a legal, programmatic and connected artistic production. So, Art becomes a means of communication in places that are often voiceless and, at the same time, it always performs its function: trough the Beauty, Art re-qualifies and educates and in the meantime interacts with the various components of society, stimulating knowledge and civic sense of common good
Mismatch in the Classification of Linear Subspaces: Sufficient Conditions for Reliable Classification
This paper considers the classification of linear subspaces with mismatched
classifiers. In particular, we assume a model where one observes signals in the
presence of isotropic Gaussian noise and the distribution of the signals
conditioned on a given class is Gaussian with a zero mean and a low-rank
covariance matrix. We also assume that the classifier knows only a mismatched
version of the parameters of input distribution in lieu of the true parameters.
By constructing an asymptotic low-noise expansion of an upper bound to the
error probability of such a mismatched classifier, we provide sufficient
conditions for reliable classification in the low-noise regime that are able to
sharply predict the absence of a classification error floor. Such conditions
are a function of the geometry of the true signal distribution, the geometry of
the mismatched signal distributions as well as the interplay between such
geometries, namely, the principal angles and the overlap between the true and
the mismatched signal subspaces. Numerical results demonstrate that our
conditions for reliable classification can sharply predict the behavior of a
mismatched classifier both with synthetic data and in a motion segmentation and
a hand-written digit classification applications.Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures, submitted to IEEE Transactions on Signal

Compressive Classification
This paper derives fundamental limits associated with compressive
classification of Gaussian mixture source models. In particular, we offer an
asymptotic characterization of the behavior of the (upper bound to the)
misclassification probability associated with the optimal Maximum-A-Posteriori
(MAP) classifier that depends on quantities that are dual to the concepts of
diversity gain and coding gain in multi-antenna communications. The diversity,
which is shown to determine the rate at which the probability of
misclassification decays in the low noise regime, is shown to depend on the
geometry of the source, the geometry of the measurement system and their
interplay. The measurement gain, which represents the counterpart of the coding
gain, is also shown to depend on geometrical quantities. It is argued that the
diversity order and the measurement gain also offer an optimization criterion
to perform dictionary learning for compressive classification applications.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, submitted to the 2013 IEEE International

Thermomechanical testing under operating conditions of A516Gr70 used for CSP storage tanks
Thermal energy storage (TES) in molten salts is the storage dominating technology in solar power applications today. In two-tank molten salt storage systems energy density ranges from 30 to 70 kW h/m3 are achievable. The salt material used is a binary system, composed of 60% NaNO3 and 40% KNO3. In the 8 MWhth pilot plant built and tested by Abengoa, the storage tanks were made of steel A516Gr.70 using the Appendix M of code API 650 for their design. A specific testing device was developed to evaluate thermo-mechanical properties, and a study was conducted in order to evaluate tensile properties of A516Gr.70 specimens under operation conditions for the hot tank at the pilot plant that is in contact with molten salts at 380 °C. Results confirmed the outcomes of the work: the reduction of the yield limit, elongation before fracture, and Young modulus at 380 °C after having been 5 min immersed in molten salts. Moreover, after a creep-test simulating operating 7 days conditions during, an additional reduction of the yield limit was measured. The research leading to these results has received funding from Spanish government (Fondo tecnológico IDI-20090393, ConSOLida CENIT 2008-1005). The economics of dual job holding: a job portfolio model of labor supply
In this paper we develop a job portfolio model of dual job holding based on a Stone-Geary utility function. We derive the associated Slutsky equation components. Because the job portfolio model applies only to unconstrained dual jobholders, we separate individuals who moonlight because of an hours constraint from dual jobholders who work on two job for reasons different from an hours constraint. Income and wage elasticities are estimated for workers without hours constraints using data from the May 1991 supplement to the Current Population Survey. Our study finds that the income and compensated wage elasticities are much larger for labor supply to job 2 compared with job 1
Effects of Methotrexate on IL-6alphar, VCAM-1 and NF Kappa B Expression in a Rat Model of Metabolic Syndrome
Background: In this study, we used Methotrexate (Mtx) to examine the role of immunomodulation on the activation of IL-6 and VCAM-1, which could generate a microenvironment that supports cardiovascular remodelling. Methods: Male WKY and SHR rats were separated into five groups: Control, FFR: WKY rats receiving a 10% (w/v) fructose solution during all 12 weeks, SHR, FFHR: SHR receiving a 10% (w/v) fructose solution during all 12 weeks and FFHR+Mtx (0,3 mg/kg intraperitoneal one injection per day week for 6 weeks) (n = 8 per group). Metabolic variables and systolic blood pressure were measured. Cardiac and vascular remodelling was also evaluated. To assess this, IL-6R and VCAM-1 immunostaining techniques were used. Results: The FFHR experimental model developed metabolic syndrome, vascular and cardiac remodelling, and vascular inflammation because of increased expression of IL-6 and VCAM-1. Chronic treatment with Mtx completely or partiality reversed the variables studied. Conclusions: The results demonstrated an impact on immunomodulation after mtx treatment, which included a reduction in vascular inflammation and a favourable reduction in metabolic and structural parameters.Fil: Renna, Nicolas Federico.
