Slut shaming, girl power and sexualisation : Thinking through the politics of the international SlutWalks with teen girls
This viewpoint begins by exploring whether the global phenomenon of the 2011 ‘SlutWalks’ constitutes a feminist politics of re-signification. We then look at some qualitative, focus group data with teen girls who participated in a UK SlutWalk. We suggest girls are not only negotiating a schizoid double pull towards performing knowing sexy ‘slut’ in postfeminist media contexts, but also managing de-sexualising protectionist discourses in school, particularly in relation to the highly regulatory moral panic over child ‘sexualistion’. We consider whether the SlutWalks are adult-centric and if teen girls’ involvement in a SlutWalk offered any critical rupturings to sexual regulation in their everyday lives
Schizoid subjectivities? : Re-theorizing teen girls’ sexual cultures in an era of ‘sexualization’
Drawing on three case studies from two UK ethnographic research projects in urban and rural working-class communities, this article explores young teen girls’ negotiation of increasingly sex-saturated societies and cultures. Our analysis complicates contemporary debates around the ‘sexualization’ moral panic by troubling developmental and classed accounts of age-appropriate (hetero)sexuality. We explore how girls are regulated by, yet rework and resist expectations to perform as agentic sexual subjects across a range of spaces (e.g. streets, schools, homes, cyberspace). To conceptualize the blurring of generational and sexual binaries present in our data, we develop Deleuzian notions of ‘becomings’, ‘assemblages’ and ‘schizoid subjectivities’. These concepts help us to map the anti-linear transitions and contradictory performances of young femininity as always in-movement; where girls negotiate discourses of sexual knowingness and innocence, often simultaneously, yet always within a wider context of socio-cultural gendered/classed regulations
'Feel what I feel': making da(r)ta with teen girls for creative activisms on how sexual violence matters
Inspired by feminist new materialist and posthuman activist philosophy, this paper speculates on what happens when data entangles with arts-based methodologies in a school-based participatory activist project with six teen girls (age 15) on gender-based and sexual violence. Mapping the journey of how data become da(r)ta and how da(r)ta become d/artaphacts, the paper follows how the Runway of Disrespect, the Shame Chain, the Ruler-Skirt and the Tagged Heart ripple through peer cultures, school assemblies and national policy landscapes. Each journey provides a small glimpse into how bodies, space, objects, affects and discourse ‘intra-act’ (Barad 2007) in dynamic assemblages to produce d/artaphacts crafted from and carrying experience. The paper concludes to consider the ethical-political affordances of how participatory arts-based methodologies and the im/personal vitality of objects (Bennett 2010) might support young people to safely and creatively communicate and potentially transform oppressive sexual cultures and practices

The employer's dilemma: Employer engagement and progress in vocational education and training reforms
Employer engagement is a critical part of vocational education and training (VET). However, we know little about forms of employer engagement in the implementation of VET reforms. Employers can be advisors, or can be given roles and responsibilities throughout the cycle of VET processes: helping design curricula, providing workplace training during VET application, and providing feedback or initiating updates. The latter approach asks much more, but the former creates a prisoner's dilemma where participating firms risk losing their investment to poaching from refraining firms. In the higher-engagement model, employers coordinate with other companies in their sectors and invest, then have the opportunity to earn returns-often during the training period. We follow eight international VET reforms through their first year. We find that cases where employers are highly engaged make more progress, excepting powerful top-down reforms. High employer engagement seems riskier because of the greater investment by firms, but the returns it generates lets high-engagement reforms sidestep the prisoner's dilemma and improve implementation progress
First-Principles Calculation of Electric Field Gradients and Hyperfine Couplings in YBa2Cu3O7
The local electronic structure of YBa2Cu3O7 has been calculated using
first-principles cluster methods. Several clusters embedded in an appropriate
background potential have been investigated. The electric field gradients at
the copper and oxygen sites are determined and compared to previous theoretical
calculations and experiments. Spin polarized calculations with different spin
multiplicities have enabled a detailed study of the spin density distribution
to be made and a simultaneous determination of magnetic hyperfine coupling
parameters. The contributions from on-site and transferred hyperfine fields
have been disentangled with the conclusion that the transferred spin densities
essentially are due to nearest neighbour copper ions only with marginal
influence of ions further away. This implies that the variant temperature
dependencies of the planar copper and oxygen NMR spin-lattice relaxation rates
are only compatible with commensurate antiferromagnetic correlations. The
theoretical hyperfine parameters are compared with those derived from
experimental data.Comment: 14 pages, 12 figures, accepted to appear in EPJ
Description of the subject: In the female population worldwide, breast cancer shows by far the largest incidence of all entities. In various cases, a side effect of the dise-ase or its treatment is depression. Depression can be mitigated by an active lifestyle.
Purpose: The aim of this paper is to present the effects of a combined resistance and endurance training, yoga and walking intervention on depression in female breast cancer patients during or after chemo-/radiotherapy. Furthermore, one intervention is recommended for practical implementation.
Methods: To acquire the current state of knowledge, a systematic literature research on different health-related databases was conducted. For each intervention, 2 studies were selected and consequently assessed by use of the „Arbeitsinstrument für ein Critical Appraisal (AICA)“ by Ris and Preusse-Bleuler (2015). Additionally, the studies were evaluated through a point system developed by the authors of this paper and subsequently discussed.
Results: After a combined resistance and endurance training, a significant improvement in depression was demonstrated, especially in patients with a clinical depression at baseline. Yoga showed a preventive effect as it averted the deterioration of depressive symptoms. A sole walking intervention revealed no significant effect on depression. However, in combination with muscle relaxation, a significant alleviation of the symptoms was achieved.
Conclusion: Due to the convincing results, a combined resistance and endurance training is recommended to be implemented in clinical practice
