About Detecting CP-Violating Processes in J/\psi\to \KzKzb Decay

Questions about detecting CP-violating decay process of J/ψK0Kˉ0KSKSJ/\psi\to K^0\bar{K}^0\to K_SK_S are discussed. Possible background and material regeneration effect are analyzed. The discussion can be directly extended to other vector quarkonium decays, like Υ\Upsilon, ψ(2S)\psi (2S) and ϕKSKS\phi\to K_S K_S.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, Late

Commentary : missing targets on drugs-related deaths, and a Scottish paradox

    Get PDF
The 10-year drug strategy for England and Wales was published in February 2008. It dropped drugs-related deaths (DRDs) as a key performance indicator. Scotland retained a necessary strong focus on DRDs. Scotland's DRDs numbered 1006 in 2000–02 and 1009 in 2003–05. The previous Scottish administration's claim that its number of current injectors had decreased substantially between 2000 and 2003 implied, paradoxically, that their DRD rate would have to have increased. Worse was to come: Scotland's DRDs had increased to 876 in 2006 + 2007. We analyse UK's DRDs by sex and age-group to reveal temporal trends (2000–02 versus 2003–05 versus 2006 + 2007) with different public health and epidemiological implications. We also address the above Scottish paradox and assess, by age-group, how consistent Scotland's 876 DRDs in 2006 + 2007 are with Scottish injectors’ DRD rate in 2003–05 of around 1 per 100 injector-years. Public health success in the UK in reducing DRDs at younger ages should not be overshadowed by the late consequence in terms of older-age DRDs of UK's injector epidemics; in the early 1980s in Scotland, and late 1980s in England and Wales. Targets for reducing DRDs should pay heed to UK's injector epidemics

Study of pollution in the El Jadida-Safi Atlantic coastal zone (Morocco) by using PIXE and SSNTD methods

In this work PIXE experiments were performed for measuring heavy and light elements (ranging from aluminium to lead) concentrations inside various polluted and unpolluted soils as well as liquid samples collected from different phosphate factory sewers in the El Jadida-Safi Atlantic coastal region (Morocco). In addition, uranium (238U) and thorium (232Th) contents were evaluated in the same samples studied by using CR-39 and LR-115 type II solid state nuclear track detectors (SSNTDs). The influence of the phosphate industry wastes on the concentrations of both radioactive and non-radioactive elements of the samples studied was investigated

    ICTV Virus Taxonomy Profile: Chrysoviridae

Members of the family Chrysoviridae are isometric, non-enveloped viruses with segmented, linear, dsRNA genomes. There are 3–7 genomic segments, each of which is individually encapsidated. Chrysoviruses infect fungi, plants and possibly insects, and may cause hypovirulence in their fungal hosts. Chrysoviruses have no known vectors and lack an extracellular phase to their replication cycle; they are transmitted via intracellular routes within an individual during hyphal growth, in asexual or sexual spores, or between individuals via hyphal anastomosis. This is a summary of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) Report on the taxonomy of the family Chrysoviridae, which is available at ictv.global/report/chrysoviridae.Peer reviewe
