Towards AC-induced optimum control of dynamical localization

It is shown that optimum control of dynamical localization (quantum suppression of classical diffusion) in the context of ultracold atoms in periodically shaken optical lattices subjected to time-periodic forces having equidistant zeros depends on the \textit{impulse} transmitted by the external force over half-period rather than on the force amplitude. This result provides a useful principle for optimally controlling dynamical localization in general periodic systems, which is capable of experimental realization.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure

    Hexagonal Tilings: Tutte Uniqueness

We develop the necessary machinery in order to prove that hexagonal tilings are uniquely determined by their Tutte polynomial, showing as an example how to apply this technique to the toroidal hexagonal tiling.Comment: 12 figure

Testing differences in long run growth among Spanish regions: Can growth models explain it?

    Get PDF
During the last decade we have assisted to a renewal interest in growth. There were a great number of theoretical and empirical works since the question was reopen by the Romer (1986) article about long run properties of growth models. Growth models can be classified in two kinds: exogenous growth models and endogenous growth models. The main differences between them are that the endogenous models try to incorporate into the behavior of the agents the assumptions that the first assumes as exogenous. This difference, that sounds only methodological, has important implications. The conclusion of the exogenous models is that, in presence of free factor mobility and free diffusion of technology, countries and regions will converge to the same rate of growth, and, in absence of technical progress, they will converge to the same level of per capita income, without any influence of initial conditions or political intervention in the economy (This result is obtained by Barro(1991) and Barro y Sala(1992)). With endogenous models the economies will growth at a rate determined by the behavior of the agents in the economy and could be the same or different among different economies. The theoretical result of these models is that in the long run could exist convergence or divergence. The main focus of this paper is, using the data for Spanish Regions from 1955 to 1991 and applying unit root time series methodology, to determine long run growth rates for each region with the aim of knowing if we can choose between the two kind of growth models.

= The media, in its dual role as information diffuser and opinion creator, largely explain public comprehension and perception of genetic research. And that is not all; the media have influenced the development of this scientific field (development of a legal framework, investment planning, ethical approaches, etc.). In these pages, the author analyzes some of the circumstances and tendencies that have marked the progression of the public representation of genetics, especially in the last two decades in the light of the media. This is the telling of a story that so far has culminated with political and scientific announcements regarding the draft of the human genome, a story with an intense end that provides numerous details proving the influence of the media in the development of science itself

Hexagonal Tilings and Locally C6 Graphs

We give a complete classification of hexagonal tilings and locally C6 graphs, by showing that each of them has a natural embedding in the torus or in the Klein bottle. We also show that locally grid graphs are minors of hexagonal tilings (and by duality of locally C6 graphs) by contraction of a perfect matching and deletion of the resulting parallel edges, in a form suitable for the study of their Tutte uniqueness.Comment: 14 figure

Contributions of the alternative school to social and environmental justice

The three alternative schools analysed for this research through ethnographic and biographic-narrative approaches emerged as an answer to failure and other injustices occurring in traditional schools (violence, exclusion, authoritarianism, cultural imperialism, unsustainability, etc.). This allows us to analyse how a model against the legitimation and perpetuation of these social and environmental injustices is constructed. Results show us how to organise a school which recognises each person, allows participation, distributes resources equally and trains students who can detect injustices and mobilise against them. The conclusions call into question the efficiency of traditional schools in terms of values, peace, respect, coexistence and participation, and let us envisage another model which makes the most of a free, democratic and libertarian education to reach the so urgent and necessary social and environmental transformatio

A discussion on the validation tests employed to compare human action recognition methods using the MSR Action3D dataset

    Get PDF
This paper aims to determine which is the best human action recognition method based on features extracted from RGB-D devices, such as the Microsoft Kinect. A review of all the papers that make reference to MSR Action3D, the most used dataset that includes depth information acquired from a RGB-D device, has been performed. We found that the validation method used by each work differs from the others. So, a direct comparison among works cannot be made. However, almost all the works present their results comparing them without taking into account this issue. Therefore, we present different rankings according to the methodology used for the validation in orden to clarify the existing confusion.Comment: 16 pages and 7 table
