Regionalização como estratégia para a definição de políticas públicas de controle de homicídios Regionalization as a strategy for the definition of homicide-control public policies
Neste artigo, analisamos a distribuição espacial das taxas de homicídios no Estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil, utilizando dados do Sistema de Informações de Mortalidade do Ministério da Saúde (SIM-MS), no período de 1996 a 2000. Os dados populacionais utilizados para o cálculo das taxas também foram obtidos através do MS. Diante da grande extensão territorial do Estado, utilizamos uma metodologia estatística desenvolvida recentemente, implementada no programa SKATER, para a geração de conglomerados espaciais homogêneos. Como resultado, obtivemos 24 conglomerados espaciais, nos quais os municípios semelhantes em relação às taxas de homicídios ficaram agrupados. A partir desses resultados, discutimos a possibilidade da criação de "Núcleos de Gerenciamento em Segurança Pública", que permitiriam a implementação de políticas públicas voltadas para o controle e a diminuição de homicídios em cidades com características semelhantes no que diz respeito a esse tipo de crime.<br>This article analyzes the spatial distribution of homicide rates in Minas Gerais State, Brazil, using data from the Ministry of Health Mortality Information System (SIM/MS) from 1996 to 2000. Population data used to calculate rates were also obtained from the Brazilian Ministry of Health. Minas Gerais has a large territory, so the study used a recently developed statistical methodology implemented in the SKATER software to generate homogeneous spatial clusters. The technique obtained 24 spatial clusters, in which municipalities with similar homicide rates were aggregated. Using these results, the authors discuss the possible creation of "public security administration areas" that would allow the implementation of public policies aimed at controlling and diminishing homicides in municipalities with similar characteristics for this type of crime
Potencial evocado auditivo de tronco encefálico por via óssea em indivíduos com perda auditiva sensorioneural Brainstem auditory evoked potential in subjects with sensorineural hearing losses
OBJETIVO: caracterizar os resultados do PEATE por via óssea em indivíduos com perda auditiva sensorioneural leve, comparando esses dados com o grupo controle, formado por indivíduos audiologicamente normais. MÉTODO: a amostra foi constituída por 40 adultos, de ambos os sexos, com faixa etária de 18 a 55 anos, distribuídos em um grupo controle de 30 indivíduos com audição normal e um grupo estudo composto de 10 indivíduos com perda auditiva sensorioneural de grau leve. O PEATE foi realizado com equipamento EP15, da marca Interacoustics. O estímulo utilizado foi o clique com taxa de apresentação de 27,7/s, em um total de 2000 estímulos, com polaridade de rarefação por VA e alternada para VO e filtro passa-banda de 50Hz e 3000Hz. RESULTADOS: em indivíduos com perda sensorioneural de grau leve, não houve diferenças estatisticamente significantes entre o limiar do PEATE por via aérea e óssea, estando esses limiares equivalentes, com GAP aéreo-ósseo menor que 10dB. A latência da onda V no limiar eletrofisiológico e a 50 dBnNA foram menores que as referidas latências observadas em indivíduos com audição normal. CONCLUSÃO: foram encontrados limiares eletrofisiológicos por via óssea equivalente aos limiares obtidos por via aérea, com presença de GAP aéreo-ósseo menor que 10dBnNA. Assim a utilização do PEATE por VO fornece dados para uma caracterização mais detalhada do tipo da perda auditiva.<br>PURPOSE: to characterize the results of ABR via bone in subjects with mild sensorineural hearing loss, comparing these data with the control group made up by subjects with normal hearing. METHOD: the sample consisted of 40 adults of both genders, 18 - 55 year old, divided into a control group of 30 subjects with normal hearing and a study group made up of 10 subjects with mild sensorineural hearing loss. ABR was carried out with Interacoustics brand EP15. The stimulus was the click presentation rate of 27.7 / s, for a total of 2000 stimuli with rarefaction polarity for AC and switched to VO and band-pass filter of 50Hz and 3000Hz. RESULTS: in subjects with mild sensorineural loss, there were no statistically significant differences between the ABR threshold via air and bone, and those thresholds were equivalent, with air-bone gap of less than 10dB. The latencies of wave V in the electrophysiological threshold and 50 dBnNA were lower latencies than those noted in subjects with normal hearing. CONCLUSION: we found electrophysiological thresholds via bone equivalent to thresholds obtained via air, with the presence of air-bone gap being less than 10dBnNA. Thus, the use of VO by ABR provides data for a more-detailed characterization of the type of hearing loss

Metagenome, metatranscriptome, and metaproteome approaches unraveled compositions and functional relationships of microbial communities residing in biogas plants
The production of biogas by anaerobic digestion (AD) of agricultural residues, organic wastes, animal excrements, municipal sludge, and energy crops has a firm place in sustainable energy production and bio-economy strategies. Focusing on the microbial community involved in biomass conversion offers the opportunity to control and engineer the biogas process with the objective to optimize its efficiency. Taxonomic profiling of biogas producing communities by means of high-throughput 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing provided high-resolution insights into bacterial and archaeal structures of AD assemblages and their linkages to fed substrates and process parameters. Commonly, the bacterial phyla Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes appeared to dominate biogas communities in varying abundances depending on the apparent process conditions. Regarding the community of methanogenic Archaea, their diversity was mainly affected by the nature and composition of the substrates, availability of nutrients and ammonium/ammonia contents, but not by the temperature. It also appeared that a high proportion of 16S rRNA sequences can only be classified on higher taxonomic ranks indicating that many community members and their participation in AD within functional networks are still unknown. Although cultivation-based approaches to isolate microorganisms from biogas fermentation samples yielded hundreds of novel species and strains, this approach intrinsically is limited to the cultivable fraction of the community. To obtain genome sequence information of non-cultivable biogas community members, metagenome sequencing including assembly and binning strategies was highly valuable. Corresponding research has led to the compilation of hundreds of metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) frequently representing novel taxa whose metabolism and lifestyle could be reconstructed based on nucleotide sequence information. In contrast to metagenome analyses revealing the genetic potential of microbial communities, metatranscriptome sequencing provided insights into the metabolically active community. Taking advantage of genome sequence information, transcriptional activities were evaluated considering the microorganism’s genetic background. Metaproteome studies uncovered enzyme profiles expressed by biogas community members. Enzymes involved in cellulose and hemicellulose decomposition and utilization of other complex biopolymers were identified. Future studies on biogas functional microbial networks will increasingly involve integrated multi-omics analyses evaluating metagenome, transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome datasets. © 2018, The Author(s)
