    Maßnahmen und Ansatzpunkte zur Verbesserung quantitativer Marktinformationen für den Öko-Markt

    Marktbeteiligte aus Politik, Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft hatten Bedarf an systematisch abrufbaren, geprüften Daten zum Öko-Markt angemeldet. In einer Projekt-Datenbank wurden die verfügbaren europäischen Strukturdaten zum gesamten und ökologischen Landbau ab 2000 zusammengeführt und so miteinander verknüpft, dass jeweils ein konsistenter Datensatz pro Land und Jahr abgerufen werden kann. Zusätzlich werden konkurrierende Angaben in einem Quellenvergleich übersichtlich dargestellt und ermöglichen es, die Datengenauigkeit einzuschätzen. Für Deutschland stehen zudem aggregierte Umsatzdaten zur Verfügung. Der Aufbau aus den einzelnen Quellen erfolgte nach der Methode Multiple Data Integration der Firma fleXinfo. Systematische Koordinaten und Kennzahlen ermöglichen dem User eine flexible Auswahl, Gliederung und Zusammenfassung. Alle Daten können von den projekteigenen Internetseiten www.zmp.de/biodaten herunter geladen werden. Somit existiert erstmals eine zentrale Datenbank, die es allen Interessenten ermöglicht, nach den jeweiligen Fragestellungen Daten für die EU-25 Länder zu recherchieren und geprüfte Ergebnisse zu erhalten, die dem derzeit bestmöglichen Informationsstand entsprechen. Die drei Methoden zur Erhebung der Strukturdaten im deutschen Öko-Landbau (durch Statistisches Bundesamt, BLE und ZMP) wurden miteinander verglichen und auf mögliche Fehlerquellen hin analysiert. Schließlich wurden unterschiedliche Umsatzdaten für den Naturkostfachhandel methodisch überprüft und anhand verschiedener Stichproben verifiziert. Es wurde eine einheitliche Methodik erarbeitet, die künftig als Benchmark für die deutsche Naturkostbranche dienen kann

    Squeezing of electromagnetic field in a cavity by electrons in Trojan states

    The notion of the Trojan state of a Rydberg electron, introduced by I.Bialynicki-Birula, M.Kali\'nski, and J.H.Eberly (Phys. Rev. Lett. 73, 1777 (1994)) is extended to the case of the electromagnetic field quantized in acavity. The shape of the electronic wave packet describing the Trojan state is practically the same as in the previously studied externally driven system. The fluctuations of the quantized electromagnetic field around its classical value exhibit strong squeezing. The emergence of Trojan states in the cylindrically symmetrical system is attributed to spontaneous symmetry braking.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figure

    The New ‘Hidden Abode’: Reflections on Value and Labour in the New Economy

    In a pivotal section of Capital, volume 1, Marx (1976: 279) notes that, in order to understand the capitalist production of value, we must descend into the ‘hidden abode of production’: the site of the labour process conducted within an employment relationship. In this paper we argue that by remaining wedded to an analysis of labour that is confined to the employment relationship, Labour Process Theory (LPT) has missed a fundamental shift in the location of value production in contemporary capitalism. We examine this shift through the work of Autonomist Marxists like Hardt and Negri, Lazaratto and Arvidsson, who offer theoretical leverage to prize open a new ‘hidden abode’ outside employment, for example in the ‘production of organization’ and in consumption. Although they can open up this new ‘hidden abode’, without LPT's fine-grained analysis of control/resistance, indeterminacy and structured antagonism, these theorists risk succumbing to empirically naive claims about the ‘new economy’. Through developing an expanded conception of a ‘new hidden abode’ of production, the paper demarcates an analytical space in which both LPT and Autonomist Marxism can expand and develop their understanding of labour and value production in today's economy. </jats:p

    Proglacial lake expansion and glacier retreat in Arctic Sweden

    Proglacial lakes have increased in number and extent in Arctic Sweden since the 1950s/1960s as glaciers have retreated dramatically. Interrogation of Rapid Eye imagery highlights that some lake terminating glaciers had substantial (>100 m) rates of retreat between 2010 and 2018, with one other land terminating glacier also retreating at a similar rate. However, analysis of a regional remote sensing time series suggests that proglacial lake formation in this period across the area has not been uniform. Despite glacier accumulation areas having similar maximum elevations (∼2,000 m) and similar alpine topography, proglacial lakes in the southern area (Sarek) were found to be significantly smaller than proglacial lakes in the northern area (Kebnekaise), which had smaller glaciers within corries and more prominent terminal moraines. Therefore, it cannot be assumed that proglacial lake formation will occur as glaciers retreat in response to elevated air temperature, particularly as only 33% of glaciers had proglacial lakes in their forefield. Thus, whilst it cannot be assumed that proglacial lakes will accommodate water currently held in glaciers, the 108 lakes mapped here present a substantial area (4.767 ± 0.377 km2) of fresh water that has not previously been included in the Global Lakes and Wetlands Database (GLWD). This inventory therefore provides an important dataset that can be used to underpin our understanding of the role of proglacial lakes within the hydrological system in this area of the Arctic

    Jinn, psychiatry and contested notions of misfortune among East London Bangladeshis

    This study examines understandings of misfortune among east London Bangladeshis, particularly with respect to the role of jinn spirits. It reports on the findings of ethnographic interviews among 40 members of this community. Appeal to jinn explanations is commonplace at times of psychological disturbance and unexplained physical symptoms. Resort to traditional healers is frequent. These explanations are contested by different groups in the community.     Warm proglacial lake temperatures and thermal undercutting enhance rapid retreat of an Arctic glacier

    Determining the characteristics of Arctic proglacial lakes is essential for understanding their current and future influence on glacier mass loss, capacity as a carbon sink and the associated impacts for downstream hydrology and ecology. Field observations of how proglacial lake properties influence rates of glacier mass loss remain sparse yet are increasingly critical for accurate projection of lake-terminating glacier responses to warming air and lake temperatures, particularly in high-latitude Scandinavia under the influence of Arctic amplification. Here we combine satellite and field observations of Kaskasapakte Glacier (KG) (a lake-terminating glacier in Arctic Sweden) to reveal the interplay between lake parameters and glacier mass loss from 2008 to 2019. We present the first field evidence of warmer-than-expected water temperatures (&gt; 4 °C at the ice front) at a Scandinavian proglacial lake and illustrate how these drove rapid thermo-erosional undercutting and calving at the terminus, with width-averaged retreat rates of up to 25 m yr−1 and frontal ablation accounting for ∼ 30 % of glacier volume loss between 2015 and 2019
