Universal Resistances of the Quantum RC circuit
We examine the concept of universal quantized resistance in the AC regime
through the fully coherent quantum RC circuit comprising a cavity (dot)
capacitively coupled to a gate and connected via a single spin-polarized
channel to a reservoir lead. As a result of quantum effects such as the Coulomb
interaction in the cavity and global phase coherence, we show that the charge
relaxation resistance is identical for weak and large transmissions and
it changes from to when the frequency (times ) exceeds
the level spacing of the cavity; is the Planck constant and the
electron charge. For large cavities, we formulate a correspondence between the
charge relaxation resistance and the Korringa-Shiba relation of the
Kondo model. Furthermore, we introduce a general class of models, for which the
charge relaxation resistance is universal. Our results emphasize that the
charge relaxation resistance is a key observable to understand the dynamics of

A model for the dependence of polarized structure functions
We present an update of a phenomenological model for the spin dependent
structure functions of the proton and neutron. This model is based
on a broken SU(6) wavefunction parametrized by the unpolarized structure
functions. The two free parameters of the model are choosen to fulfill the
Bjorken and Ellis--Jaffe sum rules. The model respects isospin symmetry and has
zero strange sea polarization. Using new values for from hyperon beta
decay the resulting dependent asymmetries are in perfect agreement
with the existing data. Therefore we do not see any evidence for a ``spin

Long Term Changes of Water Quality in Latvia
The aim of this study was to analyze long term changes of surface water quality in Latvia, spatial variability of water chemical composition, possible impacts of different pollution sources as well as to analyze the measures to protect national water resources - river basin management. Within this study, the concentrations of major water ingredients and microelements in major rivers and lakes of Latvia have been determined. Metal concentrations in river and lake waters were compared with water chemical composition. The mean concentrations of trace metals in inland waters of Latvia are appreciably lower than the estimated world averages for river waters and close to or lower than background values, unless regional impacts determined by local geochemistry. This may be explained by a comparatively lower level of anthropogenic load. In the same time in several places, direct anthropogenic impacts are evident, regarding influences of point sources both transboundary transport impacts. Also, different processes related to pollution of surface waters in Latvia have been analyzed. At first the analysis of changes and composition of pollutant emissions in Latvia has been realized, and the obtained results were compared with actual composition of atmospheric precipitation and their changes in time
Peat humic acid properties and factors influencing their variability in a temperate bog ecosystem
Aquatic chemistry and humic substances in bog lakes in Latvia
Chemical composition of 19 bog lakes in Latvia has been studied. Peculiarities of chemical composition and their influence on community structure have been analysed as the main factors considering aquatic humic substances (AHS). AHS isolated from bog waters shows principally different elemental, functional and spectral characteristics, and also acidity, from humic substances isolated from other water bodies (eutrophic and mesotrophic) and reference humic samples. The observed differences are due to the dependence of humus properties on biological processes and pollution levels in the water bodies
