Synthesis of New Analogues of the Bengamides to encapsulate in magnetic nanoparticles
The development and identification of new antitumoral has become a research area of great interest and maximum priority due to secondary effects of current antitumoral and the appearance of tumours resistant to these agents. Marine sponges corresponding to the Jaspidae family have proved to be a prolific source of bioactive natural products. Among these, the Bengamides have showed an important biological profile, including antitumor, antibiotic and anthelmintic properties. Due to the interest of theses natural products, we describe a study directed towards the total synthesis of this class of compounds. Then we encapsulate Bengamides in temperature sensitive microgels with a magnetic core. Magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O 4) were prepared by coprecipitation method and the surface was functionalized by acrylic acid. Polymer poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) were grown by free radical polymerization in presence of cross-liker and initiator.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tec
Thermorresponsive magnetic nanoparticles as target drug delivery for cancer treatment
In this research, temperature sensitive microgels with magnetic core for controlled release of 5-fluoruracil was synthesized. Magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4) were prepared by coprecipitation method and the surface was functionalized by acrylic acid. Polymer poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) were grown by free radical polymerization in presence of cross-liker and initiator. The size of the polymer was manipulated by changing the mole percent of the crosslinker and evaluated for their morphology (TEM), particle size, zeta potential, loading efficiency, drug content and drug release. Furthermore, microgels were tagged with FITC, a fluorochrome which could be applied for cell imaging. Cytotoxicity studies revealed that the microgels were not toxic. These complex nanoparticles (Fe3O4/pNIPAM/FITC/5-Fu) appear to be a great promise to be used in controlled drug delivery and tumor targeting.Universidad de Málaga. 2M1155-79 (= T Cha B): A Low-mass, Wide-separation Companion to the Nearby, "Old" T Tauri Star T Cha
The early-K star T Cha, a member of the relatively nearby (D ~ 100 pc)
epsilon Cha Association, is a relatively "old" (age ~7 Myr) T Tauri star that
is still sporadically accreting from an orbiting disk whose inner regions are
evidently now being cleared by a close, substellar companion. We report the
identification, via analysis of proper motions, serendipitous X-ray imaging
spectroscopy, and followup optical spectroscopy, of a new member of the epsilon
Cha Association that is very likely a low-mass companion to T Cha at a
projected separation of ~38 kAU. The combined X-ray and optical spectroscopy
data indicate that the companion, T Cha B (= 2M1155-79), is a weak-lined T
Tauri star (wTTS) of spectral type M3 and age ~<10 Myr. The serendipitous X-ray
(XMM-Newton) observation of T Cha B, which targeted T Cha, also yields
serendipitous detections of two background wTTS in the Chamaeleon cloud
complex, including one newly discovered, low-mass member of the Cha cloud
pre-MS population. T Cha becomes the third prominent example of a nearby, "old"
yet still actively accreting, K-type pre-MS star/disk system (the others being
TW Hya and V4046 Sgr) to feature a low-mass companion at very large (12-40 kAU)
separation, suggesting that such wide-separation companions may affect the
conditions and timescales for planet formation around solar-mass stars.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures; to appear in The Astrophys. J. (Letters
Comparing the implementation of team approaches for improving diabetes care in community health centers
Background: Patient panel management and community-based care management may be viable strategies for community health centers to improve the quality of diabetes care for vulnerable patient populations. The objective of our study was to clarify implementation processes and experiences of integrating office-based medical assistant (MA) panel management and community health worker (CHW) community-based management into routine care for diabetic patients. Methods: Mixed methods study with interviews and surveys of clinicians and staff participating in a study comparing the effectiveness of MA and CHW health coaching for improving diabetes care. Participants included 24 key informants in five role categories and 249 clinicians and staff survey respondents from 14 participating practices. We conducted thematic analyses of key informant interview transcripts to clarify implementation processes and describe barriers to integrating the new roles into practice. We surveyed clinicians and staff to assess differences in practice culture among intervention and control groups. We triangulated findings to identify concordant and disparate results across data sources. Results: Implementation processes and experiences varied considerably among the practices implementing CHW and MA team-based approaches, resulting in differences in the organization of health coaching and self-management support activities. Importantly, CHW and MA responsibilities converged over time to focus on health coaching of diabetic patients. MA health coaches experienced difficulty in allocating dedicated time due to other MA responsibilities that often crowded out time for diabetic patient health coaching. Time constraints also limited the personal introduction of patients to health coaches by clinicians. Participants highlighted the importance of a supportive team climate and proactive leadership as important enablers for MAs and CHWs to implement their health coaching responsibilities and also promoted professional growth. Conclusion: Implementation of team-based strategies to improve diabetes care for vulnerable populations was diverse, however all practices converged in their foci on health coaching roles of CHWs and MAs. Our study suggests that a flexible approach to implementing health coaching is more important than fidelity to rigid models that do not allow for variable allocation of responsibilities across team members. Clinicians play an instrumental role in supporting health coaches to grow into their new patient care responsibilities
Intracluster stars in the Virgo cluster core
We have investigated the properties of the diffuse light in the Virgo cluster
core region, based on the detection of intracluster planetary nebulae (PNe) in
four fields. We eliminate the bias from misclassified faint continuum objects,
using improved Monte Carlo simulations, and the contaminations by high redshift
Ly galaxies, using the Ly luminosity function in blank fields.
Recent spectroscopic observations confirm that our photometric PN samples are
well-understood. We find that the diffuse stellar population in the Virgo core
region is inhomogeneous on scales of 30'-90': there exist significant
field-to-field variations in the number density of PNe and the inferred amount
of intracluster light, with some empty fields, some fields dominated by
extended Virgo galaxy halos, and some fields dominated by the true intracluster
component. There is no clear trend with distance from M87. The mean surface
luminosity density, its rms variation, and the mean surface brightness of
diffuse light in our 4 fields are L
arcmin, L arcmin, and
mag arcsec respectively. Our results indicate that
the Virgo cluster is a dynamically young environment, and that the intracluster
component is associated at least partially with local physical processes like
galaxy interactions or harassment. We also argue, based on kinematic evidence,
that the so-called 'over-luminous' PNe in the halo of M84 are dynamically
associated with this galaxy, and must thus be brighter than and part of a
different stellar population from the normal PN population in elliptical
galaxies.Comment: 31 pages, 6 figure. In press on the Astronomical Journa
Aeronautical Metadata Profile based on Geographic International Standards
The aeronautical information plays an essential rolein air safety, chief objective of the aeronautical industry. Community policies and projects are being currently developed for the adequate management of a single European air space. To make this possible, an appropriate information management and a set of tools that allow sharing and exchanging this information, ensuring its interoperability and integrity, are necessary.
This paper presents the development and implementation of a metadata profile for description of the aeronautical information based on international regulations and recommendations applied within the geographic scope. The elements taken into account for its development are described, as well as the implementation process and the results obtained
This work introduces some of the most relevant elements that make up the current territorial notions and practices of the mbyá, in an attempt to show that the uses and ways of land occupation exceed the hegemonic definitions of territory. The basis is an ethnographic analysis that considers individual cases of communities or tekoa mbyá, located in the Caazapá and Itapúa departments in Paraguay, with which we have conducted a territorial survey. In a context of radical transformation of the territories, given the agribusiness advancement, the mbyá develop their own ways of social, economical, political and religious life, also reconfiguring territorial notions and practices in relation to the surrounding society. The mbyá frameworks are constantly redefined in the relationships they hold among their communities and with the jurua (non-indigenous), and other beings in the environment. Fil: Rodriguez Alcala Escobar, Carolina. Isolation and analysis of phospholipids in dairy foods
The lipid fraction of milk is one of the most complex matrixes in foodstuffs due to the presence of a high number of moieties with
different physical and chemical properties. Glycerolipids include glycerol and two fatty acids esterified in positions sn-1 and sn-2
with higher concentration of unsaturated fatty acids than in the triglyceride fraction of milk. Sphingolipids consist of a sphingoid
base linked to a fatty acid across an amide bond.Their amphiphilic nature makes them suitable to be added into a variety of foods
and recent investigations showthat phospholipids, mainly phosphatidylserine and sphingomyelin, can exert antimicrobial, antiviral,
and anticancer activities as well as positive effects in Alzheimer’s disease, stress, and memory decline. Polar lipids can be found as
natural constituents in the membranes of all living organisms with soybean and eggs as the principal industrial sources, yet they
have low contents in phosphatidylserine and sphingomyelin. Animal products are rich sources of these compounds but since there
are legal restrictions to avoid transmission of prions, milk and dairy products are gaining interest as alternative sources. This review
summarizes the analysis of polar lipids in dairy products including sample preparation (extraction and fractionation/isolation) and
analysis by GC or HPLC and the latest research works using ELSD, CAD, and MS detectors.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Financial Development and Economic Activity in Advanced and Developing Open Economies: Evidence from Panel Cointegration.
YesThis study considers the effects of financial development on output in a panel cointegration framework, focusing on the implications of trade and financial openness. Our analysis indicates that after controlling for cross-sectional dependence, the typical relationship between finance and output does not hold in the long run. This relationship, however, is re-established once we account for economic openness. While trade openness emerges as more important for developing countries, financial openness is more important for advanced economies. In the long run, causality runs from financial development to output in the advanced economies, while in developing economies causality is bidirectional. There is no short-run causality between financial development and output, however
