    Lifespan associations of resting-state brain functional networks with ADHD symptoms

    Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is increasingly being diagnosed in both children and adults, but the neural mechanisms that underlie its distinct symptoms and whether children and adults share the same mechanism remain poorly understood. Here, we used a nested-spectral partition (NSP) approach to study the resting-state brain functional networks of ADHD patients (n=97) and healthy controls (HCs, n=97) across the lifespan (7-50 years). Compared to the linear lifespan associations of brain functional segregation and integration with age in HCs, ADHD patients have a quadratic association in the whole brain and in most functional systems, whereas the limbic system dominantly affected by ADHD has a linear association. Furthermore, the limbic system better predicts hyperactivity, and the salient attention system better predicts inattention. These predictions are shared in children and adults with ADHD. Our findings reveal a lifespan association of brain networks with ADHD symptoms and provide potential shared neural bases of distinct ADHD symptoms in children and adults.Comment: 28 pages, 4 figure

    Weekly induction intraperitoneal chemotherapy after primary surgical cytoreduction in patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer

    BACKGROUND: Traditional intraperitoneal (IP) therapy administered simultaneously with intravenous (IV) chemotherapy in the primary setting has been well documented. This retrospective study was conducted to investigate the role of weekly IP therapy as an inducing intervention before front-line IV chemotherapy, particularly in patients with bulky residual disease after surgery. METHODS: A total of 426 patients with advanced ovarian cancer treated between 1990 and 1999, were reviewed. Follow-up data were available in 409 patients. Of whom, 230 patients received postoperative weekly IP therapy with a median cycles of 4, other 179 patients who did not receive any IP therapy were used as the control group. RESULTS: The median age of the patients was 51 years (range, 20–77 years). One hundred eighty-nine patients with stage III disease and 41 patients with stage IV disease were treated with postoperative IP therapy, respectively. Complications and toxicity were observed in 68 patients (29.5%), but there were no grade 4 toxicities and no patients died of complications or toxicities. In patients with residual disease > 1 cm, the median survival of those with IP delivery of chemotherapy and those without was 21.6 months and 18.8 months, respectively (hazard ratio [HR]= 0.69, P = 0.02). Whereas, in patients with residual disease ≤ 1 cm, the median survival was 46.8 months and 37.6 months, respectively (HR= 0.73, P = 0.09). Multivariate analysis suggested that the factors age ≤ 60 years, stage III, IP therapy and paclitaxel as front-line chemotherapy were associated with a better prognosis for patients with advanced ovarian cancer. CONCLUSION: Weekly postoperative IP therapy as an inducing intervention is practical for both physicians and patients with acceptable complications and associated with a lengthened survival of patients with advanced ovarian cancer. Whether this arm can be used in lieu of a traditional one needs further randomized trial to confirm the preliminary results

    Measurements of the observed cross sections for exclusive light hadron production in e^+e^- annihilation at \sqrt{s}= 3.773 and 3.650 GeV

    By analyzing the data sets of 17.3 pb1^{-1} taken at s=3.773\sqrt{s}=3.773 GeV and 6.5 pb1^{-1} taken at s=3.650\sqrt{s}=3.650 GeV with the BESII detector at the BEPC collider, we have measured the observed cross sections for 12 exclusive light hadron final states produced in e+ee^+e^- annihilation at the two energy points. We have also set the upper limits on the observed cross sections and the branching fractions for ψ(3770)\psi(3770) decay to these final states at 90% C.L.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figur

    The σ\sigma pole in J/ψωπ+πJ/\psi \to \omega \pi^+ \pi^-

    Using a sample of 58 million J/ψJ/\psi events recorded in the BESII detector, the decay J/ψωπ+πJ/\psi \to \omega \pi^+ \pi^- is studied. There are conspicuous ωf2(1270)\omega f_2(1270) and b1(1235)πb_1(1235)\pi signals. At low ππ\pi \pi mass, a large broad peak due to the σ\sigma is observed, and its pole position is determined to be (541±39)(541 \pm 39) - ii (252±42)(252 \pm 42) MeV from the mean of six analyses.     Direct Measurements of Absolute Branching Fractions for D0 and D+ Inclusive Semimuonic Decays

    By analyzing about 33 pb1\rm pb^{-1} data sample collected at and around 3.773 GeV with the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider, we directly measure the branching fractions for the neutral and charged DD inclusive semimuonic decays to be BF(D0μ+X)=(6.8±1.5±0.7)BF(D^0 \to \mu^+ X) =(6.8\pm 1.5\pm 0.7)% and BF(D+μ+X)=(17.6±2.7±1.8)BF(D^+ \to \mu^+ X) =(17.6 \pm 2.7 \pm 1.8)%, and determine the ratio of the two branching fractions to be BF(D+μ+X)BF(D0μ+X)=2.59±0.70±0.25\frac{BF(D^+ \to \mu^+ X)}{BF(D^0 \to \mu^+ X)}=2.59\pm 0.70 \pm 0.25

    Based on 5.8x10^7 J/psi events detected in BESII, the branching fractions of J/psi--> phi eta and phi eta^prime are measured for different eta and eta^prime decay modes.     Measurements of J/ψJ/\psi and ψ(2S)\psi(2S) decays into ΛΛˉπ0\Lambda \bar{\Lambda}\pi^0 and ΛΛˉη\Lambda \bar{\Lambda}\eta

    Using 58 million J/ψJ/\psi and 14 million ψ(2S)\psi(2S) events collected by the BESII detector at the BEPC, branching fractions or upper limits for the decays J/ψJ/\psi and ψ(2S)ΛΛˉπ0\psi(2S) \to \Lambda \bar{\Lambda}\pi^0 and ΛΛˉη\Lambda \bar{\Lambda}\eta are measured. For the isospin violating decays, the upper limits are determined to be B(J/ψΛΛˉπ0)<6.4×105{\cal B}(J/\psi \to \Lambda \bar{\Lambda}\pi^0)<6.4\times 10^{-5} and B(ψ(2S)ΛΛˉπ0)<4.9×105{\cal B}(\psi(2S) \to \Lambda \bar{\Lambda}\pi^0)<4.9\times 10^{-5} at the 90% confidence level. The isospin conserving process J/ψΛΛˉηJ/\psi \to \Lambda \bar{\Lambda}\eta is observed for the first time, and its branching fraction is measured to be B(J/ψΛΛˉη)=(2.62±0.60±0.44)×104{\cal B}(J/\psi \to \Lambda \bar{\Lambda}\eta)=(2.62\pm 0.60\pm 0.44)\times 10^{-4}, where the first error is statistical and the second one is systematic. No ΛΛˉη\Lambda \bar{\Lambda}\eta signal is observed in ψ(2S)\psi(2S) decays, and B(ψ(2S)ΛΛˉη)<1.2×104{\cal B}(\psi(2S) \to \Lambda \bar{\Lambda}\eta)<1.2\times 10^{-4} is set at the 90% confidence level. Branching fractions of J/ψJ/\psi decays into Σ+πbarΛ\Sigma^+ \pi^- bar{\Lambda} and Σˉπ+Λ\bar{\Sigma}^- \pi^+ \Lambda are also reported, and the sum of these branching fractions is determined to be B(J/ψΣ+πΛˉ+c.c.)=(1.52±0.08±0.16)×103{\cal B}(J/\psi \to \Sigma^+\pi^- \bar{\Lambda} + c.c.)=(1.52\pm 0.08\pm 0.16)\times 10^{-3}.Comment: 7 pages, 10 figures.     Measurement of the branching fractions of psi(2S) -> 3(pi+pi-) and J/psi -> 2(pi+pi-)

    Using data samples collected at sqrt(s) = 3.686GeV and 3.650GeV by the BESII detector at the BEPC, the branching fraction of psi(2S) -> 3(pi+pi-) is measured to be [4.83 +- 0.38(stat) +- 0.69(syst)] x 10^-4, and the relative branching fraction of J/psi -> 2(pi+pi-) to that of J/psi -> mu+mu- is measured to be [5.86 +- 0.19(stat) +- 0.39(syst)]% via psi(2S) -> (pi+pi-)J/psi, J/psi -> 2(pi+pi-). The electromagnetic form factor of 3(pi+pi-) is determined to be 0.21 +- 0.02 and 0.20 +- 0.01 at sqrt(s) = 3.686GeV and 3.650GeV, respectively.Comment: 17pages, 7 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.

    First observation of ψ(2S)pnˉπ+c.c.\psi(2S) \to p \bar{n} \pi^- +c.c.

    Using 14 million ψ(2S)\psi(2S) events collected with the Beijing Spectrometer (BESII) at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider, the branching fractions of ψ(2S)\psi(2S) decays to pnˉπp \bar{n} \pi^- and pˉnπ+\bar{p} n \pi^+ and the branching fractions of the main background channels ψ(2S)pnˉππ0\psi(2S) \to p \bar{n} \pi^-\pi^0, ψ(2S)γχc0γpnˉπ\psi(2S) \to \gamma\chi_{c0} \to \gamma p \bar{n} \pi^-, ψ(2S)γχc2γpnˉπ\psi(2S) \to \gamma\chi_{c2} \to \gamma p \bar{n} \pi^-, and ψ(2S)γχcJγpnˉππ0\psi(2S) \to \gamma \chi_{cJ} \to \gamma p \bar{n} \pi^- \pi^0 are determined.
